Anorexic bass in south GA river
I didn't grow up here so I'm trying to learn how to fish this south GA river. Very clear water most of the time, depth of 3-8 feet. Contents are LMB and Shoal bass. I've been told to go with a Smithwick Devil Horse above the shoals and a black work in it. I've tried it for 2 years---no luck. The only bass I catch here are blind. I'm looking for guidance on how to fish a relatively shallow clear water river for bass.

Are you more successful with plastics??
I'm going to play devil's advocate: KVD just won the Bassmaster classic in Orlando using a Red-eyed Rat-L trap shad. Jerking it through the weeds and letting it "flutter" downward. I think it all has to be what your confidence bait is.

Best Catfish bait?
You've got to admit. Sometimes, there's nothing better than a nice mess of catfish for supper. A couple weeks ago, I did pretty well with chicken livers. Yesterday, I decided to give Berkley's Blood bait a try--needless to say, we had chicken for supper. I've used chicken gizzards in the past with decent luck, but I think the livers are better. Any other ideas???

Alabama River Fishing
A buddy of mine and I were fishing the Flint River in south GA this past weekend and noticed the same thing. 1 out of 2 bass (largemouth) had the same symptoms you described. 1 also had larvae coming out of him. Keep us posted if you find out what's doing this. Thx

Baitcast question
Hang in there and keep practicing. I have used spincast for many many years (and trained my kids on them) but using a baitcast setup is much better. In essense, you only have a couple of knobs. Work with them in the yard until you don't have the backlash anymore. When you have that, you're ready for water. Be prepared to adjust "that knob" when you change lures that differ in weight by a good bit. Once you have this down, it'll all be ok.

GASOLINE
It's hovering around $3.90 around here. To save money on boat gas, I just bought another trolling motor for my small jon boat. We're floating down river this weekend. It'll take 5-7 hours to make the trip down river burning no gas and hopefully catching many bass
