I think that is a personal decision, I have no reason to judge someone for what they choose to wear.

For a cheap fix get some velcro and bubble wrap. Velcro the bubble wrap to the inside of your well. You might have to experment a little sometimes making things stick to aluminum can be tough. You could always bubble wrap the fish instead. ;D

On some boats it is under the rubrail like the other poster said, and you have to remove it to find it.

There is actually plastic welding. I had that type of boat repaired once by someone who did it. You might check your local yellow pages.
