I just tested the the auto ordnance army WW 2 copy and it's been flawless for 500rds of 45cap ball ammo. It's a no frills, no bells, and no whistles 1911a1. These run about $500/$600 now. It actually performs better than the gun rags said it did. This has the investment casted frame made from 4140 steel which isn't too shabby. The Springfield armory 1911a1 is under test right now. It's the low cost to model. So far it's been flawless right out of the box too. It has a forged forged steel frame and slide. My point is what's wrong with a standard 1911's? They spit out the 45acp just as good as the high cost 1911's. I just finished up a 1911 build using a Chinese norinco 1911 as a platform. It came out awesome and shoots 3 shot clover leaf per 8rd mag using Russian wolf ammo. I'm sure with better quality ammo it will shoot even better. This was a low budget build using new bargain basement parts. It depends on what you want a 1911 for? I can afford anything I want but I'm very frugal too.

We use the smaller crawfish lures casted behind every big rock. I believe Mr twister has these on sale/clearance right now. I do lose lures in rivers.

My biggest bass was caught on a rebel big claw crawfish crankbait at 4:30 to 5:00am. I was fishing up at 3:30am everyday from spring till I get burned out by June or July. I hammered it everyday ever since I retired. That's the only way we can catch these bigger, smarter gals. She was two feet from shore in the shallows. The bigger fish are in the shallows during the darkness feeding then they disappear like this I'm trying to break the state record of 12lbs.14ozs. So far I'm up to 10lbs. One more thing is being stealthy when trying to catch these trophy sized fish. I find big bass in every small body of water. There not being caught because there smart. When I walk up to my spot I'm in stealth mode. I handle my rods and tackle boxes very quietly. Walk softly too. Do not make any noise. I cleared my throat once and seen a very large wake in the water swimming away from me. I spooked it. We need to act like we're not even there we need to be that quiet. It's not luck in fishing it's skill. I can only suggest what works for me. I once fished and lived in Westwood,NJ. Bogarts pond was my learning ground as a little kid. Fishing in the evenings the bass are higher in numbers but not as big as the early am. Plus the place is quieter with you being the only one fishing.

Example; I was using a mepps #3 Anglia dressed and catching fish after fish, smaller ones it was a frenzy. Then the bite just stopped suddenly. It was a blue bird day and nothing really changed. I had a gut feeling to up size my lure. I put on a #5 mepps spinner in the same color pattern and landed a 30" pickerel. This taught me when the frenzy stops the bigger fish come closer to see what all the fuss is about. But they won't strike the smaller lure. Keep an open mind and experiment while you fish too. I just had Terry Clark repaint some super top props for pike/Muslims in bass colors and they look awesome.

Thanks to Glenn here he taught me to stay trying too. I found out my set up was not right. I take a 1/8oz silver blade spinnerbaits and replace the skirt with the larger skirt in blue glimmer first . Then I add a mister twister split double tail 4" trailer with trailer hook. You need to put the trailer on so the spinnerbaits doesn't spin as you crank it. It has to run straight up and perfect. Add a shot of shad scent and your good to go. You may need to trim the plastic trailer to fit the spinnerbaits hook too. I also reel it slow enough so it's below the sight line too. It's we're we can see it but the fish can see it.

I use the senko' s and the BPS stik o worms on a 1/8oz Carolina rig with a 24" leader and the ticker wacky rigged using a weedless hook. My favorite colors so far are red shad, Amber red flake seem to work the best here. I use them in the channels along side the weedlines and on the points. There working from shore for me. I use them in the early am after the crankbait, spinnerbaits and topwater action is over as it gets lighter I go deeper with the senko type worms. Even on cloudy overcast days these work great. I let it fall on its own or twitch it as it falls to tic it. Keep trying. Try small ones too. (3"). Bill

The government did a survey on the fish population and how to keep the numbers up so we have a future in catching fish. They said to take the smaller fish to eat so the larger fish can still breed. My home state finally got the message and now we have slot limits on LMB. I always released my bigger fish anyway. For a mount all we need is a picture and the measurements.

I have 10 more treatments of radiation to go and I'm chomping at the bit to get out there at 3:30am still looking for that state record breaking LMB. I'm still at 10lbs. for my pb so far but I have seen bigger than 10lbs. swim by as I land a smaller fish. I have noticed that these bigger gals go after the panfish as I reel them in. I figure the bigger the fish the bigger the bait? Does anyone use the COLOR C LECTOR yet? I notice the older color c lector on eBay. The early models just gave us the color choices were the last COMBO C LECTOR gave us the water temp, the water PH at that depth, plus the color choice too. I find it does work on tough days. Does anyone have the newer one yet? I do plan on adding one just to test it out. For you shore fisherman I find the portable fish finder very handy to have too. I use it for finding info about the bottom structure. Rather than poke holes when the ice is on using a saltwater weight and line to figure out where the drop off's, the flats and the deeper areas are. I mainly fish from shore at the smaller bodies of water. I can move from place to place very quickly since there all close together. Plus being disabled I can still fish and be close to the car too. I refuse to stop fishing and hunting. If you have a smaller body of water nearby like the size of a farm pond you just may want to drop a crankbait or spinnerbait in it. It may surprise you how good these untouched places fan be. It's also a time to try out new newlines and presentations too. Every time I try new lures and presentations a fish will interrupt me telling me I have it correct. I still enjoy being in the hunt for a new state record and just being out there with nature. One more question before I go. Being out in the early am I'm seeing fresh water otters right st day break. They seem to disappear as it gets lighter out. Does anyone else see these to? It had me wondering how they affect the bass population? Every body of water where I fish at had fresh water otters. God bless ,,,,,bigbill

I have to say I enjoyed the fight and the battle from all three 30" chain pickerel While bass fishing. But it was a 6lb.1oz. Large mouth that gave my lure a tour of Small dammed up river that was used once for water power well over 150 years ago. She just never tired out. I find these small dammed up old places that hold the biggest bass here.

The 9mm luger round isnt the great stopper that most think it is. Over in the sand box right now it takes many shots to stop these bad guys in close quarters. The 1911 in 45acp is the better caliber for having more stopping power. This is why the spec ops and seals use the 45acp. Again you need to buy what pistol feels good in your hand and one u can shoot accurately too.Start out small and work your way up.

In my hunt to break the state record of 12lbs 14ozs i'm up to 10lbs now being my biggest so far. I caught her on a Rebel BIG Claw crawfish crankbait that dives to ten feet and also floats. I caught her two feet from shore just before dawn at 5am. I was shocked to see the size of this fish. I have only fish this big in saltwater. I was fishing by the moon phases . The moon charts i used said "good early"the so i went at about 3:30am and fished till first light. This was during the full moon cycle. The guys at infisherman say to catch the bigger record breaking fish we have to fish during the fullmoon phases. I was also fishing by mauri charts too when it was in the outdoor life magazine. Up until then i have caught many 2lbers to 6lbers most of the time ie same spot. I fish this one spot all summer very heavily in the early hours of the am. I fish everyday but i pay special attention to the moon phases too. At the early am its the only time i can fish alone there and its quiet. Finding at night its too crowded. Plus i find the fish are bigger in the am too. I enjoy catching any size bass the two to three pounders are the most fun. The secret is to stay going everyday. bill btw, To fish by the moon phases look at the charts and figure them to your time zone they may vary for hours.

I fish mainly in smaller places too that are fished very heavy by people looking for there next meal. its very sad to see them taking even the 4" long pan fish. I have noticed the decline in the bass population too. But i have noticed what is the hot lure for this season wont be hot next year. i think fishing the same spots over and over and practicing catch and release the fish actually learn to stay from our lures. Each year i change my lures so the action will continue. I even learned not to wear bright colors and to walk up softly to my spot and dont step on any rocks sticking out of the ground. When we step on rock i he ground near the shore it sends vibrations the water warning the fish. my buddy as pet goldfish i his pond and at feeding time he taps a rock sticking out of the ground and the fish come to the shore so he can feed them. I figure this to be a warning sign to the bass. My point is the bigger bass increase the bass population there for your catching the smaller bass. Since the larger ones have been caught before there smarter now. I would suggest fishing early in the am when the bigger gals are near shoreline ambushing the fish. And to change your lures and presentations too.

My first lure in the early, early "AM" like at 4:00am in the channel along side the weedline is the rebel BIG claw crawfish crankbait that dives to 10'. I swoop the rod back as soon as it hits the water to make it dive ight away then crank it slow. Next is a bomber FAT A size 05 in redapplecraw. I work it topwater slowly or a crank it faster so its just under the surface. As it gets lighter i use a senko on a 1/8oz carolina .

I ccw carried the ruger redhawks in 44mag for over 30years. On and off i carried a ruger security six in 357mag, a cz85db in 9mm luger and the 1911 in 45acp. I been full circle power and weight wise. Right now i carry a S&W model58 with a 4"barrel in 41magnum in nickel finish. I prefer the knock down power of the magnum. You need to pick a handgun that feels good in your hand too. If the grips need to be changed the availability of the grips matters too. Then comes the caliber? A great starter pistol is the military surplus cz82 in 9mm makarov or the newer cz83 in 380acp, or in 32acp, or in 9mm mak too. The cz82can be had for around $250.

We were throwing live small frogs into a man made bass pond. i notice the frog would freeze and free fall slowly then all of a sudden the bass would appear from nowhere and eat it. I figure letting it sit and pause like said ve will work too. I never fished frogs before too and i have all sizes of the bogbait frogs too.

keep the faith and stay looking. i always got a better job everytime i got laidoff. this also gives you time to sell at fleamarkets too. i had a good hussle doing firewood inbetween jobs it kept us fed. i also changed my trade often too.

Since the setup for crappies works so well with the rattle bobber and grubs you maybe right using a senko with a weedless hook?

Three times i got fooled when i thought i had a new state record LMB while on my line still unseen. At three different places i landed 30" monster pickerel. On a bps topnocker. On night i landed a 5 gallon bucket lid sized crappie too on a crawfish crank.

By factoring in when to use certain colors along with the moon phases too. Moon phases is another post.</p>

When i first started bass fishing at an older age(48yo) i was playing catchup. I picked up the older COMBO C LECTOR that tells us the water temp, the ph of the water and a combination of colors the fish can see at that depth and time. I did tests using the bomber crankbaits in green craw, brown craw and red craw using the bomber FAT A 05. The first day i threw all three but one color caught fish. The red one worked. at that day and time. The COMBO C LECTOR did pick red. The second day i threw all three but one color worked again. The brown one worked. The COMBO C LECTOR did pick brown. The third day i threw all three and only the green one worked. Again the COMBO C LECTOR did pick green. The forth day i again tried all the colors and all the colors caught fish. Seeing this tells me the fish can see all the colors t not at the sametime sometimes. Knowing what color to use does give us a head start. But the presentation matters too on what mood the fish are in. Its not just the red, green and brown colors too. my four test days were bluebird sunny days in the exact same spot at the sametime. We must factor in the type of day it is too. Wether its sunny, overcast, rainy or low light conditions too. If you read here about the lure selection for the of day it is and the color of the water its pretty much spot on. I fish in the evenings and early mornings. I noticed when the dark changes to light and the light changes to dark for a brief moment the brighter colors seem to work better. Lets talk its the evening just as it gets dusk my joesfly 1/4oz bass size fly silver blade blackgnat is catching bass after bass then the bite slows down to a hault. I switch my lure color to joesfly in firetiger apache and land a few more fish. This tells m.come the fish cant see the blackgnat color in low light at dusk. On overcast rainy days the tiger apache seems to be the hot color too. Now fishing isn't so easy if you want to catch fish constantly. The lure color does matter as much as lure size matters too. KVD carries a COMBO C LECTOR in his boat too for those tough days.

Nice catch. I lived in northern NJ till i was 10yo. We lived in Westwood and fished in bogarts pond. My older brother took me fishing when i was 6yo. i'll never forget those times we had as kids. My point is to take a kid fishing. We need to teach a kid to fish.

PBJ is my favorite along with a milk chocolate bar for an energy booster along with a diet coke of course. Somedays its ham & cheese. Any sandwich i can eat out of the wrapper without touching it.

I have the ebay chinese top water poppers and there ok. But this is why i been buying up by the box the older Bomber crankbaits in the older colors that still work today. I just can't change my old ways with the newer colors and style of lures. Everytime i put on that bomber crank in redapplecraw i catch fish no matter where i am. I'm even hooked on the norman thin "N" cranks too. Now i wish that someone would manufacture again the BPS Topnocker. Its the biggest fish catcher i have ever used so far.

Its time now to hit your local walmart for clearances and sales. I'm still using the older bomber cranks with the old color patterns. The red's, the browns and greens still work great. Plus its the presentation too. Don't forget a split shot rigged 6" black rubber worm is still one of the greatest bass lures.

You know your a die hard bass fisherman when during a february snowstorm your watching Hank Parker on TV fishing with a bomber crankbait when you jump up and drive to walmart and buy the whole rack of that lure and color. Yup i did just that. Of course i had to wait till spring because the ice was on.
