  1. Worming, jigging, pitching, flipping, topwater. In some cases buzzbaiting, lipless crankbaiting. Whenever you need to pick up slack line in an eye blink or when you need to burn the water. I see. So does that mean you basically only use regular speed bait reels for crankbaits and spinnerbaits?. Sorry about the annoying questions. Just trying to get a handle on the best way to go about things for future rod/reel options.
  2. I use a small concrete block and have it in a bucket when it's not in the water.
  3. What application do y'all want these high speed reels for?
  4. yep, I got skunked today too, and that after hauling I disagree through the nastiest overgrown jungle of bamboo and bramble to get to my best performing pond. And then the rain came ||||||| :-/ |||||| keep your chin up son.
  5. thanks for that info Catt. Very interesting :-?
  6. I think having a good reel is more important. With poor-average quality reels the frustration can be very immediate and very real. With rods you'll only know about it when you actually start using a good quality rod.
  7. Bassday - Range Vib (better known as a seabass bait here in Japan) and Rapala - Rattlin Rapala
  8. Hi there, haven't been around these parts for a while. Yep two 50cm+ bass accidentally slipped out of my hands today. And then later when I bragged about catching a few nice fish I got hassled by an old guy for releasing the fish!! The sick thing is the ponds I fish at are used for irrigating rice fields, no one gives a toss about looking after it as an environment for native fish. If there was some kind of plan in place, like 'eradicate bass in these ponds and allow sport fishing in these ponds etc' then I'd be happy enough, but I guess it's easier for people to just blame bass than to actually do something positive.

  10. 2, this one and http://www.fishing.net.nz/asp_forums/ to keep up-to-date with what's going on back home (sorry, no bass tips there).

  12. I'm guessing some of you folks have a barometer on your depth/fish finder in your boat. Do any of you have this feature on your watch? Do you use it? is it acurate? I'm getting a new watch and trying to decide if I should spring for the one with the barometer, altimeter, thermometer, etc.
  13. I use it from the shore quite alot with good success. I just tie a wee knot at the end of my line (flouro) and put a split shot above it. That way I can easily adjust the weight to different size plastics, different retieve rates etc. Basically any plastics can be used but my personal favorite is the small kut tail.
  14. Yep, I like the grub trailer. I use it on a jig head spinnerbait. Works especially well at night
  15. Hi there Kana Nope, ya dont go lipping them raigyou. I recently picked up a new ultra light spinning rod to replace a slightly stiffer one I snapped. It's only since using it with 4lb line that I've started thinking that a net might be nice. But I probably wont bother, as everyone around here is saying, maybe more trouble than it's worth. BTW I got one of these http://www.majorcraft.co.jp/ rods. The 'slicer' SS-602UL (better than the 'hooker' I guess) . No complaints with it at this stage. Its pretty cheap, so I feel I can justify getting another rod before too long. Meantime I can enjoy using this thing for mebaru and kasago fishing this winter and I can use it for spinning for trout when I go home to NZ. At one large pond around here there are small mouth bass, though I've never caught one over about 22cm. I had never seen anyone else fishing at this pond and when I told people thereare smb's in there they basically didn't believe me. Small mouths are not supposed to be this far south, at least not in ponds. Though they are in one of those famous reservoirs in southern Mie. Anyway I'm itching to catch a larger smb at this pond but so far I've only seen small fish (smb's and lmb's). Do you know of any places holding smb around your area?
  16. Thanks for all your replies, I'll keep thinking about it.
  17. I only fish from the bank. I always try to handle the fish I've caught as little as possible and manage the unhooking and release process as well as possible without damaging the fish. But there are some times when they get away and end up thrashing around on the rocks or something which isn't good. I'm worried that a net might get in the way and just generally be a hassle. I guess if I always wear my waistpouch I can just tuck it into that behind me. Do you folk (esp shore-based anglers) use a net or just do without? And if I get one what kind is good ??? cheers
  18. OK, now I'm with ya (and feeling like kind of an idiot)
  19. That's a pretty cute fella, what kind of fish is oscar?
  20. What's your oscar?
  21. One thing I like about fishing with real bait is that if a fish steals your bait it gets a wee feed, but if its a plastic worm that the fish steals and eats what happens. I'm worried that fish may get sick and die :'( . What do y'all think?
  22. 5$

Seems a bit harsh there Bassmaster. If he wants to try and get by on $5 for tackle then more power to him. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there throwing $20 lures with little skill or thought about what they're doing (and catching few fish). And a lot of people getting by happily with cheaper gear.
  23. I've heard that you should avoid applying sun-screen while fishing so I try to remember to put it on before I go, then wash my hands. Is this just a myth too?
  24. wouldn't throwing some old logs into the water have the same effect?
