Advice on lights, wiring?
I'm ready to begin putting in lights in my boat, I bought 3 nice bright led lights and 2 larger lights. I also bought 2- 12volt recepticals/plug ins for spot lights. I went to radio shack and bought 2 toggle switches and basically want to wire everything onto these 2 toggle switches. Can all these be spliced together to go to the 2 switches and then to the battery? Do I need fuses? Any help on this from anyone would be great. FIRST BOAT/ FIRST LIGHT WIRING JOB. Thanks D.

rear storage deck
Yo NorthTexasfishmaniac! It aint the prettiest, but it works! I forgot to add on my previous post, - buy some Thompsons water seal (I got a gallon of it for 8-9 $) The stuff looks like, and brushes on like milk-easy. Brush it on every piece of wood- 2 coats- dries fast! Any bracing wood in the back storage, I even wrapped in duct tape for extra protection from my 6 hp possibly splashing, no one can see it any way. Hope these pics helped! D.

12' semi v
No, I only made the rear storage higher so I could fit my battery box inside, the seat pedestals are maybe an inch higher than the tank seats. Decking will go on the floor this week.

12' semi v
No problem! I went to Lowes and simply bought some small "L" brackets and some 2"x2"x8' wood, a large sheet of 3/8" plywood, some 2" screws, carpet, outdoor carpet glue. Buy the small peanut butter size carpet glue- a little goes a long way! I'm still in the middle of decking my boat and havent used a whole lot, spread it thin. I made three braces like squares, I made them tall enough for my gas tank to fit on one side and my battery box on the other. I simply screwed the brace into the back of the bench, then into the transom wood (make sure the screws that screw into the transom wood are short enough that they dont go through the back of your boat, just enough to attach into the wood!) Cut your top to fit, glue the carpet and I recommend staples for the under side of your carpet on the wood to hold along with the glue. The back piece I cut to fit and screwed it into the bracing, found some cabinet hinges (3) and attached them, and hey- you got yourself a storage area in the back! I'll try to post some pics later tonight, I looked pretty much looked at every "v" hull mod on this site and picked what ideas worked best for me.

Choice in seat pedestals?
My 12' v hull mod is finally in the home stretch, I debated on the permanent black heavy duty seat pedestals, but opted for the more expensive skinny pole in the hole pedestals, which I see in the majority of most photos here. I'm 6' 275 lbs. will these pedestals hold up alright for us big guys? Also if anyone could explain how I could post pics of my boat on this website? Much appreciated!

6 hp johnson
Got a question if anyone can help, I've been modding a 12' v hull, got it painted, wired with lights, started on the decking and seats-almost done. I bought the boat off of an older guy, the boat and trailer are in excellent shape, the day I took it home he put the motor down into a trash can filled with water and started it up. He adjusted the "lean and rich" knobs until it just purred perfectly. I did the same tonight, but I seemed to get alot of smoke on fast idle, there's an orange knob that screws in and out inside the "lean and rich" dial, what exactly does this orange knob do? I figured maybe air intake? Is this smoke normal just sitting in the back yard running? The boat is a 65 so I imagine the 6hp Johnson is just as old, the motor was maintenanced last fall, I have the paperwork. My First boat. Thanks

uneven paint
I'm gonna try putting a few more coats on using your end to end method, if it still looks splotchy or uneven-forget it, its getting rolled! I just want to get the wiring, lights, decking and carpet done, so I can finally get on the lake! Thanks for the tip bro! D.

uneven paint
I just sanded my boat down to the aluminum pretty much, I started spray painting and put on the first coat of paint and it seems "patchy" looking, uneven. Do I just need more coats to make it look even? Any suggestions would help! Thanks. D.

Newbie needs advice and pics for 12' V modification.
Thanks for the info guy! Yea I've researched everywhere, and pretty much will go ahead and follow a computer graphic layout someone did for another member on this site with a 12' v hull. I like this boat because its sort of a flat bottom v. I guess you would call it a semi-v hull? Its very wide and flat, and thats why it caught my eye, plus the price was awesome. An older retired cop had it in his front yard, boat in excellent shape (can't find one ding on it) 6 hp. Johnson outboard which he had papers of servicing every year, and a trailer with a little surface rust for $500. All I really was looking for was a boat and trailer, I have two trolling motors already, so the gas motor was a nice plus! I bought 2 swivel seats and 2 small 7" pedestals yesterday, I'm going to Pick up wood, glue, and carpet tommorow, Tonight my younger brother and I SAND! Hopefully by the end of this Memorial Day weekend, the trailer and boat will both be sanded, primed and painted! I guess I got the "boat mod fever", (driving the fiance nuts!) Anyway can't wait to hit the local lakes here in Northeastern Ohio! Thanks for the help, D.

Newbie needs advice and pics for 12' V modification.
Thanks for the info! Man I can't wait to see your 12' pics so I can get some ideas for mine. This is my first boat ever, and I don't know where to start, weight limitations? ect.. When you say don't remove the "foam" is that considered benches? Cause alot of websites suggest removing the benches to put a carpeted floor in with pedestal seats and storage.

Newbie needs advice and pics for 12' V modification.
Hey fellas! Got tired of fishing from shore and bought my first boat, its an older 12' V hull with trailer and 6 hp. johnson o/b. I love looking at all the mods done on the site, and was looking for some advice on how to mod my boat. Mount seats on benches with small pedestals? Mount seats on floor with pedestals? Take out benches? I would love to see some pics of 12' V hull mods and any advice to get me started. Thanks!
