  1. Hard to beat northland tackle slurpie grubs, swim shad, swim shiner. Also there mimic minnow is a great bait. Alot of single and double tail grubs are good too. Senko's also will get the job done.
  2. Walk the dog is making the bait walk across the surface in a zig zag pattern. Spooks do it almost on there own with a little practice.
  3. Only one way to find out but I think I'd figure out why I lost her 3 times before I tried again.
  4. I like spooks the regular sized one worked steady with a walking the dog retrieve. Also like number 11 or 13 original floater rapala cast it out let the surface calm down twitch it and real in the slack then twitch it again vary the time between twitches to find what the fish want. Devils horse and other prop baits are also good as are poppers.
  5. Thanks guys. I've used both the baits you guys said and they are very good for catching smallies but I want something a little more realistic for these really picky pig smallies. p.s Northland slurpies shad and shiner are also very good when fished like the mimic minnow and wildeye series of baits. Just not what I'm looking for here.
  6. Try and find an edge or hole in the weeds something different then fish with plastics slow. Spinner baits and jigs are also good baits to use.
  7. I'd try fishing it slow with soft plastics rigged texas and weightless. Surest way to catch fish other than livebait which might be an option for you.
  8. I fish a lake that is crystal clear and has some very large smallies in it. Be a fair bet to say the state record is swimming in there. Caught a smallie last year that was 8.7 pounds on the digi scale and (state record is 9) through that fish back too she swam off unharmed. That fish was caught on a 5 inch blue/black senko. I've seen 2 other fish that I'm pretty sure were bigger. Sometimes hard to tell size because lake is very deer and alot of the shoreline drops off very quickly so bigger ones are rarely seen in the few shallow places the lake has deep clear water through you off. My question is what swim baits would be good ones to try on these fish? I would like ones that aren't huge like the guys in cali use and 1 ounce or less too. Alot of blue gills and stocked trout in this lake. I've already been looking at a huddlebug and may purchase a couple to try. I'm not a rookie to bass fishing I've caught alot of smallie over 6 pounds but I want to take it to the next level and fish the biggest bass this trophy lake has to offer. Thanks in advanced.
  9. Senko, fluke, worm or whatever plastic you like rigged texas but weightless tossed on top of a pad then slowly pull off and let it fall to the bottom slowing working it back to you letting it sit alot.
  10. Senko or other good plastics rigged weedless and weightless casted onto a pad then slowy pulled off into a hole and worked back slowly. Watch your line for either steady pulls or a fast twitch put your rod tip down to give the fish more room then when it gets light again set the hook. Keep your rod tip high and tail walkem outta there. Or use a top water baits like a spook and work it slow in a hole in the pads or on the edge. When a bass hits a top water bait don't set the hook right away give it a little time to turn and swim with it then letem have it. One more productive things is find the edge or the pads and work it with spinnerbaits, crankbaits and plastics. Good luck.
