Question on your method of weighing fish?
Last year I weighed all of my fish, and have come to really hate the hook hanger! The fish always seem go crazy and flop off of it. I even went out of my way to use a vice to close the hook more, but it didn't seem to help. This year I plan to upgrade the scale to use a gripper. WolfyBrandon

Shadow Rap..any problems?
Since you asked, I thought I would share a video I found... Currently, I haven't had any issue as I only have limited use with the bait, but it's something I'm going to keep my eye on... WolfyBrandon

WolfyBrandon's Fishing 2016 [Update: Day 5]
[ March 07, 2016] (Day 5) Well, it's been quite a few days since the last time I fished. I tried to do some calculations comparing the conditions from my 2015 fishing log to the current conditions this year. I came up with this year being 13 days ahead of last year, so I took the date I caught my first fish last year (March 20th) subtracted 13, and came up with 7. So I planned my next fishing trip for today March 7th. The weather has been constantly raining off and on almost every day since the last day I fished, so this day kind of crept up on me fast. When I realized it was the 7th, I missed the chance to leave early. I considered putting it off until the next day, but because I had planned on this day I pushed myself to go today. My expectations were not very high as the lows have been getting below freezing with frost at night, and I didn't think the moderate warm days were enough to increase the water temperature much (one reason why this day crept up on me fast). The area did receive a lot of rainfall during the day, so I figured that might increase the water temperature by a few degrees since the last day I fished. I headed toward the lake around 11:30am, and just before I arrived there - I spotted a group of turkeys out in a field... Can you talk to wild turkeys?... Because I Can. I arrived at the lake around 12:00pm, and was a bit surprised to see the lake had dropped about 2 ft (I figured if anything it would be high after all the rain and runoff)... When I checked the temperature and saw it was only 41 degrees, that told me they must be releasing a lot of water from the lake and the runoff being added to the lake is constantly keeping it cold. My equipment for today (which is very similar to my last trip as I was pressed for time). Seeing how the water is still 41F - I decided to start with the Blade Bait and Fish-Head Spin since they were already rigged up from my previous trip... The forecast predicted it to be mostly cloudy, but it turned out to be more overcast with a light very cold wind (frontal is a good word to describe the atmosphere). After an hour or more with no results I decided to switch baits, and try out the new Rapala Shadow Rap Shad. At first I was a little unsure how to work the bait, and I didn't know how it would respond to being twitched with the nose up profile. While testing it out in shallow water the bait seemed to respond very well... and had a nice nose up slow float to it. I counted that it took the bait around 3 seconds to change from a nose down profile while swimming to a nose up profile while paused. With the water still so cold... I planned to fish the Blade Bait and Jerkbait for most of the day. The Shadow Rap Shad also seemed to cast very well, allowing me to really bomb it out there. It has a nice darting action to it, and looks good in the water, I have high hopes for this bait when the water warms up. I fished the Blade Bait very slowly along the bottom, sometimes sweeping the rod and letting it fall, but still nothing... Later while fishing the Shadow Rap Shad, as I was about to cast it, my baitcaster's spool "free-spooled" on me causing a small backlash. (I'm not sure if it has a malfunction as this has happened a few times, or if I accidentally clicked the button without knowing because I was wearing gloves...) Anyway, on the very next cast after I cleared the backlash - the new Shadow Rap Shad went sailing in the wind... as the line had cut down in the spool. This is a problem I run into with Sufix Mono, if the line kinks badly from something like a backlash... it's only a matter of time until it will break at that spot. Luckily the Shadow Rap Shad floats... and I was able to recover it using the Blade Bait. It was now about 3:30pm, and I had just finished fishing the two baits through the entire marina... The wind was now starting to pick up a bit, and the day was was looking pretty gloomy. I decided to tie on the Wiggle Wart, and re-fish everything again to see if a bait change would help. While fishing with the Wiggle Wart for about an hour, I watched as the day completely changed from dark and frontal, to bright and mostly clear... I continued fishing for another half hour, and... Nada on the Wiggle Wart. It was now getting late and around 5:00pm, so I decided to call it a day. The drive home had a nice sunset, followed by a bit of rain... WolfyBrandon

I believe it, that blueish chartreuse looking color on the bottom of the bait looks amazing... I also liked the swimming action of it I seen in a review. Edit: Actually the second cutter from the bottom that I have is Chartreuse Shad, Chameleon Vapor is similar but with a darker back and solid chartreuse bottom. WolfyBrandon

Shadow Rap Shad
I just fished the Shadow Rap Shad yesterday in 41F water and didn't have that issue... Mine slow floated head up as advertised. I even counted that it took the bait ~3 sec for it to change from a head down profile (while swimming) to a head up profile (while paused). WolfyBrandon

Just like Mercer said, Christie didn't lose the tournament, Edwin won it. WolfyBrandon- 2016 Bassmaster Classic Grand Lake
Thing is, Christie mentioned in the press conference that doing something like what Edwin Evers has just done could take the classic away from him. Before Christie found out (looking at his weights for the past few days) I was wondering if he could catch enough to keep the lead. It's tough, but maybe it's for the better that he knows he really has to catch them. Luckily the information came early and he has time... Come on Christie, get that 5th fish! WolfyBrandon- 2016 Bassmaster Classic Grand Lake
Christie is still down a fish with head room, Christie has the right idea saying "I'm going to catch all I can catch", I'm just worried that he might be fishing too fast at the moment. WolfyBrandon- 2016 Bassmaster Classic Grand Lake
Christie didn't want know about BassTrakk, but someone decided to "Clue Him In".... Now Christie is fishing waaay faster... STOP FREAKING OUT!.... well Edwin does have 20+ LB so maybe freak out a little bit... WolfyBrandon- 2016 Bassmaster Classic Grand Lake

I just picked up two today... WolfyBrandon- WolfyBrandon's Fishing 2016 [Update: Day 5]
[ February 25, 2016 ] (Day 4) I planned to fish after the recent full moon on the 22nd, as I made some predictions on the moon phases early this year. The weather looked to be clear with high barometric pressure, warm, and two days from an approaching cold front. I arrived at the lake, and headed down to the docks around 11:00am. I checked the conditions to find the water clarity had improved to around ~2-3ft, but the water temperature had only increased by one degree in the past five days making it now 40F. Here is a look into my selected gear & baits for today... I started off fishing with both the Bitsy Jig, and Wiggle Wart. After about an hour fishing with the jig with no results, I decided to switch back to the 1/4oz Hair Jig - since the water was still very cold. I decided to stick with both the Wiggle Wart & Hair Jig for the first half of the day, and felt it was a good combination to fish areas with two very different presentations. When I arrived at the location where I was getting bites during my last fishing trip, I was still getting bites on the hair jig... so I tied on a small crappie jig that I had included in my day box to try and confirm the species of fish for my log. A few seconds later I had my answer... First catch of the year, a 7 & 5/8'', 04oz - Yellow Perch (Non-Target Species). It was a pre-spawn female full of eggs. After the release - I tied the hair jig back on, and continued fishing both baits up to around 2:30pm. With no results, I decided to switch baits... I tied on both a Blade Bait & Fish Head Spin - baits that I could fish slow along the bottom or even yo-yo to look like a dying bait fish. I fished the two baits for around 2 hours, but had no results. It was now past 4:30pm, and with the sun going down - I decided to call it a day. All in all, it was a good day... With bait fish starting to move shallow, and the water continuing to warm... the bass should soon follow. This will be my last trip for February, my next trip will be sometime early March. I need to mention that as much as I enjoy making these reports, it does take a lot of time to create... so if you enjoy them please leave a like so that I know. My schedule will getting more busy, and when the fishing season speeds up I may have to create smaller reports, or delay them due to lack of time. WolfyBrandon - 2016 Bassmaster Classic Grand Lake
