Wayne, it's amazing how many use too small of a hook on the toads and either miss fish or recieve poor action results. I am partial to the Rage toads but might try your hook instructions as well

my favorite hook on all soft body toads is 5/0 to 6/0 gammy superline or heavy wire hook. this hook provides the additional keel effect that is necessary to provide ezcellent action and insure that the toad runs belly down everytime

any is too often for me, but it happens more than I like to admit

I was told that braid works best and so far thats right for me

I live in Tx too but having a hard time finding big fish like you are talking about. What baits do I fish with cause I am kind of new to fishing for the bigguns.
