3/8 or 1/2oz. fat profile cranks
I am looking for some crankbaits that weigh 3/8 or 1/2oz and swim no deeper then about 6 feet. I am also looking for something that has a fat profile. Any suggestions out there??? The wifey gave me the green light to pick out some tackle online that I want for christmas!!!

Powell Rods?
Welcome to the board 8-) I was just recently introduced to Powell rods and quickly fell in love. I have 3 Powell casting rods. They are all really light, super sensitive, and balance nicely. Not to mention the price tag is hard to beat for that quality of a rod.

Who has tried it?
This is my favorite reel by far. It is very light, easy to cast, and next to impossible to backlash. The point that sold me was the small size with good capacity. I need extra line for saltwater

Is Sufix Siege ok to use in saltwater?
I have used suffix siege quite a bit in saltwater with no problems at all. You will be fine

fresh water gear in salt water
The smaller pflueger bass gear does not do well in salt at all. More specifically the lo-pro baitcasters. I buddy of mine owns a tackle store and sells quite a bit of pflueger reels. People buy them for freshwater but every once in a while they do some saltwater fishing with them. When they return the reel it has this grindy awful noise. They all sound the same after they are ruined. I am sure some of this is lack of appropriate care, but the shimano stuff does not get returned like this.

fresh water gear in salt water
Great advice. The abu stuff tends to do well in saltwater. The only reels I fully trust in the salt are shimano. I have never had one foul up over the years and I do quite a bit more saltwater fishing than bass fishing. DO NOT put a freshwater pflueger reel anywhere close to saltwater.

Shimano Teramar inshore = Good crankbait rod??
Fishing buddy of mine uses the Teramar for inshore saltwater. I believe he uses a 7'0" MH fast. I am not 100% on the specs, but I know it is a MH and it feels super heavy. Make sure you handle the rod before purchasing it. Just my $.02

Good Saltwater Crankbaits???
What types of crankbaits do you guys like to throw in saltwater? I will be fishing for speckled trout and redfish. I have a bunch of suspending twitch baits, hard jerk baits, etc... I am looking for some lipped or lipless crankbaits that I can fish using bass type techniques. I typically use whatever bass crankbait I feel up to, but they are not designed to withstand saltwater and tend to corrode. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Who is your favorite bass fishing TV celebrity?
That is my top two also. That show "city limits" is fantastic.

What do you say...
What do you say when you set the hook? I know this question seems a bit odd but I have noticed that almost every fishing show I watch the host has some type of catch phrase or saying that they rattle off every time they hook up. I usually say "there he is" or "fish". One time I hollered "yahtzee" when I hooked up. That one was good for a few laughs.

Go-to Texas Rig Baits
I like to use the Powerbait 7" Ribbontail worm. I can bounce it of the bottom using a slow retrieve or use a quicker retrieve and sort of swim the worm. I typically throw the junebug or watermelon color. I also like the Zoom baby brush hog (many different colors) and the Zoom 6" Lizard (man different colors). I fish the T-Rig when fishing super heavy cover especially lilly pads. Next to cranking this is my favorite technique.

2" Senkos?
This is exactly what I do. One spot I like to fish is filled with nice crappie and decent lmb. This smaller presentation enables me to catch both species and I can cut the pieces to various lengths depending on what they want. Give it a try.

Less is better?
Going into a day of fishing I have a plan of what I would like to do (ideally). I bring my two rods rigged up with whatever I plan on throwing, usually a crankbait or spinnerbait on one rod, and a jig or texas rig on the other. If my pattern flops I step back and come up with something else. Pretty simple I suppose and it is working quite well these days.

Less is better?
I am trying this theory with my rods these days. I am only brining two rods with me every trip. One rod for cranks, spinners, swims, and the other rod for t-rig, jigs, senkos, frogs etc... Certainly reduced the clutter in my boat ;D

How about a comparison
I have spent some time fishing with both reels and either one is a great option. The STX feels more solid in hand, but don't be fooled by the construction of the curado. This reel is a flat out tank. I have landed some enormous fish with this reel and it never skipped a beat. I ended up sticking with the curado because the VBS is amazing, the curado feels great in my hands, and shimano products typically do great in saltwater.

Personal Best Redfish
The drum were caught on live shrimp on a carolina rig. Well my personal best redfish only lasted a week. Today I topped the personal twice!! I landed a 42 inch 22lb red, and a 44 inch 23.5 lb red. I hooked up on the 23 and fought her for about 5 minutes then passed the rod to the wifey so she could fight the fish. Man the look on her face made the trip. As the drag screamed her smile got bigger and bigger. Great stuff.

Personal Best Redfish
Gulp and gold spoons are the staples of my redfish arsenal. Venice is the mecca of redfish and monster trout. We were down in Port Fourchon when I caught this beast. I love catching big fish on light tackle. I was using a new Curado 200E7, 17lb trilene, and a 6'8" G-Loomis Mossback medium action. 10 plus pound reds on bass tackle is something everyone needs to experience.

Personal Best Redfish
I caught her using a 3" Gulp! new penny shrimp on a 1/4oz jig head. Something about that gulp just drives the reds nuts. Yeah my arms were pretty sore, but I am still young so that went away quickly. I got her at the taxidermists right now getting ready for the wall.

Personal Best Redfish
I caught this bad boy yesterday on a trip down to the coast. I do quite a bit of inshore saltwater fishing, but I have never caught one this big. All together we ended with 25 speckled trout, 15 white trout, 15lb redfish, 20lb redfish, 34lb 19lb 17lb and 15lb black drums. It was so windy and we found this protected area with tons of bait activity and just wore out the big dogs. I had a blast. This redfish went 37 inches and 20lbs even (Sorry about the poor quality it was taken on a camera phone)

Need Advice On First Baitcasting Reel
I could not agree more. I tried a handful of cheaper BCs and all I ended up doing is spending a bunch of money on cheapo reels that frustrated me like crazy. Once I bought a citica I truly learned to appreciate a nice BC. Now I fish them almost exclusively. My advice would be to save a few extra pennies and pick up a nicer used reel.

The New Curado is the Real Deal!!
I just picked up one of the new curados up and had to take her giver her a work out yesterday. Although I do thoroughly enjoy bass fishing my real passion is inshore saltwater fishing. If my equipment cannot hang in the salt it has to go!!! So, we shot down to the coast in search of some speckled trout but stumbled upon some monster black drum and redfish. The first big dog we hooked was a 34lb black drum. Now this fish does not fight a ton but that much weight puts some strain on any rod and reel. Well the curado spooled with 17lb trilene just owned this fish. Next up was a 20lb redfish which really gave this reel a workout. He took my entire spool 3 times. I had the drag just about maxed out and the reel did not let up one time. Took a bit to get her in (medium rod), but the red was no match for the curado. Inshore saltwater fishing can really tear up your gear. The corrosive nature of the saltwater and the big fish are quite demanding on tackle. If my gear can make it past this test freshwater is a sure thing. The new curado is a great all around reel: very lighweight, small, smooth reeling, and casts a mile. I am already thinking about getting another.

penn reels
Never used their casting stuff, but their spinning stuff is good for inshore saltwater. The "slammer" series seems to be quite nice, but I don't really care for it. My buddy lives and dies by them, but I find them to be to heavy.

round baitcast reels
The only round reel I have is the calcutta and it has a break system.
