If I remember correctly the bass will follow the shad, so staying after they leave maybe a waste of time. I'm not sure how hard it would be to follow the shad but if you could the bass should be there. I love lakes with shad... Hope this helps..... Alfred

I don't know if its the garlic "smell" or if its the oils that are released. I think they do mask our odor and allows the bass to hold on the bait a bit longer. I hardly ever use the stuff, not sure if makes that much of a difference. My 2cents... Alfred

A buddy of mine that was at Ft Hood with me, he and I would fish anytime and anywhere. Then there was another fishing buddy from Hood, hes in Germany now, needs to get back so we can go fishing. We would fish every weekend. If he lived closer we would still be doing that. Now its my kids, my oldest son, 7 this Saturday, is really getting into bass fishing. He got "hooked" on using lizards this past summer, he likes lizards and is getting one as a pet for his b-day. My other two are slowly coming around to fishing. They tend to get bored quick. Alfred

Try the weedless frog or rat baits. They should work well for ya. Alfred

i would start out fishing as far back from the shore as you can when in a boat.......if the need arises then move inward. when bank fishing i tend to fish closure to shore, casting in a fan from left to right or right to left....only after all visible cover has been fished. hope this helps, Alfred

you do lose alot of meat when you fillet most fish, bass being one of them. the next time just clean it and not fillet it, this will save alot of meat, just make sure you mind the bones.............. Hope this helps, Alfred

The problem you are going to run into with ponds is that they can and do get over populated very quick. I was reading an article that stated you should take 10 - 15 lbs of bass out of a pond/lake a year to insure they don't get over popluated. Cull out the smaller fish and in a year or more you will have some quality fish in the pond. Hope this helps, Alfred

There HAS to be a certin amount of bass taken out of ANY lake to insure there will be larger bass and not just a large amount of bass. In taking the bass you keep the lake from being over populated. This is the same lines you HAVE to follow with bluegil and just about any other fish. If there are too many of any one fish in a lake/pond then there are no size to the fish. We MUST to a certin degree keep the population of fish in check to insure we have a larger size of fish. Alfred

I've fished with different people at different levels of fishing ability, either bass or bait/bank or boat, and here is what I would say are important: 1.Equipment - Line -Rod/Reel -Right Knots 2.Knowing where the fish are -knowing what stucture bass and other fish live around is important in catching fish and not just fishing 3.The right time of day - Fishing the right time of day will help you catch fish and not just fish 4.The right lure or live bait - The right lure or live bait can and will make a difference in catching and just fishing 5.Hook set - Not setting the hook when you feel a strike only makes you mad (my 6year old found that out quick while fishing lizards) To me anyone can go fishing all day any day and still not CATCH fish. You can have the best and most expensive equipment but still not catch anything if you don't know where the fish live. You can fish in the hotest part of the day and only get sun burned and yet not catch any fish. If you are using the right lure at the wrong time of the day, again you will not be catching, just fishing. You can have the next World Record bass on the line but if the hook set was not a good one then its only a fish tale. I guess you can say that I'm a, "Stick to the Basics" kind of guy. If you have ever had to teach someone how to fish then there is a big difference in what CATCHING fish involves. Teach a kid to fish and YOU will learn how to fish all over again. Alfred

For me I would have to say plastics. I'm not strong with using them, I know why they should be used but its a patiences issue more then anything else. And for me I tend to go with what I've caught fish on in the past, the ole reliable baits. Alfred

Personally I think the bass are going to hit a bait that appears to them as being injured. The slow moving bait does that. And it gives them more time to bite. My 2cents.... Alfred

LBH, I have a 14' 3 seat jon and was wanting to add a live well, do you think it would work. I was thinking of using the middle seat for the live well. I love to fish them weightless. The last big bass I caught was on a weight less Cherry Seed color fished around a downed tree (5lbs). I would try them weightless, swimming around downed trees and trough/over grass. I have found that the falling of the lizard in a pause looks natural and the bass respond by inhaling the lizard. Hookhead, I've used and continue to use live bluegil from time to time and they will catch bass if there are bass in the pond. The way I rig them is to have them weightless without a bobber. I hook the bluegill in the lips, usally starting in the nose hole going trough the bottom lip, this method keeps your hook from pullin out. You can allow the fish to swim free but I've found that the bass around here hit them fast and hard when the bluegil are fished distressed and erratic around cover or structure. And size does matter, try to keep them bewteen 2 and 4 ins and make sure its legal in your state to use them. Hope this helps.... Alfred
