  1. I have had great luck on the larger suspending minnows but have never tried the floaters. I like their tight wiggle and for that price you can't go wrong giving them a try. They are great early spring baits.
  2. does he still do "beat charlie moore"? I sent him a challenge to come down to Georgia and compete in our jon boat bass tournament but I never heard from him/the show. I was hoping I could atleast get a reply from them saying that they were not interested.
  3. I'd rather fish in a light or medium rain than afterwards. I have never had a lot of luck after a big rainfall. I don't know if it is the change in pressure, frontal conditions, or the influx of fresh water but it seems to turn the bass off in the ponds and rivers that I fish.
  4. I have all of the setups below but I usually only take three setups with me when I hit a pond or the river due to space concerns in my 14X36 jon boat that I fish out of. More than that and it gets a little cramped with me and my partner in the boat. I usually take.. 1. 6'6 MH for weighted plastics 2. 6'2 M for weightless plastics/flukes 3. 6'6 M for crankbaits When they start biting topwater baits I may throw in a 4th rod... a 6'9 MH. All are baitcasters. Like Raul said, you can live with two rods. More than that is just a convienience.
  5. good choice on the St. Croix. The handle on the Carrot Stix Wild is really fat and not well shaped in my opinion.
  6. I use these and they work pretty good. they still frey the line a little and seem to get worse the older they get. They are not a rock solid pair of pliers if you have to bend a big hook or something. However, they are a great compromise so that you don't have to carry a pair of pliers and a pair of scissors. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-61/2-Strait-Braided-Line-Cutting-Pliers/product/10205256/-1649721
  7. All in the editing. Do you think the editors just don't like Martens or are so in love with KVD that they do this on purpose or do you think tha they just thougt it was an interesting story. They put a lot of footage on TV of Martens (and others) commenting on how many and how big of fish KVD was catching. Yet they only showed footage of KVD being super confident and shouting stuff like "lights out".
  8. As I said in another post he is primed to continue to win classics if BASS continues to keep the same format for them. If they continue to hold them in the deep south in late February he should continue to dominate because this format feeds into his primary skills as a cranker. This time of year in the deep south you are looking at the initial warming period in which the big girls are moving into the spawning flats and are succeptible to crankbaits. Just like last year he found a spawning flat, sat on it for three days, and milked it dry. Nice game plan. I see more trophies in his future.
  9. I didn't see any of this on the TV coverage. Where you guys there?
  10. Haha. It was a bit awkward wasn't it. I liked it though. Especially when KVD told him he was gonna go over here and catch a ten pounder. That gave me a good laugh. I liked it when KVD said "I must be a magnet because you keep getting closer and closer to me". Awesome!
  11. I like KVD but I really wanted to see Jeff Kriet win the classic last year. During his interview he talked about how it was his time and how tired he was of seing Kevin win everything. He was very passionate and you could FEEL how bad he wanted it. As for A. Marteens, he comes across as a whiney school girl but it could just be due to the way they edit the footage. I probably would sound the same way if i had to watch KVD catch 6lbers all day long a cast lenghts away.
  12. I have also wondered if any of the pros have friends that fish the area for them and give them a detailed scouting report of water temp., water conditions, what the bass seem to be doing and what they are biting.
  13. I wish they would have shown more coverage of Duckett on TV? Did he feel that he could have won if they had had one more day on the water? Was he talkative or just focused on the fish?
  14. If they continue to hold the classic in late February in the lower south you can expect to see KVD add to his list of titles. This scenario is taylor made for his style of fishing. They are fishing when the water first begins to warm and the big girls are coming to the party. He did the same thing last year. He found a spawning flat where the females were starting to move into and he sat on it for three days and milked it dry with a crankbait. Unless they change the date or move further north he should continue to dominate.
  15. Georgia Jeff replied to Md's topic in Tournament Talk
Not really. I DVR'ed it and missed the most important part, the final weigh in. That really sucks. Spoiler alert!!! KVD won and Martens finished second AGAIN!
  16. It must me amazing to have so much confidence in what you are doing like KVD does. You never heard him mention what the other anglers where catching. But you heard both Rook and Martens and others talk about having to watch KVD catch all the big fish. He was in their head big time. He even started shouting "yeah" and 'lights out" on the last day just to get in their head a little more. Man it must be frustrating for Martens knowing that if it were not for KVD he could have one two classic titles!!!
  17. switch to braided line and don't change anything else
  18. I did some experimenting this morning on the water and got my zoom super flukes to fall horizontally by moving the hook a good ways back in the bait. Worked like a charm untill I caught a fish or two and then the head of the bait got ripped up from the braid. I may try a larger hook next time out. Thanks for all the input. Tight lines!
  19. did you buy the insurance on it or were they just really nice.
  20. both good points. Power pro will fade over a years period of time to be a pretty light green/whitish color. I just unspool, turn it around, retie it to my backing (mono) line and spool it back on.
  21. What is that top bait? It looks like the real thing.
  22. I typically throw mine to the shore around grass/weeds and work it quickly away from the shore for about 5 feet, then I like to kill it and let it sink. I want to find a combination that doesn't nose dive and start sinking like a rock but flutter down like a senko. And before a smart butt comments, Yes I know I could just use a senko if I wanted that action.
  23. Thanks for all the advice guys. I will have to try different size hooks and see if that makes a difference. I am leaning towards the SK Caffine shad has it seems to have more weight at the tail section to help it fall horizontally (like a senko). Any other advice/opinions will be much appreciated.
  24. I fish zoom super flukes on 3/0 gamakatsu superline hook and fish it on 30lb powerpro and it nose dives.
