  1. Throws several different lures at the fish in a short fishing trip but still gets out fished by me throwing the same baits every time. It ain't the arrow its the indian.
  2. Wishes he could fish as good as me.
  3. I think a smallie is more likely to eat a bigger bait than the largemouth of equal weight. Alot of big smallies caught by guys throwing giant musky bait up here in the upper midwest. 5 inch senkos are awesome for smallies.
  4. Fat Ika, 5 inch senkos, trick worms, 6 inch curly tails worms, grubs, salmo hornet crankbait, and jigs. I tend to fish weightless plastics alot for smallies. Jig spinners added to grubs can be deadly also. Northland mimic minnows work good to with and without the spinner.
  5. 5 inch senko rigged weightless and weedless. Color dosen't matter as long as its dark and not to boring like plain black even though black works great.
  6. I think a guy can get by with a cheaper spinning reel more than a cheap casting real. I'm plenty happy with $50-$70 spinning reels doubt I would be with casting reels in that price range.
  7. Small grubs or tubes on a jighead. Usually add a jig spinner too.
  8. Muskie rod might be the best way to go. They are designed for heavy baits and heavy fish. Store brand might be the best way to go. I don't really care for gander mountain but they do make some good rods for under 100.
  9. First thing you need to do is try and find something a little different. Sunken tree, flats, rocky point or something. Doubt the whole lake is the same. When you find a good spot then use plastics and jigs. I fish a lake for smallmouth that is much deeper than that and also has very steep banks or none at all in most places. The key is to find the fish which means finding structure thats a little better than the rest of the lake.
  10. I agree with you there. One of the biggest reasons I don't use braid. Its a pain in the ***. Impossible to cut with my teeth without alot of chewing but rocks tear it up. :-/
  11. Haven't really noticed a difference in amount of fish caught with the different colors. I just buy salt water ones cause they got better hooks.
  12. 7 or 7.5 foot mh casting rod with a good fast action.
  13. I've only had mine for about 4 days but so far it seems very good really no comparison to my older green curados it outcasts them easily and I'm not really used to it yet. I have the 7.1 domestic version. Have it on a gander mountain ultimate titanium 7.5 foot mh (very good rod for the money). Since I haven't had it long I haven't throwing much with it mostly weightless plastics like senkos, and Fat Ikas. It will throw weightless zoom trick worms plenty good for me too. Even with 15 pound cxx and a mh rod. Probably caught around 50 bass on it some around 5 pounds and it handled them all nicely.
  14. Senko or some other plastic you've got confidence in rigged weightless and weedless fished on the edge of the slop.
  15. I fish one very deep cold and clear lake and the sandy areas have a lot of bait fish swimming around them.
  16. heres what I'd take 1 medium light or medium spinning with 6 or 8 pline cxx 1 medium heavy bait caster with 14 or 17 pline cxx 1 musky rod with 65 braid That would do everything I'd need.
  17. I think a guy should pay more attention to how he fished the worm than the kind he is throwing. Any plastic work rigged weightless will work as long as it falls slowly. Thats what driving bass wild. Learn to fish it slow giving it time to sit after sinking to the bottom and make good accurate cast tight to cover where the bass hang and you'll catch them. My favorite for weightless is a senko cause I love the way they cast and they just plain catch fish but zoom, manns, and culprit are 3 companies I also have alot of success with.
  18. First one looks more like the average smallies I catch. Second is lighter in color than most but I have caught some that light too. Either of them look great.
  19. superspook is my fav.
  20. You've fished it once this whole year for about 5 cast and didn't catch a thing you joker. I would agree though its a good one but I've caught fish on them. ;D Super spook is my favorite though cause its super fun to fish and catch alot of fish not as good as plastics but its a ton of fun.
  21. Grub on a lead head. Cast it out let it sink for awhile then slowly bring it in either a steady relieve or jigging it back. That will work in about every depth of water you'll find smallies plus a bunch of other fish can be caught doing that too. A bonus walleye is always welcomed on the table.
  22. I don't fish much different in muddy water than when the waters normal. Only difference is if water is high in a river current tends to be stronger so adjustments need to be made. If your talking lakes I don't fish much different. Smallies love nasty weather. Waves crashing into rocky shores with deep water close can be explosive action.
  23. Heres 5 baits I would be happy throwing none of them are much better than the others. So in no real order it would be. I'm not really convinced that smaller baits are the way to go most times for smallies. 1. single colorado blade spinnerbait in any color 2. 5 inch Senko in any darker color rigged weedless and weightless 3. 3-5 inch grub with a jig head again any darker color 4. number 11 or 13 rapala orig. floater, can be worked below surface or twitched on top. Any color will work. 5. Super spook its killer walked on the surface. Any color
