I just want to drop in and say happy holidays. I been having trouble casting for over 8 years now with my back. I couldn't fish for too long. With my time limited i went out with my hottest lure colors here. The bass pro topnocker in black back chartruese (discontinued), the bomber 05 in red apple craw and the norman thin N in chartruese blue back produced bass right away. I only fished about 4 or 5 times this year. The bad back is under the doc's care right now and on the mend. BigBill

remington 700 in 338win mag. For bear hunting I can put two bullets thru the same hole at 100yds. Revelation (western auto) 30-06 manufactured by mossberg in the early 70's. She shoots nickle sized groups at 100yds. For deer hunting. Russian Izmash Saiga in 223 for yotes. I was never fond of the high priced rifles in 223 but when i seen the brand new saiga's for $259 in 223 it was hard to pass up.

I carried a 44mag for most of my ccw carry life. I just about been thru all the different calibers and handguns too in ccw carry. The ones i like now are the smaller CZ82 & CZ83 in 9mm makarov with there 12rd mags.plus there double action on the first shot and the S&W N frames with a 4" barrel in a magnum caliber. The S&W Model 58 in 41mag with a 4" barrel can be hidden neatly in an in the pants holster. While the CZ82/83 with the same type of holster is a tad lighter and smaller. I perfer the magnum caliber at night fishing from shore in the wilds. There are more bear sightings here lately too. The 41mag has more power than the 357mag and its more controllable than the 44mag yet the killing/stopping power is the same as the 44mag. I been ccw carrying since the early 70's and i'm new to the 41mag and i love it. For a larger caliber semi-auto pistol I perfer the 1911a1 in 45acp with a 5" barrel. The bottomline is do you have a local gun range that rents guns to try to see if youlike them? I've seen new guys want a 500 S&W and the 44mag would scare them when they shot it. Some larger calibers do have some bark to them. If you never shot a handgun before than a small 22lr handgun would be the thing to start off with. Once you master the 22cal handgun then its time to move up to a 9mm or the caliber of your choice once your sure on what you want. Remember its practice, practice and more practice. You can tune the semi auto pistols to your liking too. In the 9mm pistols I have gone up two sizes stronger with the recoil springs to tame down the recoil and handling. At the sametime it wilol cut down on the cycle timing and the over traveling of the slide. The auto will cycle faster and smoother. You can also polish the feed ramps and a tweek here and there will make the auto very reliable and dependable. Godbless; BigBill BTW; You need to pick a handgun you feel comfortable with when you shoot it, it needs to fit in your hand and weight wise it need to feel good in the holster when its on your body too. Also before your purchase see what optional grips/stocks are available too. Revolver or Semi-Auto handgun? I have never had a problem with a revolver as far as dependability and reliability. Some auto pistols are more dependable than others. All my experience with the CZ 75's and 82/83 pistols all of them have been flawless right out of the box. The CZ75's are the choice of the russian spec ops. With the 1911's some can be finiky till you get the bugs out of them but if you have a problematic one most of the time its the extractor that needs tuning or the mag. But overall the 1911 can be made so its very reliable and dependable. With the 1911's I wouldn't carry it until i had 250rds to 500rds fired thru it of flawless operation only then i would put my life on the line with it.

Well after my back getting worse and worse after standing up i finally got it looked at. The past decade my fishing time has been limited by the pain in my lower back and legs,. I have three herneated discs taht there going to treat with steroid injections. When trying to fish I found myself not lasting longer than 15 minutes per trip. I thought it was my mistake knees but my lower back felt like jello when the pain would get worse. I found myself getting more bed ridden too. It was time to get it looked at to get it fixed if it can be. My point is pay attention to your body. As i bumped up to longer fishing rods my pain got worse. But with the 6'6" and 7' rods i could cast farther from shore. Godbless; BigBill BTW; I got intouch with Terry Clark and got some new discounted lures repainted with his awesome bass colors and they look great. Right now he is recovering from his operation and doing well the last time i heard from him. My plan is to send him all my older lures and get them all repainted. I have a lot of newer older lures that i never use because of there color. I figure with the high cost of new lures i can get my older stuff repainted.

Being with the engineering group testing for over 20+ years I get into everything and ask why... Then i read about a low pitch rattle and a high pitch rattle in lures. Examples; The low pitch would be a single ball knocker in a spook or topnocker it gives off a single lower tone rattle. The higher pitch would be the smaller multiple ball rattle in a bomber crankbait, its a finer tone sound. The single ball low pitch knocker seems to call fish in from a farther distance away. The finer high pitch rattle seems to work in that general area close to where your fishing. But at the sametime both rattles seem to work very well and pretty much equal. Any thoughts????

Since i gave up using livebait because we fished too much it got to be very expensive every week my tab was over $50 a week on livebait i had to switch to lures. To me any bass on lures is awesome and it tells me i'm doing it right. Hooking into the larger bass they do give my line a tour of the place during the fight.

All lures work at onetime or another. Its not the lure its how perfect your presentation is. Our presentation has to be spot on. I fish the same smaller places each year and i notice whats hot this year may not be as hot next year. I change my lures often. Now with price, does it really matter? My local tackle shop had spook copies for $2 on clearance. I chose the off colored orange spook. One morning when it was slow i threw it. I caught 5 bass right away. Cheap lure that worked. Its mainly the presentation and color too. I have some LC topwater lures and they work great. If ou look at the luhr jensen peacock bass lures the LC is scaled down smaller and it running backwards from the luhr jensen lure. Hmm? BTW; the LC lures are probably the most expensive lures i own.

I fish from shore too; Remember to fan cast and make perfect circles with your crank handle on your reel. If not a circle you can make the lure go fast and slow giving the fish a view its fake. 1. spooks 2. rapala orginal floater 2'' in blue or black 3. Shallow floatin cranks in all colors, firetiger, red, green and brown a 1' to 3' depth. 4. carolina rigged senko 1/8oz weight with a weedless hook on a 24'' leader 5. mepps #3 inline spinner silver blade/gray tail or gold blade/brown tail 6. Joes flies in the 1/4oz bass size. Blackgnat, mellow yellow, firetiger apache, glo tiger ect. 7. hummingbird portable fish finder the one we cast out. I use it to learn where the dropoff's, the flats and the bottom structure so we can adjust or fishing to it. Look for points too. BTW; Where do the boaters fish at??? They cast to the shore right? Shore fishing is only boat fishing made backwards. We can be more quieter from shore too. We need to be stealthy and not make any noise at all. When the waters are quiet its really easy to spook fish. Walk softly, handle your tackle quietly. Try each lure presentation then go thru them again with different presentations. A shot of scent helps too. I take 5 different rod setups with me too. Besides three full 9609 split roof tackleboxes. Smaller lures require a lighter setup so they run correctly. If i had to pick two rod setups it would be a 6' rod with 8 to 10lb test and a 5'6'' rod with 6lb test.

I picked up some lure jensen vamp lures still new in there boxes. I tried one out and it swims perfectly under the surface like a spook if you hold the rod tip down while reeling it except the vamp has a more side to side movement. The vamps that are left are mainly in weird colors but a new paint job can cure that. Does anyone else still use this lure?

My son and his girl freind dragged me out of the house yesterday to go fishing at 2pm. We went to a place thats close to the car(i'm disabled). He set me up on a rock near the shoreline and off i went. I just wanted to maily practice and checkout my reels and line to make sure there all ok. Going in the dark or low light and finding out your equipment isn't working great is bad. I threw most of my new lures just to see how to present them properly. Wearing polarized glasses i had one flash behind one lure. This place is stocked with trout but has average 3lb bass in it too. Since no one was there i could relax and take my time. As some of you guys remember me from the past i purchase most of the new lures just to try them out. Some of my older lures still look like new too. After trying many lures with no success i put on a discontinued Bomber FAT A 05 in red apple crawdad. And Bamm my first fish was a 10'' perch. I say this all the time the older stuff still works. And the color for that moment was redcraw. Even though i only caught one perch it was a great day just casting. Now i'm hooked again on fishing.......bass fishing.

Soon i will start my 24/7, 30 days a month fishing till i get burned out.

Using senko's will last forever its one more pattern and presentation in our vast arsenal. I use the senko & BPS stick o worms from shore on a 1/8oz brass weight with a brass ball knocker and a weedless hook, with a carolina keeper with a 24'' leader. First cast i let it fall freely or i can twitch it all the way down. If i get a strike and miss it on my second cast a shot of scent means a hook up on the second cast. The BPS stick o worms seem to last longer over the senko's and the stick o 's seem just as productive too..

I use the carolina keeper on my senko plastics rod. I use a snap swivel on the rod and a swivel on the top of my carolina rig with the keeper adjusting the leaders length. This way i can change out my carolina rigs without tying. (different weights already setup) I have a hard time in the light tying knots let alone in the low light and dark situations.

Fishing from shore i have a tackle box for each kind of fishing. 1. Topwater box #9606 2. Crankbait box #9606 3. Weedless box 4. Larger cranks & pike lures For a boat i have a boat magnum bag with everything but plastics. I am very organized because i fish in the dark too. Being organized its easy to pull out lures in the dark.

1. spooks 2. spooks with props 3. torpedo's with props 4. rebel popper 5. floating crankbait like a mann's baby 1 or baby 1 minus, a bomber model a. These can be worked top water very slowly over submerged weeds too.

I firmly believe that using scents covers up our human natural sceont and the oders that are in our tackleboxes. Now they say they attract fish. When i used scent everyday in the same spot even the people near me caught bass too. The current was going away from me so it attracted fish to me, they came in closer. My best results have been using lures with orange colored bottoms, the lures having a rattle and using a scent too. All lures work at onetime or another its figuring which color and type will produce more fish for you in your area. You just need to figure out what natural bait there eating.

Its been spelled mauri and also maori too in some cases. I been looking for the replacement Mauri Fishing charts to go by ever since outdoor life stopped putting them in there magazine. Does anyone else use these?? Its when to fish by the moon phases and it gives the most productive times/days to go fishing.

Clear water; smaller sized lures, natural colors fished faster Slightly stained water; smaller sized lures natural/brighter colors fished slower. Stained water; Medium sized lures brighter colors fished slower. Muddy waters; Larger sized lures brighter colors fished very slow or slowest. I need to slap myself sometimes with this when my success is way off. I'm thinking were all human and forget this at times. But decades ago Dr Loern Hill and Bill Dance proved that the bass can only see certain colors at times. They can't see all the colors all the time like we do.

Here fishing quarries......??? Hint; We would go catching bull frogs at night in the quarries when we were kids. I'd suggest frog lures.

First i know its hard but never feel negative about what your using. I have confidence in every lure. Ok muddy waters; Crankbaits---------------------- Using scents a big plus. Having a rattle another big plus. Larger sized lure in bright colors fished slow, very slow. Spinnerbaits--------------------- I install a larger blade one or two sizes up depending on if the spinnerbait can handle it. Most of my success in stained/muddy water has been the indiana blades and the colorado blades upsized of course. I want the max thump i can get Next is a brighter color like glow chartruese or a bright chartruese skirt. I try to use the larger longer skirt and trim it to properly fit. I don't like the smaller length skirts in stained and muddy waters. Size spinnerbait thats up to you the larger pattern/ shadow (size wise) given off the better. Trailer?? I like the mistwister 4" split double tail trailers. There very large and giving off the besty swimming action to me. On the smaller spinner baits i trim the split double tail bodies since the 2" are being discontinued. Again i have to thank Glenn here he taught me a lot. Thats why my jeep is wrapped with the bass resource decals.

Walk The Dog or a slow retreive does it. Or a twitch, twitch, twitch and pause.....then repeat. For some reason the 3 twitches seems to work with any lure on topwater. I just purchased some magnum spooks to repaint and try in bass colors. "big bait big fish"

Put some on in the evenings after all most of us fish in the mornings so we miss them. I'm old school and grew up with gada about gaddis the flying fisherman and Jerry Mc Kinnis being the only TV fishing shows. I like watching the "In Fisherman" , "Dime Store Fisherman", Hank Parker, Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston and Woo Daves and the pro tips when i can catch them.

Fishing from shore at places that are very wary of new things in there area(fish) I was advised by a down south fisherman to use either darker colors or camo when fishing. If you can see the fish they can see you. I'm talking a small pond with all 10lb bass and bigger.

I threw my topwater popper past the edge of the weedline when i seen a large bass working in the weeds. She came out made a pass and missed it as i paused. I let it stay still and she made a big 90 degree turn and hit it again. I set the hook and down in theweeds she went. I lost her with my lure. I know the feeling. She was well past my PB of 10lbs. This is when fishing from shore isn't so great. So i know the feeling. I went stiffer with my rod action and longer plus i'm up to 14lb test on the topwater lure rod.
