  1. Yeah, it's a vertical fall. He is talking about how the bait is positioned horizontally, not falling head first. Yep, that is what I mean.
  2. Yes, a zoom super fluke on a 3/0 gammy will nose dive!
  3. I fish braided line on my crankbait rod so even a slightly dull hook rips right into their lips (and occasionally through them). Works for me!
  4. a couple of red eye shads a shallow, medium, and deep diving crank a Yozuri jerkbait a zara spook a buzzbait or two The rest I would spend on senko style baits and Zoom trick worms.
  5. I was watching Bill Dance the other day and he was fishing the Yum, Houdini shad with a 5/0 gamakatsu skip gap hook and he said it fell horizontally similar to a senko. It must work because all he caught was 5 to 8 lb. fish ;D! Has anyone ever tried this or a similar setup? Is it the skip gap hook that makes it fall horizontally or the bait? Can anyone recommend a good fluke style bait that would fall horizontally? It seems to me that the Strike King KVD fluke would sink horizontally before the houdini shad would due to the heavier fat tail that it has -vs- the skinny tail on the Houdini shad. Any recommendations?
  6. If I leave a salted plastic worm on the hook they will rust in the off season, even with gammys.
  7. That is a good deal. I haven't found one on sale yet.
  8. Same here. It is wearing off where my thumb sits of the top corner of the reel. It isn't a big deal it just bugs me and I wasn't sure if it was some kind of accumulation or something rubbing off.
  9. so, it is the clear coat and it happens on this model. Is there anything that I can do to prevent this from happening? Is it OK to scrap the rest of the coating off?
  10. No, not rust. It is a clear film that scrapes off with your fingernail. It is kind of like clear tape.
  11. I know that Tim Horton is using them now. I spoke with him briefly in Macon two weeks ago at BPS. He spoke highly of them but I am sure he is sponsored by them and therefore not very partial. One of the rods on the floor was missing an insert but none of the others were. You never know what kind of abuse they take on the floor at BPS. the salesman did mention that they were selling pretty well. I want one but really don't need another rod.
  12. That sounds like a nice combo. I am actually interested in both the rod and reel you have. Be sure to give us an update after you have had some time on the water please.
  13. Does anyone else have any issues with a thin clear film forming on their shimano 50 mg's? It scrapes off but is really aggrivating. Does anyone know why this forms?
  14. I hope more people chime in as I am interested in them also. I held one this weekend and they feel great. They don't seem as tip heavy and many split grip rods. Maybe that is due to the red winding checks that weigh the back of the rod down some to aid in balance. They were super light and had a cork grip which I prefer. I also picked up the new Carrot stix rods. They felt pretty comparable but the Ducketts are $50 cheaper. If you want cork grips and micro guides on a carrot you have to spend $199.
  15. So you are saying that they do make them but you have to buy them from Japan and you have to pay atleast $400!
  16. So you are saying that they do make them but you have to buy them from Japan and you have to pay atleast $400! :'( Oh indeed they do. I have several that are within .1 to .4 oz. of the Steez. All under the 6 oz. mark. Daiwa PX 68 Liberto Pixy Daiwa Alphas-ito Ai
  17. Nice, but you would think that Diawa could offer some lighter weight reels other than the Steez.
  18. shimano chronarch 50mg shimano curado 100d
  19. i fished 30 lb powerpro for everything last year so I way not be the best person to ask. I fish mostly ponds in the spring and small rivers in the summer. Most people would think this is crazy but I don't feel that I loose any fish due to fishing braid with everything. I don't catch any less fish than I did when I fished mono. I have a really flexible rod that conteracts the lack of stretch in braid when I fish crankbaits. Some people like to use a florocarbon leader but the fish don't seem to notice the lack of one.
  20. I may have to give that knot a try.
  21. I tie a palomar then cut it off and slide it into the area where the hook eye connects (the opening) then I tie the hook on like normal. The cut off knot fills the gap so that the line can't slip out.
  22. I compared the 6'6 M Vendeta and the Carbonlite and I bought the carbonlite. I think the carbonlite is a little better balanced and felt a tad lighter. It works well for crankbait fishing but is not sensitive enough to me for bottom bouncing techniques. The carbonlite has a better grip to me. It has the hard rubbery strips over the EVA. However, the Vendetta has a better warranty, looks cooler, and can be found cheaper unless BPS is running a sale. Now things should be clear as mud for you.
  23. BPS is clearing out there Johnny Morris Extreme rods. They make a 6'3 M with a fast tip rod with recoil guides. This is an awesome rod. They retailed for $199 but can be found on clearance for a little over $100 if you can find one. Great rod.
  24. I have a pair of Costa Del Mar Tropic Star glasses that have the three sets of interchangale lenses that I would recommend. I use the grey set when driving around or when it is really bright. I use the Vermillion (yellowish color) in low light. These really make green colors pop and doesn't make everything dark like most sunglasses do. I wear the amber colored lenses when I want to look at life through rose colored glasses! ;D They are a decent pair of glasses and can be found for less than $100 easily. However, they are not as good as their glass lenses. I can notice some hazing or weird depth issues (hard to explain) out of my periferal vision wearing the grey lenses that I never experience with my Triple Tails with glass 400 lenses. But for only about $70 I can live with them. Especially since I use the vermillion lenses most of the time anyways.
