Fish just won't bite
I've never been somewheres like that and not caught a fish on a white trickworm (weightless). Thats my go to bait for fishing from the bank.

Late summer and Fall bass
Work on a better hook set. Sounds like if you could have set the hook you would have fish. What are you throwing T-rigged? In ponds I tend to throw baby brush hawgs more than worms. My secret to producing numbers/quality fish out of ponds...weightless white trick worm (most of the ponds I fish have plenty of structure)

"I'm on a fishin' mission"...I'm sure someone else came up with it, but I'll give the credits to mawmaw.

Fishin' Buddy 120 (Portable Fish/Depth Finder)
I've never used a depth finder, ever. So, pretty much I have many questions but I'll keep it simple as possible. Seems like the one sonar down basically does all the work, so it only tells you drop offs, structure, and stuff like that directly under you? Is it worth the extra 60$ for the 120?

Advice on gaining access to some private lakes I found
Yea, I'm pretty sure Louisiana law states when hunting or fishing on private property, you must have a writ document giving permission and having owners phone number. I don't bother with it most of the time though.

Fishin' Buddy 120 (Portable Fish/Depth Finder)
Anything good about this? Its 169.99 at BPS (cheapest I can find) and has a down and side sonar beam. Has a clamp like a transom trolling motor (I would assume it to be close). Runs off of 6 AA batteries. Anyone have this? If so, how do you like it?

Advice on gaining access to some private lakes I found
Kill them! With kindness that is, I'm 20 and have ponds/private lakes up to 30 minutes away that I fish and just simply ask if I could park by there house and carry my boat to the pond. I have been turned down, but thats in places where my safety is more of an issue to the owners. If using a boat, be sure to let them know you have at least a life jacket, and if they seem like the type; when your done fishing, let them know how you did, what you caught, and how the mosquitoes were! When turned down (its bound to happen) all you can really do is say you understand and find a different place to fish that evening. If you plan on fishing in the morning, try getting permission the day before ( I guess thats obvious). But good luck

Problem finding articles on drop shotting
Thanks for the information. And yes, I do need to familiarize myself with the site a bit more, I've been here for over two years and have only read the forums until now. I have just been intimidated, I guess, by all of the articles and how much actual info is there.

Problem finding articles on drop shotting
I'm having a little problems finding a drop shot article. If there is one, could someone help me with a link? I really just need help with how to rig one up, from there I kind of like to figure things out on my own ;D Any advice or help is appreciated though.

You bet power pro is strong
I've "accidentally" hooked a 7 foot alligator and beached it with PP. The stuff is purely amazing. Just be sure to either put a little mono or tape to keep it in place on your spool

Shimano Crucial CRC-X610MH Review
What a coincidence. I just went to Academy and got one on sale for $99.99, isn't retail about $149.99? I usually go to a local rod n' reel repair shop in town, but I made the trip for a new rod holder and I was pretty happy I did. Great rod, from the one trip I've taken it on so far, caught a few and had fun.

Dinks, smaller fish (my rules to remember)
Is this for a larger lake? Today I went out and caught about 8 fish no more than 1.5lbs, then out of no where they quit biting and I may have caught one more. This was in the evening and majority were caught between 6 and 7 (7 being almost an hour before dusk here). Honestly, this was the second time I had ever tried a crank bait, and they have ME hooked for the action. I don't know what size it is but i know it dives around 6 or 8 ft and is about an inch and a half long

Shimano Castaic (ca-200)
yeah i got her put back together and cast it a few times today, i have it on a 7' rod and it casts ok, i believe there might be a few kinks in it...of course i find it two days after i buy the citica 200e (which i love), but still a great find and thanks a million for the info on it!

Shimano Castaic (ca-200)
Well a little background...I'm driving down the road, and see a rod in the trash, snapped in half and mangled with memory infested line. I pull it up, and this Shimano Castaic Bantam (ca-200) is on the end, looking very bad. Being curious, I took it home and got her working. I tried doing a little google research but found nothing really about the reel (because the super free reels are everywhere). I'm just wondering if anyone has (or has had) this reel. Thanks

Fishing help near Slidell, LA
well, if your coming from the shopping outlet with american eagle and stuff going towards Greenleaves neighborhood, theres a road just before it called Lonesome...theres 2 ponds on that road, the best one is the second one...i cant count how many 3lb+ bass ive caught out of there, and I caught a 7lber that i think a younger kid caught a year later and made the paper for it...theres a little gravel on the side of the road and just park there...the back right corner is a big bass hotspot, front right holds a good bit of perch and all the colverts have made deeper ditches and i catch a few off of them...and if you go all the way down lonesome and take a left at the light, you go down to the next light which should be Sharp rd. and take a left. you go ab a mile or two down and once you go passed the big curve theres a neighborhood called Audubon Lake...turn in there and take a right on the second road...go all the way down to the coldisac or w.e and park on the road just before it. theres a house just infront of you and if you knock and ask the lady if you can walk through her yard to the pond she gets all estatic and happy haha. but you walk back there and you'll see the pond...theres a dam on the right and i watch my dad catch a 12lb bass and i catch sacalet on the drainage side of it with shiners...umm id say for your girl def. use shiners or something and save a frog or buzz bait for both ponds just before dark...i usually throw worms in both ponds but ive torn em up on the small strike king spinners before too if you can find the crawfish color, dont throw anything white unless its a trickworm good luck ps:pass up lonesome and greenleaves and take a left in the neighborhood tanglewood, take a left on the second street and...ahh hell id have to go back go to it to remember how to get to it, all of the ponds i just mentioned have houses around them, and the one on lonesome i walk the whole thing but just stay close close to the bank and no one ever says anything excent "any luck?", the one in audubon lakes is kind of tricky to bank fish and youre kind of limited to about 100yds and the dam (its a huge pond, used to be a creek but they dammed it and its pretty amazing) i usually bring a small flat with a trolling motor or paddle... psps: 2 ponds infront of fountainblue jr. high hold big bass, idk how they arent big ponds at all but i went out there one morning a few years back and caught 2 4lb and like 5 or 6 solid 2lbers

Fishing help near Slidell, LA
Good bass places starting closest to farthest headed west on I-12. 1. Bayou Lacomb 2. Bayou Cain (not sure how dependable the launch is) 3. A few secret ponds in Mandeville 4. Tchefuncte River 5. Tangipahoa River 6. Manchac 7. Tickfaw/Natalbany River I personally have caught the most out of those ponds in Mandeville and Tangipahoa River, I've never fished Tchefuncte but looks quite decent. For directions to any launches or ponds, just send a message...I know of plenty of ponds from Mandeville to Amite.

lake cataouatche
thanks for the help, and i live inbetween robert and ponchatoula, pretty cool...but im more than interested in a club but i am pretty busy with 2 jobs and school at southeastern. the only time i have to fish until summer is mid-day inbetween jobs and school, or morning weekend fishing.

lake cataouatche
Ive been hearing a lot of stuff about cataouatche, most of people gettin 2-3 6lb+ a trip. I hear much about what they catch, and little about how or where. I know the back right corner behind the break with the walls, where the grass gets too thick to fish in the summer is a great spot, but ive only been once and only know one spot. we threw cranks and flappn shads last year and caught a few early in the summer. any tips? oh yeah, im headed out there sunday in search of at least a picture worthy bass, been catching nothing but under 2lbs so far this year...well bass at least, sacalet were runnin one day and i caught 5 almost 3lbs

Thanks for the help, think im going to run out to bass pro friday and get the fishin buddy, only because i dont want to have a pole set aside just to cast out my depth finder, im all about convenience

handheld fishfinder/depthfinder
Does anyone know anything about a good handheld? I have a flatboat and a bassboat, but i fish my flat more than anything in some big ponds and stuff, so I was wondering if there were any quality handhelds out there. I looked at a few of them online, and couldnt find any at basspro.com. I'd like to spend less than 300$ on one. If anyone could at least throw a name brand or any specs that are better/helpful, that'd be great. thanks

Hey Catt!
sucks to have many responsibilites as you old farts, but family is first! my 95 yr old great-g-maw is steady at home living by herself, and its good to hear other people are actually making it to their 80's keep her close its always worth it...i love to talk about stories about the old days to an old lady how they "really" were instead of my pawpaw telling me these uphill both way stories

Setting the hook with frogs...
I sometimes let the hook show unlike I do when fishing worms, because a frog has a lot more plastic for the hook to have to go through to be exposed and be set. Also, when I see the swirl or hit, I don't wait quite as long as 5 seconds because half the time the fish spits it out by then (not always the case, but it is a lot of the time for me) but I usually do what jeff said and retrieve a bit slower and reel in until I feel tension and then give it a good hard hookset. Either way, I miss a lot of fish with frogs, but they are fun as hell to fish with.
