  1. Had some luck last year with Dr. Juice's Super Juice for Tournament Bass, never used much other stinkbait, but need to pick up some for this year since mine froze in the garage over winter, then seperated
  2. Thanks for the help, I'm looking forward to giving these a try. I'll have to try them t-rigged too
  3. Just picked up a pack of zoom brush hogs to use as trailers on my jigs. Will these work well? Anyone had success with this in the past?
  4. I have had most success with Watermelon Red Flake, Black/Blue, and some darker purple shades. Some success with pumpkin and plain Watermelon
  5. I like the scum frog in green flake. Works well in most pads on the lakes here in Wisconsin
  6. In response to carrying extra reels. I only have one baitcasting rod and 2 or 3 spinning rods. I don't have a lot of tackle just one Plano 777 full (going to be going to Cabela's next week to stock it yet again). In the past, I've recieved good reviews from my actions fishing with others. I always try to be polite and I hope the angler I am with has good advice for me. I always want to learn new tactics. I believe I will know who I am boating with before hand, so I hope to be able to give him a call and maybe head out to a lake with him the weekend before or something in order to figure out each other's strong points.
  7. At the end of April I will be fishing my first tournament. I'm excited, but also realize that I could use a lot of advice from guys who have fished them before. It's not a high pressure tournament (it is put on by my collegiate bass club), but I do want to enjoy myself and have a shot at winning . It will be on a lake in Central Iowa and since most of the guys in the club don't have boats, I will be teamed with an angler with a boat before the launch. Any advice for this tourny newbie? Sincerely Justin
  8. Also, the lake for the tournament has not been decided on yet. but will be somewhere near/in Central Iowa
  9. Thanks for all the help guys. This is the first tournament I am going to be entering in after getting pretty aggressive on the bass fishing for roughly three years now. Definitely all the help I can get to win due to inexperience. But hey, I have to start somewhere
  10. Just don't buy Senkos. I have found that anything that looks like a Senko and is similar in shape catches fish just as well. Don't get caught up in the big name stuff
  11. I'll have to try what they were using
  12. Hey all, I need some advice again. I will be fishing a tournament at the end of April in Iowa (Pre-spawn) and I am looking to add a couple more spinnerbaits to my arsenal. What are some good colors sizes and blade choices? I've never had much success with spinnerbaits in the past, but I don't throw them that often and one of my goals this summer is to learn to fish these properly. Also, any other good prespawn bait ideas would be helpful. Thanks, Justin
  13. Thanks for the help
  14. Does anyone here know any good lakes within an hour's drive of Marshaltown, IA? A club I'm in is looking to set up a tournament on a lake and we could use some ideas.
  15. I'm a fan of Spider wire, used power pro and fireline also. I liked the power pro but i bought the wrong color (red- what was I thinking). Fireline didn't work well with how I like to fish - hard casting and knots didn't hold well
  16. I'll have to check that out thanks
  17. Hey all, Just want to know if any of you have tried this in the past. I love fishing with spoons and have decided that it might be cheaper to create my own custom spoons instead of paying 5-15 dollars each time i need a new one. Here's my idea: Go to goodwill or Salvation Army and purchase some old silverware spoons. Buy some enamel paints. Cut round spoon end off, drill a couple of holes, paint, add a treble hook and presto new bait. Has anyone done this in the past and if so, what kind of paints should I purchase and what kind of treble hook would you recommend.
  18. I've used the suffix siege on my spinning reels before and really like it. I'm not familiar with Yo Zuri Hybrid line though. What is it/
  19. Thanks for the help. Unfortunately it's going to be a while before I get get a flippin' rod for jigs or frogs, so I have to make do with I have. I'll just continue to throw the frog with what i currently use then. What Pound mono would be good for the baitcaster? I was thinking 12lb abrasion resistant line (Berkley Trilene XT?)
  20. thanks did not know that. I've had success in the past throwing some topwaters on braid with spinning gear. I will probably just put braid on my baitcaster and switch my spinning gear over to flourocarbon and mono
  21. Hey all, I recently received a Abu Garcia Ambassador baitcaster (my first baitcaster) and a 6'6 medium heavy rod to put it on. My question is: What kind of line should I put on this set up? I will be fishing mostly crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and topwater with it including frogs (need to be able to rip through a lot of lilypads and weeds with those). I was thinking something like 17-20 pound Siege Braid or some sort of Flourocarbon (but I have no experience with flourocarbon line). Any help and tips are appreciated. Thanks.
  22. For Christmas this year I recieved a 2 piece 6'6 medium heaving Cabela's Series IM6 casting rod with a Abu garcia ambassador reel. Have yet to try it out, but the rod seems pretty stiff and high quality for relatively low cost. By the way, if anyone has a suggestion for what kind of line to spool my ambassador real with, I'd open to those. I will mostly be throwing topwaters, crankbaits and spinnerbaits with it. Thanks, Justin
  23. Bass Season doesn't open until the first Saturday in May throughout most of Wisconsin. Go to your local sporting goods store or DNR station - they should have the Wisconsin regulations for 2009 already. However, Pan fishing (bluegills, crappie, perch) is open all year round.
  24. Living in the Midwest here I've got crazy cabin fever right now. I just want to get out there and throw a couple of lines in the water, but fishing season in Wisconsin isn't legal until the first Saturday in May . When I get out of school I am definitely going to be moving someplace where fishing is possible all year. Sorry for the rant, but I just really want to fish. I am hopelessly addicted.
