  1. If it was the fish's fault that I lost the lure, I can get mad. Other than that, well, I'm always mad.
  2. i have heard so much goodness coming out of lake cataouatche. everyone that i know that has gone there has come back with an 8lb or better bass, and had nothing but good to talk about the lake. toledo bend is also a great lake, i make at least one trip there a year. but i live on the northshore, i fish tangipahoa river a lot, but theres also tickfaw river and natalbany which have always produced for me. these rivers are all in the hammond area. theres also bayou cane and lacombe right passed mandeville, oh and you can't forget tchefuncte river in madisonville.
  3. im not as experienced as most of these anglers here... but i know a bass fishing trip on a boat is almost like a christmas present to me i fish a lot from banks...and its pretty different when youre fishing a pond or a lake/river. theres 2 lures that have by far produced more fish than anything else in a pond, and thats the good ole white trick worm, or the red shad ribbon tail T-rigged. but most of the ponds I fish are extremely productive (most, theres still a few that i try to nail that monster and get skunked every time!) but in general, i cast a spot 4-5 times, and i always go with 2-3 rods rigged up with white trick worm, red shad ribbon tail, and a buzz bait(for the last 10 minutes) depending on size of the pond, i usually walk it twice; well i try to at least. when i get a good hit, and just dont get a good hook set, i tend to be unlucky, but ive sometimes cast in the exact same spot and he'd hit it again. one of my "secret" baits i use is the walkin worm. I cant use it in any pond, because i find it quite useless in ponds with grasses or too much heavy cover on the bottom. spinner baits are probably one of the best lures ive used in ponds, but thats before i fell in love with soft plastics i also have a big problem with "speeding" up my retreives and casts when i get frustrated...i try to keep from doing that, but sometimes ill catch myself doing it about an hour after i started... best advice IMO is to just try many many different lures/colors/presentations and fish as many ponds as you can. you'll eventually find a good one. just be careful because if its an easy pond to move around and get good casts, its easy for anyone else so theres a good possibility its fished a lot, not always, but just keep that in mind. look for secluded ponds, and if needed ask permission (or be really sneaky) but then again, im not as experienced..just putting in my 2 cents
  4. Yeah, I was pretty excited when they decided to build both of them (Cabelas and Bass Pro) , and I live a good 25 minutes away; its always worth the drive though.
  5. I live in LA and I fished the day before Gustav, and started fishing again 2 days after the storm. I did fairly well even though I was just fishing ponds, I wound up catching roughly 20 fish, on three different trips. All I threw was a white trick worm. I threw a red shad ribbon tail a few times but no luck.
  6. Well, when I use a stringer, I never go through the gills. I usually poke a hole through the bottom lip and run it through that like you would through the gills. Still, an aerator would be your best bet. There is a variety of them at walmart. The regular Mr Bubbles which you put on the side of a bucket works good, and then I saw recently that they started selling the whole rig for an ice chest (except the ice chest).
  7. You can tell a tiger fan didn't make it...lol
  8. Hey catt, while I was down there I heard some good things about the "Indian Lumps"(might be Indian Humps, but I'm pretty sure it was Lumps). I really dont know where they are, and I didn't fish them, but I hear its a great spot to wear out the bass. Have you heard anything about it?
  9. If the cat isn't too big, I always put my index finger up the belly (between the two fins) and grip the fish right under the side fins. It's a little tricky when releasing, if you are still holding the fish, while holding it like this. Usually when I fish for 'em, I keep them, but while bass fishing, I snag up on a few every now and again. They kind of tick me off then, so I usually just toss them in the water, and they usually do just fine. If fishing for cats, I use night crawlers (I dont know if everyone has them, but down here in LA you'd be dumb to buy those little scrawny worms for $.50 less). They are usually productive, and I've fished with perch before and hooked up on some big bass too.
  10. I fished it last weekend, and we did alright. We mostly caught on white trick worms, but we threw a lot of other baits. We only fished pocks, and went under bridges and fished all the grass beds, and the "rivers" made out of the grass/weeds/lilies. Our biggest was 5.2lbs. There really wasn't just one part of the lake that we fished, we just launched in different places, and when the wind wasn't too bad, we usually caught a good bit. Good luck!
  11. well i was getting bashed for being young and trying something out, which i have help with the money part but i just cant expect pawpaw to give me everything, thanks popeye...thats all i was asking for was advise ive tried craigslist and there isnt too much locally, and it seems that every person i contact about the boat says its in perfect condition(which were all 3+ hours away)...but thanks anyways, ill go back to just lurking the forums instead of asking for advise
  12. in louisiana we have TOPS, which is a program that pays for most, not all of college, for having a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA. i have a bit over 5,000 saved up from graduation/working over the summer, and pawpaw wants to go in halves, or close to it on a boat. truck is my mom's old (04 dodge ram 1500) truck and is payed off. pawpaw pays for insurance as long as i stay in school, and grandmother offered to pay for books (of course, everyone in my family just about has divorced and remarried a few times). i got it planned out now, back to the boat part
  13. Hi, I'm searching for the best buy. The cheapest boat I've found was the Nitro 640, its small, but thats all I'd really need. And its also a bit out of my price range. I just turned 18, have a part time job, and I'm just looking for a boat I could spend my time on while not working or in college. Is this a good boat for a bit over 12,000$? Brand new, 50 merc (2stroke), and a trailer. Can't see where I'd be going wrong, but please, if you know of a better deal/boat, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks
  14. i grew up in metarie and fished lafranere park (not sure how its spelled) but i'd ride my bike there and fish everyday after school. i'm not sure which exit but i know there's a best buy near it...im sure someone could give you clearer directions, but i just remember it being a fun pond to fish...its large and has many areas to fish...bass, perch, catfish, gar...lots to fish, and if you're not scared of looking like an idiot and just want to mess around like i did as a kid...fish the canals, ive seen some gigantic gar in there, and you'll catch a crowd if you snag a big one ...best of luck, city park was always fun too, used to fish it with my dad
  15. ive never fished lafayette, but im not too far away here in ponchatoula... theres good ponds, all you have to do is ask to fish, most people dont mind...i mean the worst they can say is no, right? and i took a few trips up north and the structure is completely different from what ive seen...but i like to throw trick worms in heavy cover (grass beds/cypress knees or trees) and throw a spinner or red shad worm carolina rigged...i fish a little tangipahoa river, good fishing, just dont go too far down river because its heavily fished, but i still tear up the smaller bass **when going to bourbon, get hand-grenades** best of luck here in louisiana
  16. Well, I went fishing this morning and afternoon...was a very slow and not productive day. I tried the trick worm/double buzz in the morning, and I caught 2 bass. Later in the evening, in a different pond, I fished the Gamblers Flapp'n Shad for about 3 hours and caught one bass. This is the weird part...I started fishing some grassy/highly covered areas and I couldn't even get a hit. 30 minutes pass by and I start reeling in what I think to be a bass under a big mess of weeds, but once I got it up to the boat, it turned out to be a pike. I googled pictures of pike just because I wasn't sure, because I'm from southern Louisiana and I've never actually seen a pike. Sure enough it is...is there an explanation for this?
  17. I usually stay away from fishing right after a storm, but im getting the fishing frenzy right now and i would like to know a few tricks or tips on fishing after a big storm, in the past ive always fished it how i would if it wasnt muddier or anything, but i never have as good of luck...
  18. yeah, i actually make a few trips to mandeville and actually fish those ponds...but idk what it is this year, i cant get on anything over 2lbs...about 95% of my fish have been under a pound...
  19. well i bought it only because it was a "pretty" reel and was about 45$ off...so id like to hear about the problems, if any, before they happen lol
  20. im having a good bit of trouble finding new places to catch fish, i fish a few ponds that are privately owned so i cant just tell people to go fish those
  21. im visiting family for 2 weeks in north carolina between raleigh and duram, im going to mostly be fishing a small river behind my dads house, if its anything like louisiana, a trick worm or a berkley 7" ribbon or "U" tail red shad aught to do the trick for some bass...but idk and then were going on a hiking trip and doing more fishing in other rivers...and im sure ill fish jordan lakes and i have no clue what to use there...any suggestions? im just going to be fishing my Pflueger infusion with some 30lb (8dia) powerpro... any suggestions are good...maybe colors/lures (i like soft plastics but if cranks/spinners/jigs work better please let me know!)
  22. know much about them? i just got one on sale at a local bait shop going out of buisiness...it casts like a dream with my 6'6" triumph rod...so far its done nothing buy amazing things, but has anyone had any troubles/problems with them? im fishing it with 30lb PowerPro (8lb dia.) and usually rigged weightless with a trick worm and a 3/0 or 4/0 bleeding worm hook...no complaints yet!
  23. if you live in hammond, idk what to tell you...i live in ponchatoula, and i fish the interstate pond by my house, theres fish in it but they are hard to catch...id advise taking a ride out to mandeville...get on the road that has american eagle and stuff, keep going passed harbor market until you get to Lonesome Rd. second pond on the right is pretty good, if asked say ur mom or someone lives in green leaves....if u keep going down lonesome...take a left at the light and take a left at the next light (sharp rd.) go down about 3/4 of a mile to audubon lakes and turn in there...second road on the right, go down to the turnaround and park on the side of the road...the people who live there are really friendly and ask if you could walk through their yard to fish the pond....its a huge pond, bringing a pirogue or canoe (with or without a trollin motor) would be really smart, if you have it...and the pond in ponchatoula...take a left on duncen, which is the blinking light by ponchatoula high....follow it all the way down and you'll wind up on a service road..not too much farther is the interstate pond i fish, on the right...you'll probably see me there with my flueger on a triumph rod fishing a trick worm
