Since I read about the US Reel Super Caster Spinning reel I been dying to see if it can out cast my hottest setup with my Finor 400s with my 7' spinning rod. I'm casting around 60+ yards now maybe more. I figuring using two of the same exact rods with the same test line and 5/8oz. lures too. I'll make sure it's a calm day for this casting test. I wonder if I could go to a local football field that has the yardage marked early in the morning. Right now I outcast every shore fisherman that's ever near me. I just wonder if the super caster outcasts my setup. Now in fishing from shore making long casts does have its down sides like I seen before. I lost a new state record LMB When she it at the longest part of my cast. She went down in the weeds so fast I lost her. Even with my Popeye arms I couldn't pull her up. Being that long of a cast the slack line and my reaction time was off too. So I know success is iffy on long casts. But I gots to know if the super caster can out cast my hot topwater setup. It's all about bragging rights. I found a new super caster 180 spinning reel on sale for $57 with free shipping. One reel for one cast time will tell.

I just ordered a Berkley Lightening Casting medium heavy duty fast taper 7' rod it was on sale for $30. I been looking for a heavier duty casting rod. I just don't like the upper weakness on some of my bait casting rods. I guess you call that the "power" of the rod. I plan on putting my new US Reel 800SX Hibdon super caster bait caster reel on it. I'm just not sure of using either 12# or 14# test line on it yet. I'm thinking of using it for top water and maybe cranks for now.

One point I'm seeing is when we hit around $100 we seem to get ball bearing on the brake side of the spool. The spools seem to spin longer because they have less friction with two ball bearings. It's just one thought.

I don't see any larger jigs for northern pike or Muskies? Even the larger chain pickerel would like to chew on them too. Now I'm thinking we use so many different colored lures in topwater and crankbaits why don't we use the brighter colors in jigs too? My bomber crankbaits come in redapple craw, green craw, Brown craw etc. Do you think the bait manufacturers are trying to tell us something with all the craw colors? Mike made me some red jigs and chartreuse colored jigs to try. They look great. I think the bluegill color will be a hit too. It's a fact that big bass eat bluegill all the time not just on the holidays. I noticed when the bite slows down with other lures to first upsize. Then change colors so the bite will continue. I'm wondering if the same tactic will work with jigs too. If it works with inline spinners and crankbaits it has to work with jigs too.

I named him Rambo he was like Stallone hanging from the curtains all the time wild like Rambo. He even had a fight with one of my dogs. It looked like a Popeye fight with a big cloud of dirt with paws sticking out of it. He's a Rambo for sure. But Smokey the fire cat fits him too. Your right.

As its been said some people can't see the forest though the trees, there missing the boat, unless there in the boat with no oars, etc you get my point. When I was logging full time when I had my firewood business I was out cutting in the light snow one day I shut the chainsaw off and sat on a stump. I could actually hear the snow hitting the ground. I thought to myself who has a better work place than me. Heaven is right here on earth.

I been purchasing Mike's Jigs since the holiday sale in all sizes and colors. I went from 3/8, to 1/2, to 3/4 & 1oz. I missed the 1/4oz. I been buying all the different ones too. I know once I teach my two sons how to use jigs my jigs will get good use. Dad will buy more. After showing them a new lure they fish it better than I do with equal success. That's what I enjoy watching others catch fish on lures too. Btw, I went back to Mike now for all the 1/4oz. Jigs too. Hmmmm a bluegill swim jig I think I need those too.

I start to understand how some bass will strike right away and some will take more teasing to make them strike. We have quick to think and strike bass and kind of laid back lazy bass that will take a longer time to strike. I just took in two more kittens that no one wanted. I can't save or help them all but I'm doing my part. There both brothers. One isn't afraid of nothing while the other one seems to think things out more. I get the aggressive one to play right away. While the laid back one watches till he is ready to play. The bass are no different, some will strike right away and some will take a few casts to make them strike. I tend to do more fan casting in some areas by going to the far right then the left so I don't spook them. I don't cast in the same area or near the same area. I try not to over lap my casts. I cast the Rocky points the exact same way but I change directions on the points. I fish up the Rocky points and across the Rocky points. Fan casting the whole area gives the laid back timid bass a few chances to strike. Also try slowing down your presentation. It's like playing with a kitten. I rescue abandon kittens in the wilds that people dump where I'm fishing. I find these cats are traumatised because of the way they were treated. I have three awesome full grown black cats that we're born outside. No one wanted them because they were black. I took them in. They never really played together or seemed happy at first. Now comes along my two new kittens there bringing my feral cats out of there shell. There actually playing with the kittens now. I never realized how traumatised a pet can get when there abandoned. These kittens and dogs just hit the lotto when I find them. They have it made. In return my three tamed feral cats now are taking care of my rodents on my mini hobby farm. They earn there keep. Rescue a pet today from your local shelter. Having a dog is a good alarm system. I have one cat who is a smoke alarm. The woodstove smoked backed up one day and he was crying letting me know that something was wrong in the basement. He sounded off before my two smoke alarms went off. There was very little smoke.

Ok I just ordered the Siebert 1 1/4oz punch jigs. My question is about setting them up. Can braid be used for the leader? What kind of hook do you use? Weedless? I'm totally new to these. Thanks, bill

Ok I'm thinking that braided line is the line of the future. I guess it's gaining more popularity too. Since braid is expensive do you use a filler line in your reel? Do you use a leader for your crankbaits, inline spinners, spinnerbaits and jigs. For topwater lures I'm thinking no leader is needed. Does braid wear out your reels and rods faster. How long does braided line last on your reel? Is there anymore I should know about braided line before I try it again? Sorry for the dumb questions.

I don't think when I'm fishing. My mind is automatically programmed on what I have to do. I stay motivated and focused to throw my ritual of lures. I've done this so many times now I just do it. I get into my own zone and fish. I'm zoned out and focusing so hard at times I don't hear anything around me. I don't even hear people talking to me. It's me and the fish. I mainly focus on my presentations making them perfect. I just don't have time to think about anything else. I try to increase my catch on every trip. I don't beat myself up if I don't catch more bass on every outing but I do try to figure out what I did wrong to improve myself for the next trip. It's the challenge that keeps me going back.

And we couldn't buy a bite right?

My oldest son is my best lure retriever. He will go swimming for any snagged lure in a heartbeat. This kid is so cheap he goes after $2 lures too. Thank God he's cheap. I do like my lure knocked I posted above when my son isn't with me.

I would go for a Quantum Code Red baitcaster they list for $99 and I know we're you can get a decent baitcaster rod $30 plus the reel for $54 for $84 that's hard to beat. Enough left over for new line, New lures and maybe lunch on the dollar menu.

Brushhoggin, Thanks for the video. I been sorting out a lot of Siebert Outdoors jigs I purchased and I just out a rage trailer on one of them. I showed my wife your video them showed her the jig with the trailer. She was very interested and she understands about jigs now. I'm new to jigs, I've thrown a few in the past with success but never really got into them until now. Being I'm into the color thing with cranks and the topwater lures I figure why should jig colors be any different when matching the water conditions. My crawfish in the ponds are black backs and a reddish color. In the rivers here there a tan color. But in muddy and stained water the game changes. Time will tell if I'm as successful with the brighter colors in the darker water conditions or not. Chartreuse rules the assortment of colors in the darker waters. Joe thanks for all the info. That info should be a sticky here.

The jerkbaits are evolving. But $27 I may buy one.

I guess I'm kind of a nut case on a bike But it's the nut cases who live. Remember when your slow your a target. When your fast your a moving target..... I never had a problem on a streetwise or a dirtbike but that quad is what got me. I broke my ribs three times in two years on the quad. Trust me having four wheels isn't safer than a bike. My son with all his dirtbike experience in racing dirtbikes too while on his 400cc Suzuki bandit he came around a blind turn and never expected a herd of deer across the road. He thought quick and tee boned one deer. It went up on the handle bars until he stopped. The deer took off but it totaled the bike. When he told me what had happened, I thought he was kidding but the bike was full of fur. The experience in riding the dirtbike paid off. He's been riding a Suzuki GSXR 750 for over a decade now.

Wordens Rooster Tails in silver blade with a white body with a white bucktail is one of my favorite trout lures in streams. My next hottest trout lures are Joe's flys in blackgnat. His spin fly. For bass and pickerel the panther Martin's and mepps never let me down. The Joe's fly in the 1/4oz bass size is a good producer too. The old inline spinner is still a very hot lure and it's overlooked by many fisherman. Don't forget the mepps comet minnow too.

I have a collect of Terry Clark of Tclark custom lures work. I had him painting pike lures in all the bass colors. He has painted regular standard bass lures in awesome bass colors too. I'm not sure wether to frame them as lure art work or use them. These look so awesome they could be shown in an art gallery in New York city. I am a fishing tackle hoarder I admit it.No bait monkey here it's a bait gorilla by now maybe a bait king Kong. I collect plastics, cranks, topwater and right now I'm getting into fishing with jigs. I have six Plano 3700 plastic boxes with Siebert Outdoors jigs in them. If the world ever comes to an end if I survive I can fish for many decades we'll past my date with Destiny. My kids will use it.
