see this is where i am confused... abu garcia makes a oil and lube, but not grease. Yet they show you where to grease the reel for maintenance

thanks for the info. not new by any mean to baitcasting i am just having trouble getting much distance with the stanley ribbit frogs. They are super light so trying to make sure i have everything set up. I cast texas rigs fine but the frogs just have a hook so its pretty light

Which reels are you using to cast frogs such as ribbit frogs(dont know if they are considered hollow body or what, but they are soft plastic ones not the spro type). Reason I ask is because I have heard people say they use their jig rod for frog rods but the frogs are WAY lighter than jigs

I read a post a while back but couldn't find it and i am trying to find an answer about how many brakes to have on. I know you must turn them on in pairs and opposite of each other. But how do you chose between 2,4,6. If i remember right: if you are have blacklash at beginning of cast then you need more brakes on. If you are having it at then end of cast, you should tighten spool tenstion knob

what is the difference between these. Also please state which brands you use

do you fish crankbaits all through the summer or only here in the spring(prespawn and spawn). What about lipless crankbaits too

many people talk about the balancing point of rods with certain reels. Tackle Tour actually measures this out on many reviews. Where do you want the balancing point to be because without knowing this then all the numbers mean nothing

So if i put this on a say powell 704CB (7' M Moderate fast). I could use it for shallow/medium crankbaits and lipless crankbaits. Just reel a little quicker. Then when i do eventually get a deep crankbait setup just put this reel on it and get a 6.X:X to go on this setup?

i bought a brand new revo winch (5.4:1) thinking it was what i needed for a shallow/medium crankbait and lipless crankbait set up. well now i realize that the slower ratio is generally only used for deep crankbaits. am i correct?

which techniques do you feel can be combined in a setups without much loss from application specific setups. for instance using the same set up for topwater "walking the dog" baits and jerkbaits. The setups im looking for would be: t-rigs,c-rigs,jigs,shaky heads, hard jerkbaits, topwater"walk the dog", poppers, frogs, shallow and medium crankbaits, deep crankbaits, lipless crainkbaits, spinnerbaits

do you guys use swivels to prevent line twists. Also what size rooster tails do you use for bass. Colors too.

lol yea... i cant hold these rods (not that i would really know what to feel for since this year will be my first year attempting crankbaits and topwater.) Just don't want to be at a disadvantage in my learning due to the wrong rod

moderators... i meant to put this in the tackle forum... sorry... So if fishing a pond just throw the crankbait out into the middle and reel in. Or do you throw it towards the bank and reel it horizontal to the bank

I am going to spend this year primarily learning how to fish crankbaits. I have never caught a fish on a crankbait because I hardly ever use them since I don't know how because of all of the variety. How do you go about figuring out which crankbaits to go with in different situations. I fish primarily ponds and river dams.
