  1. My guess is a fouled plug or a weak and collapsed fuel line. Or perhaps the throttle linkage slipped at the motor.
  2. I've also had the Berkley SS304 guides groove on at least 2 different rods, both at the tip.
  3. Anybody know the weight of this reel?
  4. Buy a boat. Wear a life jacket, go fishing. Does she let you go fishing off shore without learning to swim? A non-swimming boater wearing a life jacket is safer than a non swimmer fishing on a river bank without a life jacket. At least in the area I live, I can think of more shore fisherman drowning after slipping into river currents than guys who fall out of their boats.
  5. I also found the hook-up rate comparable to a hollow body frog. Up here in the northern parts the pike eat um like candy, especially when your bass fishing. They will cast a mile, however casting farther than a reasonable hook-set and retrieval is seldom good.
  6. I 100% agree with Francho, Get the hook out.I keep an 8" bolt cutter in the boat. Often times you can cut the point off the hook and then back it out. The bolt cutter is also used if one is hooked in the eye or thru a gill plate. Most of the time the hook can be taken out using the "thru the gill" method. 20 years ago hooks rusted and fell out. Modern hooks have better steel and much better plating. They don't rust.
  7. Use a Jig a with a pointed head(more weedless), 1/4 oz.(slower fall) fish it very slow (let it set 10 seconds or so after it hits bottom, then only move it a inch or so).
  8. I've also been there. In addition to the good info others have given you, GET a forearm band type support. Get one that is adjustable and has a pressure patch. Mine is an ACE brand, there are many good ones. Wear it 24/7 for the first few weeks. It will start helping the first day. Use heat on your elbow in the morning, ice at night.
  9. In my opinion, NO. In fact in my experience not only no advantage, but actually I see them as a disadvantage. In order for the red to stick to the metal they are first plated with a gold colored plating. Then they are colored red. This process yields a hook point with two layers over the point. To me the red hooks seem considerably less sharp than a regular hook of the same brand.
  10. A 6'6" MH rod with 6" off the end makes for a pretty stout rod for skipping. I like a 6' rod for skipping but I doubt the rod is going to load up enough to sling a bait well.
  11. Smallmouth 60feet deep on a jigging rappala.
  12. It's about the toughest mono I've ever used.
  13. How deep was the fish caught? 12' Did the lure contain rattles or have hinges? No Was the lure a natural color (brown, green) or was it an unnatural color (chartreuse, orange)? Black/red shad If possible, what moon phase was your PB caught during? unknown
  14. I strongly prefer Dawn because of the quiet peacefulness and watching the new day beginning. That being said, I find Dusk fishing more productive.
  15. With most soft plastic baits the salt makes them sink. The more salt the faster they sink. The only way to remove salt from baits that have the salt melted in when they are poured is to re-melt them. Then all you will have is melted soft plastic with the salt settled on the bottom of the pan. I frequently use the regular Horny Toads as a subsurface bait.
  16. Quite possibly a caught and released fish that someone let flop around on the ground or on their boat carpet. Fish slime removal under those conditions often leads to delayed mortality do to disease.
  17. Nope, not unless it's in a tournament, then I get crabby.
  18. I never trim them but always spread them out pretty good. I seemed to get more snags when I used to trim them.
