  1. Great job...but please put a life jacket on your son.
  2. I used to take the kids there all the time for bream until the place got cleaned out. Too bad because it is only 5 min from the house. There used to be alot of large catfish, but they were also mostly harvested. I know what you mean about the bass, you can see plenty cruising around. Tough to catch with the clear water.
  3. Have you guys been changing out the stock hooks? That was my only problem with this bait was I was losing fish. Switched out the hooks to excaliber rotating trebles and have been having much better success.
  4. I am right handed but only fish with left handed reels. I like this set up much better because I don't have to switch hands with the rod after the cast. Pick what is comfortable to you.
  5. The BPS crankin stick is on sale for $39.99 online. I think that i am going to pick up a 7' med for my jerkbaits.
  6. Bama I purchased a used Xpress H51 about a month ago and have nothing but great things to say about it. The hyper lift hulls provide a great ride even in choppy water. It is a very dry ride. Good luck with your search.
  7. I have looked at some of these models around $200 and it seems like the 565 is the best bet. I am going to BPS tonight to check one out. BTW they have a $20 off sale going on now in the stores, it is not online.
  8. We hit the St Johns on Saturday am from the 44 ramp. Headed north and fished some of the cuts off of the river had a couple of hits early on the frog and fluke. Had a fish come completly out of the water for a frog but missed. Switch over to the pointer and promptly caught a gar. Continued fishing the pointer and almost lost it to a 12-15 lb gar. Needless to say I put the $15 bait away after that one. Bite was slow with a pickeral coming off of a spinnerbait. I was just a mudfish away from the freshwater trash fish slam. The bass bite picked up later in the day as some cloud cover moved in. Picked up a few fish with the frog out of the pads and one on a jerkbait. Ended up with 4 bass, with two more coming unbuttoned wrapped up in the pads. Lots of boats out flipping the pads/mats. Anyone been out there lately?
  9. I have only fished the lake once. The only keeper bass that I caught was out of a cove, which is right from the canal to the ramp. Caught on a horney toad. I caught several fish and missed another keeper on the shore line directly accrss from the ramp. Those were on a t-rigged worm. This was almost a year ago and the water was pretty nasty. Looked like there was a big algee bloom. Sorry I couldn't offer any more recent info. I would like to make another trip so let us know how you do.
  10. I am looking to buy a new fish finder and have narrowed it down between the Humminbird 565 and the Lowrance X96. BPS has a $20 off sale on the Humminbird running this upcoming week. Just wanted to see who has used these models and what kind of experience you have had. Both seem to have good reviews on the BPS website. Also does anyone who if the Lowrance has the capability for a speed sensor? Thanks in advance.
  11. Check out craigslist there are some good deals to be had on there. Also they have local listings.
  12. Sorry to hear about your loss. It is great to see that you are continuing the cycle by passing on to your kids what you received from your grandpa. They will remember it for years to come and hopefully pass it down to a future generation.
  13. I wish my lovely wife would have let me fish TWICE on Mother's Day weekend, you are a lucky man. I did manage a brief trip to BPS though.
  14. Great story...that fish is a stud.
  15. Great job on those beautiful hawgs.
  16. Welcome to BR
  17. What a tease!!!!
  18. Try to search for a water atlas for your county. I know that they are available for Seminole and Lake counties. The water atlas has water quality info and also topo maps. BTW where is eagle lake?
  19. Well guys I just purchased a 1998 Xpress H51 w/ a 70HP Evinrude. This boat is great, I have been looking to upgrade for some time now and finally found the right one. I have been fishing from a 16' flat aluminum boat with a 25hp. These 2 boats are night and day. I was able to get it out for a trial run with my son. He caught his first bass on an artifical w/o and help. Not too bad for a test drive.
  20. Welcome to BR
