Boat Wiring Questions
Its all good...I was pretty irritated at first because I had turned here for advice about a couple wires and only got criticism. No hard feelings though. The main thing I was trying to determine was whether my temp sensor, which was originally wired to a buzzer, would also send the proper signal for a temp gauge. I decided that was doubtful so I went back to the buzzer rather than a gauge. The other concern was over my tach and what to use as the send wire, the one marked "tach" or the one marked "generator". The tach was originally wired to the one marked "generator" so I've gone that route. If that doesn't work its a 2 minute job to switch the connections inside the reomote control. I traced them back the other day and I think the one marked "generator" came off the voltage regulator, I don't remember where the one marked "tach" ran to. Anyway, all the accessories and switches are working and I'll do a barrell test on the motor this weekend after I replace the water pump impeller, change spark plugs, and change the LU oil. I'll know then if the tach works.

Boat Wiring Questions
Well thanks for your insults. I have taken everything into my own hands and done very well considering I had no real responses from 3 seperate forums I posted on. May main confusion was over the generator wire and the tach wire, but I figured it out. Everything is connected and working fine, and yes the buzzer is back in the system. Thanks anyway...maybe I wasn't in over my head afterall.

Boat Wiring Questions
I am trying to rewire the gauges and switches to a 1978 BassCat with about a 1977 Chrsyler 115hp Charger motor ((model #1159H8B). I managed to get the pumps, lights, and switches running fine (all very simple), I have numerous questions relating to the gauges though, primarily the tachometer, temp gauge, and key ignition posts. First off let me share what I have labeled on the motor's terminal block, the key ignition's posts, and wiring on the tach gauge: Motor Terminal Yellow (Start) Purple (Generator) White (Tachometer) Green (Choke) Orange (Heat) Red (Battery +) Blue (Ignition) Black (Ground -) Key Ignition Posts M, I, M, S, C, B Tachomter Gauge Wires Purple Black Gray Blue There was originally a buzzer attached to the orange wire from the motor which I thought was strange because I assumed the orange (Heat) would be a temp gauge send wire. I ended up cutting that buzzer completely out and using the orange wire to the send on my temp gauge, not sure if I was right?? I believe the tach was somehow wired into the buzzer, but now I can't remember how it was done. Something else I found odd was that the tach was wired to the purple (generator) wire from the motor. I ended up disconnecting that and taking the purple wire from the tach gauge to the ignition post, connecting the black wire from the tach gauge to the black (ground -) wire from the motor, connecting the gray wire from the tach gauge to the white (tachomter) wire from the motor, and linking the blue wire from the tach gauge to other wires feeding gauge lights. I don't think I have done this correct because now I have the purple (generator) wire from the motor going to nothing and the buzzer is no longer in the system. I could use some help. What is the buzzer for and how should it be wired in? How should the tach gauge be wired in? How should I have the key ignition wired? Currently I have nothing going to the M posts on the key ignition, the red (battery +) going to the B post, the green (Choke) going to the C post, the yellow (start) going to the S post, the blue (ignition) going to the I post, and the feed to my fuse box for my accessories going to the I post. I would really appreciate some help so I can get through this project and test her out. I got a lot done this weekend, but I ran into some ro***s of confusion there at the end.

Need help rewiring boat
I called them already. They said they don't have diagrams for that old of models, but they were nice enough to offer help walking me through it over the phone if I run into problems. The ignition however, is part of the motor which is an old Chrysler 115HP outboard and I can't find much info on the wiring of it.

Need help rewiring boat
I finally found a well done schematic which is legible. It actually has much more on it than most bass boats need, but it will work well for the rewiring job. Here's the link if anyone else is interested: http://www.stingrayboats.com/products/pdf/wiring/240CS_dc_wiring_dual_battery.pdf I have one other question though. Most diagrams I've seen show an ignition with 4 posts. Mine has 6. Anyone know what each post should operate? I was thinking start, ignition, accessory, and then I'm not sure what else.

how does your livewell drain?
My Bass Cat's livewell has 2 plugs in the bottom. One drains into the back and the bilge pump evacuates the water. The other drains straight out the back of the boat when it is out of the water.

Need help rewiring boat
Yeah, I can read a schematic and I'm fairly handy with DIY projects. I don't think that I'll have a problem following a plan, I just don't feel comfortable trying to draw it up myslef.

Need help rewiring boat
I bought my first boat, 1978 Bass Cat, and its needs rewiring. I don't know a whole lot about electrical wiring so I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with drawing up a diagram to follow. Here are the items on the boat: Bilge Pump Aerator Livewell fill pump fuel gauge speedometer tachometer temp gauge voltage meter Ignition bow light stern light 24 volt trolling motor tilting control for raising and lowering motor Many of the wires have spllices so I definately need to rewire. Most of them are disconnected too so I can't just trace them back one at a time and replace them. I have 3 new marine batteries to work with and I'm running a 1977 Chysler 115hp outboard. The wiring harness coming off of the motor looks good and the terminal block on the motor is labeled as to what each spot controls, I just have no idea how to bring everything in from the motor to the batteries and ingition then on to the switches and gauges. I expected to need a switch for the pumps, aerator, and light and possibly inline fuses for each. Does anyone here the know how and time to generate a diagram for me? It would be a life saver! I've seen various diagrams online and the one that actually appears most useful is very blurry so I can't seem to make out what is going on.

Replacing water pump impellar?
I'm pretty comfortable with the process now...I looked more at the manual and I won't have to get into the gear housing at all, the water pump sets on top of the upper gear case cover. There's only a couple seals and 1 gasket. Ordering them tomorrow.

Replacing water pump impellar?
Got a 78 Chrysler 115hp and about the change out the impellar. Never worked on a boat motor before so i bought the service manual. I'm a little nervous since I'll have to drop lower unit and go so deep into motor to get to water pump. Anyone got any tips for a first timer? Also, I know I'll have to replace any gaskets on my way up to the water pump, but what about seals? According to the manual there are seals and gaskets. I'm assuming the seals are rubber and may be reused if in decent shape while the gaskets are certainly paper and will be destroyed in the process. Any ideas on what all gaskets and seals to be prepared to replace in this project?

Recarpeting my boat
I am in the process of recarteping now and I bought the glue from lowes, it was like $13 for a gallon. Make sure you read the instructions because there are several types and only one is recommended for fiberglass or metal applications. I've never heard to the 3M spray, I may have to go to Lowes and check it out as I havn't started gluing yet, I've just finished all the cutting yesterday.

Used outboard maintenance
Thanks for the advice. I have the service manual now so I can look up the fuel mix ratio. Unfortunately the manual did not include a parts list with part numbers so I've ordered that seperately today. I want to make sure I order the correct impellar and apparently all the gaskets for the lower unit up to the water pump since you have to drop all of that to change the impellar. I also need that part list to locate part numbers for the prop nuts and pins and everything that goes on after the prop. I've been having difficulty locating all of that online so hopefully if I have the part number I'll have more luck. The boat came without a prop or any of the mounting.

Used outboard maintenance
I just bought my first boat, it has an old 1978 Chrysler 115hp outboard. I have seen the motor run, but I did not get to take it out on the water because it had no prop. I now have a prop and I have a manual on its way that I found online so I just need to know what all maintenance should be done to a motor that hasn't been in the water in several years. I'm sure the lower unit oil needs changing and I figured the water pump and plugs probably should be changed, but what other things would be recommended to be changed before taking it out for the first time?

79 Chrysler 115hp 18 Spline
That's the motor I have, I'm trying to find a prop nut for it. I had a heck of a time finding the prop since the aftermarket production has been discontinued. Got lucky and found two on e-bay for only $40 with shipping. I just need to try to locate the proper prop nut for the propeller shaft. I'm hesitant to fabricate a replacement and mess it up.
