  1. Oh he was a tasty one, thanks for asking! J/k. Would never do that. I actually caught it at another lake a couple miles from the house and brought it along with 3 others to our lake that is within walking distance. Just stocking our pond, thats all. Anyway, I wanted to show my GF that is why I brought it in the house. As you can see in the picture my shirt is soaked, he was in a tub the whole time. I release all my freshwater fish
  2. I am using a eagle claw 2/0 wide gap, no weight. Cast it 10-20 ft out and let it hit the bottom. After 10-15 seconds I am slowly bouncing it off the bottom while reeling it in. Once or twice I caught them while just reeling it in.
  3. This is a 17 incher that I had caught earlier in the day, just using for reference.
  4. This bait is awesome! ;D I dont have a local shop that carries them so when I seen a bass pro shop I ran in and grabbed a few bags. Black w/blue flakes and Watermelon seed. I started at a pond right out front of my house and within the first 10 minutes they snapped my 8 lb line twice :-/ So came home and put some 17 lb spider line on went out again. Caught 5 LM that were atleast 2 lbs, and one that was 23 1/2 inches! ;D. A personal best for me. I have 3 pictures and will post them once I figure it out. Anyway I am just ecstatic over this bait! I am fishing ponds that I normally catch 1 and sometimes none and they are usually on the smaller side. With this I am catching alot of QUALITY bass. I feel like I am cheating when using this and seeing noone else around catching anything and I am reeling them in with ease. Just thought I would share, have a good one guys
  5. I picked up the 8" flapp'n tail and after going through 4 of them rather quickly, said to myself that I wouldnt buy them again. Seemed soft, to soft that they were brittle. Anyway, Im a noob to all this so who knows, I couldve been doing it wrong or something.
  6. CFFF 1.5, I'll keep eyes open for it next time Im there.. Thnx
  7. Some of my own feedback now on the the Rapala F7. Went out about an hour before sundown and the FIRST cast with it, had a bite and reeled in a winner! Maybe 8 inches, lol. Have to be happy with that! Bout an half hour goes by and I get another one, maybe a 1/2 inch bigger. Cant wait to get it to a lake with some bigger bass in it, as this pond has maybe been there for a year.
  8. I went out to the pond and tried out the super spook jr and the rapala. d**n that spook is big, but since this is my first time ever actually trying to use a topwater correctly, it seemed not to do what I expected. It had a "Z" motion to it. First impression, might be a while before I catch one on this. But when I do, my guess is its gonna be a big one! The Rapala on the other hand, did as I thought it would and looked like it was just a matter of time before a bass hit it. First impression, I really like this one. Cant wait to get it out to some of the other ponds in the area. The buzzbait does exactly what it says, d**n that thing just screams. This is a great thread I believe and before I go out and get something next time, I will definetely come back here and try to get some more of what you guys have recommended. Thanks guys and I'll keep you updated on what works for me.
  9. I picked up the super spook Jr ( in what I would consider white ) and the F7 rapala ( in silver ). Do you guys leave the small treble hooks on them, or switch them out? That is all that Wal-Mart had. Also got the Strike King Jr buzzbait.
  10. Thanks for all the replies. Not sure which ones to choose. But looks like the spook is a definite. The only store I have locally is Wal-Mart. So if they dont have any of them, I'll order a couple off the net.
  11. x9236 by heddon Did some reading on it and all it had was good reviews. Def keep an eye out for it. I liked the look of "black shiner", I guess the clear is that good though? Any other suggestions?
  12. If you had 10$ to spend, what would you recommend for a topwater? I have none, and would like to get my aresenal started. Also do you know if Wal-Mart carries the yamamoto Kreatures?
  13. Hm, guess its not so out of the norm. Im still learning here, but when you do find a bed, does that mean there is a few bass in the area?
  14. Thanks _thetr20one_. Hopefully I can put it to use now.
  15. Searoach, I get the jist of what you are saying. Guess I can practice some tomorrow. I am just worried that if the hook is not sticking out a hair, that when I go to set the hook, the worm dont fly out the bass mouth. Bass_fin@tic, no doubt it was the one I just had caught earlier. Yes it was on a bed. Good deal, glad you got your stuff back
  16. Ok, got ya. So I guess I am doing it right then. Having to do it this way due to heavy vegetation. ( lost enough stuff the last few days, dont want to risk anymore) Now I am just losing the fish. Thnx guys
  17. Is something like this normal? 8 ft offshore I noticed where one was spawning?? 3 ft circle, anyway dropped a 5"lizard in there and on the 3rd try caught a small 3/4 lb bass. Then minutes later I went back to that spot and caught a 1 1/2 lb'er. Now figured that was enough and went back inside. Then about 2 hours later headed back out there with the same lizard and within 5 cast, I landed her again. Take it that they dont have much of a memory? Now that I got you here, I had some issues today. I picked up on that "texas-rig" ( Learned that from this site ) and I am leaving the hook inside the worm, just enough to where I can feel the tip with my finger while barely pressing on it. Is that right? Or should some of it stick out? I lost 4 bass earlier and think it was due to the way I was hooking the worm/lizard. Sorry guys, just trying to learn.
  18. Thnx for the welcome guys. Size, Id say over 3 football fields long and 2 wide, with an island in the middle. The reason for me saying noone fished this lake is because there wasnt easy access. They just put a road through there about a year ago.
  19. AJ, I WISH I had some way of getting out on the water. I would be out there 18 hours a day. Wouldnt have enough time in the day for myself if that was the case. Well the bass hit it really soft ( I believe that is due to noone fishing this lake ) that bass had no idea there was a hook there it seemed, till I yanked back. I have caught 30 or so bass these last couple months, and this one far excedded my expectations.
  20. Yeah didnt think of that. Guess Ill stick to worms, just it has been real windy here the last couple days and light tackle is not working. ( 30 mph gusts ) Any tips for bass fishing with wind like that? Also I caught that bass while slowly reeling the worm in, is that right? I really want to catch that one again, sucked that the worm and hook are still hooked to her. Think they came out? Thats why I want to try a different approach.
  21. Hi all, first post 8-) Been doing alot of bass fishing since being laid off. This is nearing the end of 2 months of no work! To the point. Been catching plenty of 2-4 lber's in a pond within 100 ft of my front door. That wasnt getting old, but wanted to try a new lake. So headed up the road bout a mile. So stood on the shoreline, threw out a ~8" black worm w/glitter. Got it out about 15 or so ft, and on the 4th try I landed a big one. Didnt even feel him hit it, noticed the line start going out then I yanked it she took off. On the line maybe 30 seconds and she jumped out the water ( tail was still in ) d**n, had to be all of 8 lbs. After that she ran out, pulled some drag with her, then turned around and started coming right to me. YES, then she got in some weeds and broke the line :'( I packed up and headed home. I had some 4 lb test on there and if I want to catch the biggins, that was not the easy route. So picked up some 17 lb. So my next ? is, I have easy access to bream, can I use them to catch big bass? If so, how to hook and what size? After seeing that beauty, I am now hooked ;D What is a "jig n pig?
