  1. I have never really fished a walk the dog style topwater. This technique is one that I have put on my goals for 09. However, every article I read talks about HOW to fish them, not WHEN to fish them. I want to wait and try it when I have the highest % of success so I can gain confidence. My question is if you could describe the most perfect situation WHEN to fish a spook, what would it be? When is it a better choice than a buzzbait or other topwater?
  2. Timber Tiger DC5 crank bait in Tennessee Shad color. So easy to bring these things through a nasty lay down without getting hung up a caveman could do it. Hard to find but no other bait provides the same numbers, size and FUN that these do
  3. I actually couldn't care less about the rattles. Numerous times I hear Horton talk about how he shaves 1/32 of an inch off the corners of his Fat Free Shads, does anyone know if this crankbait has that 1/32 shaved off. I can't really tell by the picture obviously.
  4. Just curious to see what you guys think. It seems to me people are extremely 1 way or the other on this
  5. Is this lure the lure that Horton is describing at the end of the 2nd link? If so, when would you guys use the rattles and when would you turn them off? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_102803_100005001_100000000_100005000_100-5-1 http://www.basszone.com/2008zlines/horton5.htm
  6. What is everyone's favorite followup bait for missed top water strikes and the like?
  7. Actually I have a funny story about "slow rolling" a buzzbait. My friend fished a team tourney with his dad who does not fish that much. His dad tied on and was fishing a buzzbait under the water and caught a 3.5 pounder to fill their limit.
  8. Anyone going to do this? I think I might, sounds pretty cool. I was bummed they got rid of co-anglers but this is it's replacement http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/elite/news/story?page=b_elites_marshal_program_20081106
  9. Hands down Timber Tiger DC5, hard to find but well worth it. I KNOW it will always come through where ever I throw it.
  10. Spinnerbaits. I feel like everyone is throwing them and I have never caught a BIG fish on one
  11. I have a tournament tomorow and went out for some prefishing today. I prefished Wed and did very well and I was excited to get on the water. Today when I got to the lake the whole lake was covered in a sort of green film, I mean the ENTIRE thing so I know it's not an algae bloom. I'm assuming the turnover happened in the 4 days I was off the water. Now I know what the turnover is but today I didn't catch 1 fish after almost 15 Wed. I didn't fish out my spots because I caught no more than 3 in any 1 area. My question is what is the best advice for fishing post lake turnover?
  12. Here's a response you most likely weren't expecting but maybe stay away from a versatile technique. Sometimes those are the hardest baits to gain confidence in. For example a jig took a lot of time for me to develop confidence in. I was always afraid that I was fishing it wrong. Even when I would catch a fish I would wonder if a diffrent presentation would work better and all that second guessing drains confidence. A crankbait now is more of a simple bait. Basically straight retrieve, or stop and go maybe some switch in retrieve speed. The crankbait is a lure that is both simple to use but versatile in catching fish.
  13. I wouldn't consider mydelf an expert but early this year I was at KY lake and a friend of mine who lives down there told me that guys were wacking them with spoons (before KVD used them in part to win down there) and I used them back home in Indiana with some good success. The key is structure with little cover (these baits get hung up extremly easy). A bend in the creekbed or a ledge is usually what I look for. The second key is baitfish, if you see shad on your graph relating to the structure then the spoon's got a chance. Basically throw over the structure and quickly rip the spoon off the bottom and let it flutter back down. Reel in the slack and rip again. You can really feel the bait vibrating. BTW I use the Strike King Sexy Spoon
  14. Worked: Timber Tiger Crankbait Shallow Fat Ika Football Head Jig Buzzbait Didn't Work: Spinnerbaits Senkos Jerkbait
  15. I get when fall is but how do you locate the schools of shad?
  16. How exactly do you go about doing that? What "signs" show you that a big group of shad is around?
  17. Timber Tigers! Timber Tigers! Timber Tigers! By far the best CB for shallow cover, especially the DC 5 model. If you don't own 1, you should. Check them out
  18. so are you fishing this around brush piles, laydowns, points, weed beds, out in deeper water?
  19. 1. Timber Tiger DC 5 Crankbait 2. Greenpumpkin Fat Ika 3. BPS Greenpumpkin Floating Tube 4. Football Jig 5. Tequila Runrise Ribbon Tail Worm
  20. Thanks for thie link, just moe proof the BR guys are the best in the world!
  21. Hey guys, I have a tournament on Saturday at Kentucky Lake. Any onfo would be appreciated. Are you guys in post spawn or early summer patterns? Baits (if you're willing to share )? just about anything i would take
  22. IDK if you have a Dick's around you but Strike King makes a spinnerbait (I think especially for Dick's) and they have a green and black spinnerbait with an orange head. The lake I usually fish has 3876459645964956 bluegills and this bait looks just like one and I love it.
  23. exactly, try to find a channel bend or ledge with cover that is shallower than 10 ft on top and deeper than 10 feet on bottom. This allows the fish to move inbetween the cool and warm water as well as have a place to ambush prey. Thermocline + structure + cover = tons of bass
  24. Anyone use a river2sea bottom walker? If so any luck, and how did you work it? My guess would this would be an awesome bait to use deep around rocks and legdes but idk. Thanks guys, the best info out there comes from this site.
  25. If you could only give 1 piece of advice to a beginner angler what would it be? or what is the best advice you ever recieved about bass fishing? It can be about a philsophy, tactic or anything else. Mine would be something my grandpa always told me, If you do what you did, you'll get what you got. This applies for scenerios when you are or are not catching fish and I always try to remember that.
