  1. Dang, I thought you had tried it and were giving a review. I am curious about this line too because all of the other Lake Fork products I have tried have been great.
  2. Thanks guys. Hammer, yeah I mean could I just use a 200 size Curado or should I use a 301 like you? pgersumky, as long as I have enough line and the right gear ratio I'm good right? This will be just for bass fishing.
  3. I have been bitten by the swimbait bug and I'm in the process of getting properly equipped. I plan to throw mostly small swimbaits, and the only "heavy" thing I will end up throwing is the Mattlures Hardbass. That bait was just too beautiful to pass up. Everything else I'm planning on throwing will be in the 1-3 oz range, so do I really need a big reel for this? I understand that most guys use thicker line for this so line capacity is an issue but the way I see it, for the type of fishing I'm going to do, I won't need much more than a hundred yards of "thicker" line. Also if you guys have any suggestions for casting reels that would be perfect for this I'm all ears...
  4. Well Fat G you picked two fine rods and they would both do fine for what you intend to use them for. But I would go with the Dobyns over the Mossyback. Dobyns rods just "feel" better to me than Mossybacks. Plus the warranty is a lot better then loomis now. If you can get your hands on both do it so you can draw your own conclusions. Otherwise Dobyns.
  5. Another vote for the BBZ. It caught me my PB in my home state. It is also excellent for the beginner because of the low price and you would really have to try hard to fish it wrong! Just pick the biggest size BBZ that your current gear can handle.
  6. Yea man it sounds like the real deal. I might have to pick an NRX up. Especially now that I know about the Wildcard warranty. Really when you think about it, as long as you don't break the NRX more than twice, you are getting the same warranty! Free the first time, 100 the second time = 50$ each. And the bottom line is if you break it more than twice the rod sucks!
  7. I believe what you're saying but you need to realize that the Daiwa Samurai Braid is ridiculously thin. Its almost too thin really. The "measurements" on the box are completely off and when I buy it I always buy a much higher lb test to compensate for that. Also thinner isn't necessarily better. As you know, for casting gear you "need" a certain amount of thickness. Anyway I'm sure its quality stuff. Let us know when you actually fish it. I'm interested in how it handles, though I've never had tip wrap problems with daiwa samurai.
  8. Is cortland smooth to the touch like Daiwa Samurai? Would it make noise in recoil guides? The samurai is silky smooth and casts ridiculously far and makes no noise. I'm using on spinning gear and I love it.
  9. Very soon actually. Sometime in September last I heard. They are going to be sweet!
  10. Glad to hear you like them. One point I was really interested in was how much MORE sensitive the NRX's are than the GLX's. Perhaps tomorrow you can dust off your old GLX and fish them side by side? :-?
  11. Yeah they really do. This would be the fifth one I've found. And its not like these are small insignificant typos either. These are the kind of typos that could cause you to make the wrong purchase. Very strange for such a good tackle site.
  12. Ahh I see. Thanks for clearing that up Bassclary. I was wondering why there was such a huge gap in lure weights for those swimbait rods. Tackle Warehouse isn't the only site that lists the lure weights wrong either. I hope it truly is a typo. :-?
  13. Yes there are a few rods that are lighter inch for inch, but honestly who cares? IMO once you reach a certain level of lightness and balance it doesn't matter anymore. Its all about how they FISH! Let us know when you fish them SJB.
  14. It is my understanding that the threadfin shad color turned into the "Natural Shad" color before they were mass produced. They also took off the little thread that used to be hanging off of the dorsal fin as well.
  15. I have a 7' M Fast LTB and it is definitely not tip heavy with or without a reel. For god sakes the entire rod weighs 3.5oz. Its balanced absolutely perfectly with a reel around 8oz. It is one of the most versatile and pleasurable rods I have ever fished.
  16. I researched the Carrot because the 7'6 seemed great for what I wanted. I found COUNTLESS reviews of people who had broken them on hooksets of 2lb bass. My friend bought one from Cabela's a couple weeks ago and it broke on the 5th CAST. He didn't abuse it it any way. He didn't even get to set the hook let alone catch a fish. A thread was started not too long ago on Carrot stix because they were on sale. Several members again pointed out that they have broken these rods. I'm pretty sure that many people didn't "abuse" their Carrots. I really wanted to get one Speedbead, but there are way to many people who have had problems with them recently. Most of these problems seem to be happening within the last two years. Perhaps they don't make 'em like they used to.
  17. Did you see this one? :-? Model#: 765 CB/SBR - In Stock! Length: 7'6" - Power: Medium Heavy - Power Rating: 5 Line Wt: 10lbs. - 17lbs. - Lure Wt: 1/4oz. - 3oz. - Action: Mod-Fast - Handle: 2 No I didn't see that one thank you for pointing that out. Is that on Tackle Warehouse? Hammer, the Okuma Guide Select has always been in the back of my mind, and if I can't find something better for a better price I probably will end up getting the 7'6 MH. I'm on ebay everyday checking for deals!
  18. Carrot Stix snap like twigs. The Powell swimbait rod lure ratings make no sense for the range in which I intend to use them. The Crucial Swimbait rod looks ok, but I need to find a deal on it. I never was a fan of paying retail.
  19. So I have been getting into some small swimbaiting lately and I need to find a decent rod for it. Realistically I probably wouldn't throw anything over 5oz. Mostly under 4 oz. I just can't justify spending 200+ on a swimbait rod. I just don't feel that I need a super sensitive or even super light rod to chuck swimbaits. The fish are hitting what I'm throwing like a ton of bricks. I don't want it to be too heavy though. So far I've researched the Okuma Big Bait rod, the Mojo Swimbait rod, the All Star ASR908C, and a few others I wasn't too impressed with. It would also be nice if this rod could be versatile and not only usable for swimbaits... Does anyone have input on the rods I have suggested or maybe a rod I haven't seen yet? :-?
  20. Nice Hammer you got the same one I have. It will Balance well with your heavy Stradic . If you were looking for a spinning rod with BALLS you just found it!
  21. The BBZ is nasty. Honestly I can't believe anyone who has given them a fair shake doesn't like them! Just look at the monsters I catch on them! ;D That pic is just a joke but I also caught two 4lbers a 5lber and a 6 on that same day with the BBZ.
  22. Yea I've been using that knot for years now. It probably is the "best" option if your rod has Micro guides, however you will still have trouble if the two lines you are tying together are too thick. So you are still somewhat limited to certain diameters of line with micro guides.
  23. Yep Ebay rules 99.99$ shipped, great value.
