  1. Whether or not this board has a shimano support section has nothing to do with what reels I fish. I have tried them all, and I like the Shimano stuff the best. Mainly because they are light weight, smooth, and hold up in saltwater.
  2. Usually these 4 Senkos and Flukes-->Powell 7ft MH EX-Fast with Citica 200E T-Rig Plastics-->Cumara 7'2" M Ex-Fast with Curado 200E7 Spinnerbaits and Frogs--> American Rodsmiths 7 Ft H Fast with Citica 200E Cranks-->Powell 6'8" M Moderate with Quantum Accurist (hate this reel)
  3. Specifically when fishing heavy cover do you peg your weight? I never did it in the past, but started playing around with this lately. Also, what is the best way to peg a weight? I have tried toothpicks, but I heard this could damage the line. Any input is greatly appreciated.
  4. When I am bass fishing I keep the drag set the same at all times. When I am saltwater fishing I adjust the drag quite frequently. The fish in my avatar took all my line two or three times and I had to put the screws to her when I was almost out of line each time.
  5. I have those exact rods, what are the odds ;D ;D I have the citica 200e on both of them. Talk about some great rods!!
  6. Love my 7'2" medium cumara. I love throwing senkos, t-rigs, and light jigs with it. Not to mention it is a very solid medium. Tons of backbone yet super sensitive. I have busted both loomis and shimano rods and never had any problems returning either. I purchase most of my stuff from Cabelas, and down here they always let me swap out for the same model our store credit towards something else. Some of their prices might be higher, but I prefer to pay for the peace of mind knowing I can always return something if it breaks.
  7. Completely depends on what model the rod is. Any idea which one it is?
  8. The stradic is an absolute beast. My buddy has the 3000 size on a cumara and it is a dream setup. I use the 3000 saros which is another great option for a bit less than the stradic. The way the spools are designed with the beveled lip lets the line come off nice and even every cast. Get the stradic, you will not regret it.
  9. For freshwater I would have to say crappie (we call them sac-a-lait down here) and bream. Most of my fishing is inshore saltwater and we go for speckled trout and redfish. Our limit is 25 specs and 5 reds so when the action is on we have a blast.
  10. E7 for T-Rigs, Jigs, and some saltwater. I almost picked up the E5 today for cranks, but I resisted.... barely...
  11. Different strokes for different folks. If you think Dolly Parton is mildly attractive with her silly floatation devices, you my friend have different taste than I. I don't want to hang the hook off the guide mounts and scratch up the paint either.
  12. I know about that one, but I have vertical tube rod holders on my boat. You can't fit the reel in the holder with a lure stuck in the grip.
  13. Just picked up a used 7'2" Shimano Cumara casting from the local classifieds. I used to have the MH but this one is a M for my t-rigs, senkos, and saltwater plastics. I am looking for suggestions on reels to match with this rod. I have a citica 200E, citica 200D, and a curado 200E7, but I want to try something new. Sorry if the hook keeper question is a repeat, but I could not get the search feature to work... Is the fuji hook keeper my best option? I can't seem to find many others. If anyone has a few extra lying around lmk and I will send funds for a few. Thanks
  14. I have both and prefer the curado. It is much smoother and feels more solid when setting the hook.
  15. Who cares what the reel is made of as long as it holds up. I have landed 8 redfish over 20lbs with this reel and it still runs as smooth as it did the day I purchased it. If you have never battled these brutes they make a bucket mouth look like a crappie. Not to mention the hundreds of speckled trout, bass, flounder, and a 34lb black drum. If that is not a testament to the reel's quality I do not know what is!!
  16. Medium power varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. I use a kistler medium light for saltwater that is every bit as stout as a mossyback medium. I use a 7ft MH Powell for the pads and it does great. I use a curado e7 spooled with braid (typically 30 or 40lb).
  17. Line selection will affect casting distance more than anything. I use a citica e for the same application you are talking about and I am very happy with the reel's performance. I typically throw bandit cranks and they go a mile. Either choice is good, I just prefer shimano.
  18. What about those revo premier reels? They are super light but I have never handled one.
  19. I was always partial to easton bats but I am open to suggestions. I am still trying to figure out what "sale water" is lol.
  20. I use a 6'9" Powell medium power moderate action. I use it for light topwaters and my bandit cranks. Great rod that throws the light stuff a mile.
  21. Has anybody tried this braided line? I have been using 30lb powerpro for a while and it seems fine, but I talked to somebody today that swears by this stuff. He says it gives you more warning before it breaks, is cheaper, and seems to last longer. Have any of you folk tried this stuff? Thanks
  22. Looks like a good deal on the chronarch. Is this reel as smooth as the steez? I should have specified that I am only looking for low pro reels.
  23. With my christmas bonus on the way I decided to treat myself to a nice high end baitcaster. Up to the point my best bc is a new curado. This reel is awesome, but I have the itch to get something better. I am open to suggestions as I have never shopped in this price bracket Right now I am looking at the Steez and the Core. I like the Shimano stuff but am open to other brands. Has anyone used these reels in saltwater? I fish inshore saltwater quite a bit more. Thanks
