  1. I would believe it, there are some decent fish in there. Here is the picture of a nice one my friend pulled out of there.
  2. So I guess G. Loomis is the way to go for more high quality rods? Those reels are nice...it will be a hard choice. Thanks for all the help!

  4. Also a good tip. Buy some time of tethers/bungee cords to tie your gear down incase you do happen to flip over, don't want to lose all your gear. And a good idea to tether your life preserver down if you don't wear it, don't want to tip over and lose that. Seen it happen.
  5. A fellow Virginian kayaker! I belong to a fishing club on the James River and I own a native kayak for the smallies on the river. I use a anchor that is attached to this pulley like rope on the side of my kayak so I can achor up and slide the anchor rope up and down the kayak for differant angles. Also have a paddle holder, no leash, kind of annoying when your trying to fish to have to tie the paddle to yourself. Also, I use a drift sock on my kayak for a slower drift so I don't have to paddle up the river as often. Also have a rod holder. http://www.paddleva.com/richmond/index.htm is where I got everything.
  6. My birthday is coming up and my dad said he would take me to Green Top to choose a new casting reel and rod. I use older gear that has been handed down to me and I was wondering what you all with more experience with newer tackle would suggest for a nice 7' rod and reel mostly for jigging and plastics.
  7. Yeah, the only way to make him stop is to explain to him what catch and release does, but there is nothing wrong with keeping a fish to eat.
  8. That's crazy. Same thing happened to me when I was down in Florida fishing with my dad and two waterspouts formed...kind of scary, but was a very cool sight.
  9. Gary Yamamoto. Close though...haha.
  10. Wish I could help, but it's been a good amount of time since I've used one of those rods.
  11. Do you have the manual? Probably somewhere in there.
  12. Thanks guys! I'll have to look around....hope Orvis still has their 24 flys for 12 bucks.
  13. Ouch, how did he manage to run over his rods?
  14. Personally, in those conditions I like to throw a bait with some flash, like worms that have glitter on them so it reflects as much sunlight as possible. Other than that, I try to use baits that make noise with rattles and such.
  15. Yeah, I've been fishing there for a year and have never been told to leave once. Went there to day caught a couple of solid 3's.
  16. I have recently started taking the fly rod out and fish for bass and was wondering what you experienced folk use fly wise for bass.
  17. Go out in the backyard and practice your cast! Better then nothing.
  18. No, you just can't fish on the golf course but there are plenty of places to fish from the other side. You know your in the right place if you see houses that look like castles.
  19. I heard they got robbed for like 36 handguns, is this true?
  20. I live in that area and have fished the lakes. They have small bass, nothing spectacular. If you drive down the rode into Wyndam and fish the lake at the Dominion Club, there are big bass and catfish. My friend pulled a 9 pounder out of the lake and the biggest catfish there is 45 pounds.
  21. Haha, saw something like this today while I was fishing. Kid across the lake sets the hook on a fish only for his bait to come flying at him and hit him in the face.
  22. Won't let me post a link until I've posted 10 times on here so... nativewatercraft.....com... Lame.. But, my dad and I just bought two of the Ultimate 12 footers and they are great for smallies on the James River!
  23. Hey all, first time posting. I need some tips for choosing a new reel and rod. My dad use to work for Stren and he got a lot of reels and rods that he has given me, but they are old and worn and it seems like the technology in rods and reels has been improved. I am currently using a Daiwa TD2Hi and a 7'0 Quantum XL QXLC, I am usually throwing football head jigs with Rage Tail trailers and different weighted plastics. I was wondering what some of you all had to say for a nice 7'0 rod and reel for mostly jigging and plastics.
