  1. For the price, i think they are awesome. I have a couple and catch a lot of bass twitching it across pads. Fish it real slow and twitch to get the pads moving. Just be sure to wait a second or to after the strike, unless you want two sharp hooks flying at you. Overall, good baits, but tear up a bit fast.
  2. Anyone use these? I was thinking about picking some up as jig trailers and for t-rigging. Thanks for the help in advance.
  3. Try the Abu Garcia Cardinal combo. Had one of these and loved it. Still use the reel, but got a better rod for it since I broke the tip of mine. Great spinning combo that has served me well.
  4. Went to Bass pro yesterday for the Spring Classic sale. Picked up some X-rap Shads, a couple Smithwick suspending rogues and a BPS extreme Crank kit. Can't wait for Ice out to try these things out.
  5. Carbon Fiber and Graphite are not the same material. They are both composites, that's true, but the strength to weight ratios and tensile strengths are greatly different. Carbon Fiber has the tensile strength (almost) of steel. Graphite is heavier and and has a lower (yet still high) tensile breaking point.
  6. I don't really care for the Black Max either, it was my first baitcaster and came with a free Cabelas IM6 rod. I will try the tuning, but if that doesn't work, I want to buy to a Shimano Citica, heard nothing bad about these.
  7. Hey all, I have a an Abu Garcia Black max baitcaster and was wondering what kind of line works best on this reel and also if there is anything I can do to improve it's performance.
  8. Those are awesome. I wish I could paint baits like that.
  9. I just got my first T-1 for Christmas, 1/2 oz white double willow. Can't wait to try it out, but up here the lakes all have this hard white stuff on them that won't let a bait through no matter how heavy it is. ;D
  10. something that wiggles just a bit is great for largemouths through the ice. I agree that a drop shot rig would be perfect, even though I have not yet tried this myself. Also, try a kastmaster spoon in the ice fishing sizes. I know those work for walleye and I don't see any reason bass would shy away from them.
  11. Thanks for all the advice. Sounds like I'll be putting Flouro on my spinning gear and the CXX on my baitcaster for those cranks and spinners. Appreciate all the help I get on this website
  12. I was going to put some on a casting rod and some on a spinning rod, but I'm thinking flouro on my spinning outfit for plastics.
  13. Just wondering if P-line is good for jerkbait and spinnerbait fishing. Looking for high abrasion resistance, but still high strength
  14. I have fished frogs through Lily pads in Southeast Wisconsin for a few years now with spinning gear. A heavier rod and my spidercast reel with 30 or 40lb braid seems to do the trick quite nicely
  15. I will usually texas rig a plastic until it gets chewed up a bit or the bite slows down. Then i rescent the used plastic and put it on a wacky rig for a different presentation and usually a couple more strikes. Has helped me get a bit more life out my plastics
  16. Not complaining here, just commenting that I got the itch to buy something on impulse and acted on it. I guess some people shop for clothes to relieve stress, the members here on bass resource buy dangerous looking hooks and nasty smelling plastics to do the same thing.
  17. If you're fairly north in that area I hear that the St. Croix River is pretty awesome for catching smallies.
  18. Just ordered a new Team Daiwa Tierra 2500 spinning reel and a Team Daiwa light and tough 7' M Fast rod to go with it. Monkey sucked about $150 out of me. He may get more coming up though since I obviously could use some new tackle to go with that awesome rig. Good news is I got a deal on the combo and I need it in a tournament since my college's club is now sponsored by Daiwa and it is the best rod and reel I have purchased to date. Bad news is I have live on ramen noodles and protein shakes for about 2 weeks.
  19. Thanks for the tips, that's kind of what I was thinking. To the member who said I'm a hard head for using only one kind, not true. Still a fairly young angler (20years old) I didn't even know what baitcaster was until 2 years ago. I was raised on spinning so that's what I know best. I do not have the monetary capability to own 23 different rigs for whatever lures. Kind of wish I did but I'll have to stick to my measly five rods.
  20. I think this has been asked before, but I didn't see anything in the search so here goes: How many of you use mostly baitcasting or mostly spinning? I feel like I am in the minority here as I primarily fish with spinning equipment and have never had a problem throwing anything. The reason I bring this up is because I am fishing a tournament in spring and have a chance and getting a nice rig for an inexpensive cost. My theory is that since the tournament is so close, I should get a really nice spinning set up so I can fish with what I know really well, rather than trying to learn a new baitcaster. I have one baitcaster but am not very good with it yet. Anyone else think this is the right approach?
  21. Dang bait monkey...has me purchasing a new rod and reel here soon (actually need this one for a tourny though). He wants me to purchase more rapalas and bagley cranks too though. Make the evil monkey go away
  22. I recently took up ice fishing, while not a cure-all to cabin fever, and not quite as exciting (or warm) as open water fishing, it's fun trying to wrangle even 2lb largemouths through a hole in the ice with and ultra lite rod thats only 2 ft long
  23. I hope you picked up some husky jerks too. I didn't spot one in the picture. It would be a shame to order from rapala without picking up some huskies.
  24. But if I tell you where to go, then where am i supposed to fish? Try some of the lakes tucked away in the national and state forests throughout wisconsin if you could drag a canoe or kayak to them, they would probably be good producers
  25. Yesterday, I went Ice fishing for the first time. Didn't think it could be so much fun. Overall our group caught about 15 nice bluegill and quite a few bass, even a 3lb catfish. Personally, I caught a bluegill and a few bass. My fishing season no longer ends when the water gets hard.
