  1. I have never had much luck with jig fishing. Caught a real nice LM on a KVD swim jig with a trailer, but that's about it. I was wondering what brand, model, etc of jig does everyone seem to have the most luck with?? Black/blue and green pumpkin are about the only colors i have jigs, so i'm just curious what actual model jigs everyone uses? Send links, pictures, ideas, etc!
  2. Last night the air was pretty chilly but the water was a lot warmer than the air, so there was a fog on top of the water. In these conditions, what's the best baits to throw? Baits that stay on the top, shallow on the bank or deeper on the bottom??
  3. yeah the rod tubes are nice, but i DEF don't want to disassemble my rods everytime. It's not for travel, just storage which is why I looked at the $100 case
  4. Sounds like we do have the same one because yes it is VERY flimsy and akward to carry, etc. Yeah, this hard case/holder I'm looking at holds up to 4 assembled rods. I don't forsee myself having more than that in the near future but who knows when that will change! It extends to up to 80" I think, but i'd have to look again to be sure. i don't really think i'd ever get a rod bigger than 7'. I saw and looked at a bunch of the rod tubes, but they're $60+ and i don't think the reel fits in them like you said. Does anyone have or tried this case???...Buehler...anyone!!
  5. mainly anything that stays on the hook, but a top water is the best. Personally i like when they hit a popper!
  6. I usually take 2-3 rods with me when I head out now. 6'6" spinning, 6'6" casting and a 6'8" casting. I carry my rods in the 6'5" bed of my truck and with the money i've spent on the rods/reels, i need a nice carrier/protector. I bought the big soft case from BPS, but the size isn't adjustable so it's way too big and akward. I have a $20 off coupon of a purchase $100 or more for BPS that expires tomorrow and I was looking at this case/holder: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_61230_100004000_100000000_100004000_100-4-0 it's $100, but it's a hard case and looks nice. I'm a little hesitant to spend that much for a holder, but if it's nice and works, then so be in. Since they pretty much stay in the bed of my truck (covered) i'd like something that works! Please let me know if anyone has seen this or used this one so I can make up my mind before the days over!! :-/
  7. I have a Shimano Crucial and Cumara. Crucial for spinning gear, cumara for casting. If you want the split handle, go for the cumara. I just got one recently, but love it!
  8. Has anyone used or tried P-line CXX?? I just spooled one of my baitcasters with it and took off the BPS XPS Flourocarbon, but I've only been out once so far with it. So far it felt pretty good, I should get a better feel this weekend. On my new baitcaster, I spooled it with PowerPro 50# braid and had a horrible experience on Sunday. Birds nest every other cast. It's the first time I tried braid on a baitcaster and I wasn't at all impressed so far. I have the same line on my spinning reel and love it. Plus the mono casted about 20-30' further than the braid on the casting reels. Has anyone else exprienced this with braid on their baitcasters? Might swap it out for mono if it doesn't improve.... :-/
  9. Well I took my new setup to a pond down the street today just to see how it casted, felt, etc...I have 50lb PowerPro braided line on it. I'd say in 20 total casts, I had at least 5-7 birds' nests! In the past I've only used braided line on spinning reels and stuck with mono on my casting reels. Does anyone else find it a lot harder to cast braided line vs. mono on a casting reel? I'll try it out one more time but if it continues, then I'll probably have it re-strung with mono... :-/
  10. Well after a month of researching, I ended up getting a Shimano Chronarch 100D7 and a Shimano Cumara 6'8" casting rod. Spent a little more than I was planning, but hopefully it'll pay off! Haven't used it yet, but will this week!
  11. I had the same question last year and went with a Shimano Stradic 3000 and couldn't be happier!
  12. I appreciate all the helpful info/advice. I'll still continue to shop around and see what people think. I did see where the JM Gold Series reel was named an award winner and a Great Buy in the 2009 "Outdoor Life" Magazine. Not that that means there aren't better ones, but just something to take into consideration
  13. I went there today actually for the first time. Was forced to leave after an hour or so due to the pouring rain. I was fishing from the bank and only landed one small LM. Had about 4-5 strike though, just never took the bait. Any idea of where some of the better spots are from the banks? I'm thinking about heading there on a weekend and renting a canoe to reach more spots...
  14. Right now I have the BPS Johnny Signature Series Baitcaster which is about $179. I have been in the store a few times recently and I was looking at/considering the new new Johnny Morris Gold Series Baitcaster which is on sale from $279 to $229. 11 bearing, 6:4.1, new handles, etc...Just wondering if anyone has or has used this new reel and if so what they thought of it. Do you think there'd be a noticeable difference between the two reels?? I do 95% of my fishing from the bank, so casting distance is very a very important factor to me. Do you think a Daiwa, Abu Garcia, etc would cast better/further? Any info is appreciated!
  15. I just spooled 10 lb. Power Pro on my 2500 spinning reel. Is it ok to spray the braided line with the KVD Line Conditioner or is that best for Mono/Flourocarbon lines? Also; how does the braided line hold up on casting reels compared to flourocarbon? Any advan/disadvantages?
  16. I've had more luck recently with the strike king series 4 "sexy shad" crankbait than anything!
