What Lure Are You Going To Teach Yourself To Fish This Year?
I need to break my habit of going with the use of crankbaits, topwater lures, inline spinnerbaits and spinnerbaits all the time and get more into frogs, and plastics this year.. I need to go with deeper running lures, jig n pig, I have them all but i'm using what works for now and i need to change my ways. Now fish wise i need to target northern pike, small mouth bass, trout and salmon more too.

Best Overall Color/size For Topwater Prop Bait.
Pop r another great lure. This is funny; My son never used top water poppers so i gave him a pop r to try. He tied it on at the bucktail and made a few casts until i noticed it and told him your running it backwards. As soon as he turned it around and put it on right he nailed a 3lb bass next cast.

Best Overall Color/size For Topwater Prop Bait.
I purchased about $500 worth of top props all colors (last month)and more split double tail plastic trailers which i use for spinnerbaits too. I been buying the 100pc bags of the trailers.($27 per 100). I'm stocking up on everything. I figure with the water shed next door to me if the end of the world comes i can fish to eat too. The super top props were $5 each. I had Tery Clark paint them all in bass colors and i added the buck tail trailers to most of them. Here's one of my mister twister super top props in gold fish with scales. I added the orange trailer. Terry does do some awesome work.

Terry Clark Custon Painted Lures????
Terry the work you have done in the past for me i really cherish it because my lures look so awesome i hate to fish with them. You do some awesome work....... I'm putting together some lures now and had to order some to repaint too. Its pink at the top and feathers down the body to white. Weird looking fish that day. I figuire the bass are eating them too. It matches exactly what i caught that day without sending Terry a pic. He's a mind reader for sure. Here's a pic of Terry's work. This is a Mister Twister Super Top prop for pike and muskie he painted for me. Since i'm hunting for a new state record I figure big bass eat big baits. I been throwing the #4 & #5 mepps inlies too. I figure the pike and muskie lures painted the right color will work too. But Terry has also painted and made the smaller bass colored lures for me too. I just don't have that kind of patience to do that kind of painting.

All lakes have it
Good post. Knowing how the bottom structure is helps when fishing it. Fishing from shore I take the time at a new spot to use the hummingbird portable fish finder to tell me how the bottom structure is. I find the flats, the holes and the drop off's. Most of the time i can see the rocky points drop off. Now the ilands or shallow ilands are ble too. The water current and the wind direction will tell us how to fish it and where the fish are linded up. Fishing in the current, the wind in a body of water can be like stream fishing. Look for the quiet spots were the fish can rest. Alos look for were the current edge is too. When feeding this is were they will be.

Modifying Plastic Worms
With my split shot rigs from the 70's we take a long sewing needle and run a #2 or #4 sbnelled hook from the lump on a plastic worm to the head pulling the line down the middle of the work. Then tie the snelled hook to our line wit ha split shot 12'' above the worm. If were in a boat we run up to the weeds and back off till the weeds disapear and anchor the boat. We cast into the weeds and fish it very slow. If were from shore i look for a drop off and fish it there the same way slow.

Bass Night Fishing
I have some mister twister top props in midnight there a dark blue/purple with a glitter with a black with blue flake 4'' split double tail trailer.(weedless) I give a word of caution when anyone starts night fishing. I'm in the wilds and hear some strange stuff at night. One night it was next to my car and i waited for daylight to leave. We have more and more bears locally. I also hear body slams like one of us did a belly flop in the pool. Its the big bass jumping out of the water.

Any Lure With An Orange Bottom??
The bigger bass eat sunfish as a main diet and other bigger fish too. Right? Maybe this is why my older bomber FAT A's still produce so well with the orange bottoms. I'm having some lures repainted and i'm looking for orange bottoms on all of them. I'm having success and i'm fishing from shore in places that are n't fished correctly. These guy s use nightcrawlers mainly so there missing the scope of the bigger bass picture.

Common Fishing Things/ Problems That Never Happen To You
I hooked my self once while trying to baitcast a saltwater penn open reel. The hook went into my calf and the more it went up my leg tyhe deeper it went in. I was a kid....It never happened again. I had about 4' of line out when i casted it.

Favorite Pond Lure/technique?
Where do i start.... I enjoy fishing smaller ponds and dams were they were man made to run water power wheels over 100 years ago. They all have drop off's, flats and channels plus points. The 3 or 4 places i fish are close together so can gun and run to the next spot if the bite is off. I'm fishing from shore too. Presentations; Line speed; Are very important on how you turn the reel handle too. You need to turn it a perfect circle with no interupted speed. It has to be an even speed for the lure to work correctly or the fish will notice its off in someway. A constant line speed is very important. Reel & pause; Timing is very important. I like the three quick little even jerk or spins of the reel and then a pause. It has to be exactly the same everytime. Most of the time the fish will hit it on the pause. The fish will time the strike so your presentation has to be spot on. 1, 2, 3, pause, repeat 1, 2, 3, pause....ect Spinnerbaits; I start off with a 1/8oz silver or gold blade spinnerbait, I upsize the single colorado or indiana blade one size larger, (more thump) then i put on a mister twister 4'' split double tail trailer and a trailer hook. Make sure it runs straight and add one shot of YUM shad scent. I will reel it fast enough so its above the sight line were we can see it. Then if nothing happens i will slow it up so its below the sight line, out of our sight but in the fishes sight more. For topwater action hold the rod tip up and reel just fast enough so the blade is out of the water slapping the topwater left and right as you reel it. This exceites the bass too. Crankbaits; Lets say for example a mann's baby 1 in brown crawdad. I reel it slow on my first casts. I may try going faster next. Then i may do the 1,2,3 rip and pause too. You can also let it flaot and just rattle it, move it and repeat. I like the rapala orginal floater 2" in blue, manns baby 1, bomber fat a, bomber model a, rebel big claw crawfish are some of my favorites. The rebel big claw crawfish crank can be used topawter too as well as making it dive to 10'. You can rip and pause it too. Senko's & BPS stick o worms; I use a 1/8oz carolina rig with a clicker with a eagle claw weedless hook. My main colors are red shad, electirc blue with flakes, green shad and size wise its 5" to 6". On the first cast i use no scents. If i get a strike and miss one shot of scent will be a definite hook up on the next cast. Its a good trick to put in the bank. 6" plastic worm split shot rigged; I rig the work with a 12" leader to the split shot. I cast it out and move it a foot at a time on the bottom. Its a slow process but it works. Black is one of my favorite colors. I'm not perfect nor a pro but it works. My sons watch me once and mimic what i do and catch fish too. If we can do it anyone can. Fishing the same places all the time that are fished really heavy I believe the fish do learn our baits. I find that was hot this year won't be as hot next year. Our game isn't off but our lure can be. Were like a baseball pitcher and need to change our pitch (lures) more often to fool them again over and over. I find this more noticable with crankbaits than plastics and spinnerbaits. For me it becomes more of a personal challange to fool them over and over.

Saying No To The Bucket Fishermen
I will only take fish at times to feed my feral kittens that i find while fishing. People don't like it when i throw back the 2lb to 5lb bass. I seen some guys taking 3'' sunfish to eat. Tell them to get food stamps if its that bad.

Essentials You Bring When Fishing, Besides The Fishing Equipment
A cup of coffee and all my tackle that i can carry with me. Sometimes if i plan a day outing the P&J sandwiches come in handy too.

Any Lure With An Orange Bottom??
Why are all my lures with the orange bottom more successful than my baits without it? I'm thinking the orange bottom mimics the sunfish, red ear, blue gills right? I have a very cheap spook copy in orange that i threw oneday that caught bass when nothing else worked. We don't see that many orange colored lures for bass fishing.

What Popular Lure Have You Tried But Had No Luck With?
The baby bass with the orange bottom works great here. Try the spooks early in the mornings or in the evenings as the light starts to go away. I like to give the spooks the three rip and then a pause. Thats just three little rips then pause and repeat. It has to be done exactly right timing wise too. They will time it so they hit on the pause. Trust me i'm still learning after bass fishing for a while now.

A Few New Custom Colors Painted...
The second one is similiar to a "slick" Norman crank color but a tad different i like it. The red is also a hot color for me too. Using a lavender color is hot here too. I would suggest fogging or misting the whole lure with a lavender color with a pearl white as the base color. This is another hot fish catcher color here too. BTW; Nice job they look great.

What Popular Lure Have You Tried But Had No Luck With?
Here's my non producing lures. Rapala DT10 first series nada, nothin, zipo on all of them. I purchased every color and caught nothing. I just put them back in my tackle box to try them again. The older Luhr Jensen crankbaits when they were said to be the hot ticket when they were new. Of course i purchased most of the colors too. I'll try these again too. Guys i find that all this stuff works sooner or later its the conditions and presentations were using. It could also be the baity needs some tweeking so it runs correctly. Spinnerbaits have to run perfectly straight in order to catch fish. I can spend 30 minutes when i first started tweeking them but they do work awesome. Cranks are the same also if there not working too. Its very important to change colors too. I tried jigs with success on the very first try. I walked and hopped it up a rocky point. With the rocky points the wind direction can vary the side the fish are positioned on. There on the down wind side. Its a learning process everytime i go fishing. Using scent helps too and i wash my hands before i go fishing with BIG Orange too. I'm a mechanic so my hands are oily sometimes even when we can't see it. So wash your hands before going fishing and use scents. Do not use the gas pump when going fishing it can ruin your trip. Gas up before you go and wash your hands after you gas up.

What Popular Lure Have You Tried But Had No Luck With?
I purchased them a few years back that were on clearance along with the "flying lure". We took the flying lure out and caught a 3lb bass righ taway. I never opened the helicopter lures up yet. I have them in two different colors. Heck for a $1 there part of fishing history with Rowland Martin on the package. Someday m,y kids may ebay them. Right now there in my fishing museum.

Is It Better To Hooked And Lost Or Never Hooked At All?
I lost many topnockers with bigger bass in the weeds. She hit so hard and fast then went down and buried herself deep in the weeds. Fishing from shore this isn't good.
