Tournament shirts

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else get tickled at guys wearing tournament shirts advertising the brand of boat they are running when they are not sponsored by the boat company?  I have a neighbor who wears his expensive Ranger tournament shirts every time he goes fishing, but he receives nothing from Ranger for the free advertising.

Maybe I ought to get a Bass Tracker tournament shirt.  ::)

Its really no different than putting on any other shirt that may have a logo or name on it. If you like Nike, put on a nike shirt, if you like ranger put on a ranger shirt. Some of the touney shirts are comfortable and cool to wear in the summer and that might be a reason to them versus a plain t-shirt. Sometimes tourney shirts are free, should they just be trashed then? Dress in what you like and fish and let others do the same, there just clothes.

Ole,

I agree.

But remember that if you are sponsored you are supposed to wear your shirt with the name of your sponsors on it when you go fishing or to fishing events.

My friend is a retired guide but he still gets discounts from Pure Fishing and when I take a photo of him with his fish he has to put on his red and white fishing shirt with the Berkley and Pure Fishing logos on it.

He then takes it off.

He sends the photo to Pure Fishing so he can continue to get the discounts on their products.

So don't be too hard on these guys. They are doing what they are supposed to do.

After all, do you want them to wear a shirt that says "Winners Wear Bike"????  ;D

olebiker,

I understand where you are coming from, but there is another angle. If you are fishing a tournament and you want contingency money, then you have to meet certain requirements. One of which is to wear that particular boat company's shirt, hat, etc. The Triton Gold and Ranger Cup programs are two of the biggest and I am pretty sure that they both require the logo usage aspect. I know for Triton you even have to have a certain sticker on your tow vehicle.

So while it is sometimes viewed as silly for someone to where a boat company shirt without any sponsorship deal, they can actually get paid for it.

I can understand a guy wearing a tournament shirt with a manufacturer's name on it if he is trying to win contingency money or even if the dealer gave him the shirt when he bought the boat.  The ones that I think are silly are the guys who go out and spend $80 - $100 on a manufacturer's shirt.

Like the Harley guys buying shirts, I have a Road King but no shirts, I am still waiting for a sponsor to buy me my parts and clothes.  I like the Columbia *** myself nice and cool.

I think that is a personal decision, I have no reason to judge someone for what they choose to wear.

Spending $80 - $100 for a shirt just to go fishing - yeah that is pretty silly -- why I have even heard of guys spending up to $40,000 for a boat just to fish out of  ::)

Why does this bother you?

Because they are pretending to be something they are not: a sponsored professional.

I would love to have one, but I haven't been a medium in about 25 years.

Every thing you wear has company LOGO on it; Olebiker I see a logo on your hat so are we to assume they pay you to advertize for them?

If you are referring to my avatar, that's my Dad in his BASS cap.  It came with his membership.

I do wear a Sonny's BarBQue cap that I got free, and a Falcon rods cap that I got free.  The only other thing in my wardrobe with a visible logo are my New Balance shoes.  I don't think that anyone would mistake me for a New Blanace sponsored athlete.  ::)

I like many other out there may be proud of what they work for and like to show pride in somethings whatever it may be. I can not see how this would bother you and its great for the people selling a product. I do however think wearing a logo you do not even use is just wrong

Yep I have to wear my Triton shirt, cap and a big Triton sticker on the back of my vehicle to get the contingency money if I win. You can win an extra 1000 to 10,000 for this advertisement, So I look real purrdy when I fish a tournament.

That was the largest bass he ever caught.  He released it.

If you wear jeans there is a certain emblem on the back pocket which is in fact logo

These types of post are much to do about nothing, I like the New Orleans Saint & the LSU Tigers, I wear thier Logo proudly. I'm also a Cajun so I wear Cajun Logo proudly.

I see nothing wrong with backing what you like be it tournament shirts or Wrangler Jeans  ;)

For better or worse we all make snap judgements about people. When I see a guy in a Ranger tournament shirt at the ramp my first thought is usually Check out this hotshotI hope he forgets to put his plug in.

I'm a jerk that way.

If I took the time to get to know him, I would probably change my opinion.

Since the man in question is Olebiker's neighbor, and they share an interest in bass fishing, I'm guessing he's already gotten to know him and he is, in fact, a hotshot in a Ranger shirt.

Therefore, I'm choosing to side with Olebiker on this one and will silently pray that Hotshot Ranger Guy forgets to put his plug in.

;)

I dunno, kinda silly to wear a ranger shirt EVERY TIME fishing.  But than again if your loyal to the brand and it makes you look good go ahead and wear it.  I like my Yamaha jersey and they don't sponsor me.  I wear it because it came w/ my outboard when I repowered my boat and its quite comfortable.

I have no problem with anyone wearing anything they like.

Fishing is suppose to be a fun experience. If wearing the clothing makes you feel better and more enjoyment is achieved, so be it.

I do wear an American Rodsmiths cap because I know one of their salesmen and he gave four rods to me, and the cap.

I wear my club shirt when fishing club tournaments, or my Skeeter shirt and jacket that came with the boat.

I have a closet full of fishing apparal that has been won or given to me over the years that I do not wear at all.

One thing I will not do though is wear a tournament shirt with product logos that I do not use.
