  1. As others have said most round reels require u to remove the spool to access the brakes. For many years all I fished with was round reels. No different from lp in regards to brakes, getting at them can be a pain though
  2. Welcome aboard, I enjoy bank fishing, not as much here in SC. I'm not arguing with moccasins for the best spot on the bank, lol
  3. Wow, feeling a little grumpy today??? The purpose was to illustrate the difficulty in telling weight by pictures. The picture of the bass lipped was a good angle, good lighting with a little stretch not much, but I have 35" arms. That bass was just shy of 20 inches in length and weighed 5lb 4oz, there were 19 guesses until I gave the hints only one guess was close, right on in fact, the rest were not even within a pound, most were off by over a pound and half! That particular picture is illustrative of most pictures of fish, a little stretch not much, good angle and good light. The one on the ground was thrown out because of the poor quality, but I left the pic in case anyone wanted to guess. I couldn't substitute another picture because I don't have any other pictures with the fish on the ground. I only took that picture because it was at that time my pb. In any case, fyi a size 12 EEEE shoe will measure over 14 inches in length and over 5 in width, depending on type, the shoe ends before the tail and near the gill plate, but the picture is horrible and not a good representative, that is why I threw it out of the contest. Weighed on the same scale as the one I am lipping at 7 pounds 6 oz. The angle on that picture is awful as stated before and during the contest, you see the side of my shoe not the top, you can't see the fish's gut at all, not much to go on. The reason I did this was to illustrate the difficulty in figuring weight by pictures, I would not classify everyone who guessed as inexperienced, even a couple of the most experienced anglers who guessed were way off. That five pound fish just looks bigger than it is, imo the picture is a good example of the pictures we see when asked to guess, it has a good angle and good light, it was prespawn and she was healthy. There is a reason that we use scales to weigh fish, looks can be deceiving, I've seen ppl state here that they didn't realize how large a four pound fish was until they bought a scale!
  4. That's ok, I'm 44 know how many small jaws over 4lbs I've caught? Exactly 1.
  5. Again Dwight congrats, the numbers of Smallies over 5 lbs blows my mind. As I've said before I grew up fishing for smallies in the New and Greenbrier rivers, I know how special a 5lb bronze lady is, and 6 pounders are as rare as hen teeth. Way to go!
  6. Goodnight! I didn't realize that the winners and the actual weights were lost during outage. VolFan was the winner, the one I'm holding was 5lb 4oz, the one on the ground was 7lb 6 oz, NEjitterbugger's guess was closest for the fish on the ground when contest ended. Again congrats to VolFan. This was to show how deceiving pictures can be. Although hard to see I'm doing a little stretch with the one I'm holding. The one on the ground is a terrible angle and lighting. You see the side of my foot more than the top. That fish was almost 24" long.
  7. Welcome aboard, what part of Texas, I have family in Athens
  8. You probably won't feel better until you're able to verify for yourself it was a miss or not.
  9. I remember a training video that I saw while in the coast guard, in the video one subject who was all jacked up on pcp took 11 +p jhp (jacketed hollow point) 38 rounds to the body & two to the head all point blank range, did not stay down until he bled out. The video is ultimate survivors, by calibre press, officer's name Steve Chaney, criminal's name John Mullery. There are numerous documented cases of ppl who were high on pcp, taking multiple rounds, even being knocked down continuing to fight. All I know is that video scared the crap outta me!
  10. Very good post, gives us all something to strive toward.
  11. Congrats, awesome buck. Any idea on live weight?
  12. Last year when BPS debuted the new white bionic reel, I was intrigued. Its been almost a year, and I'm wondering if anyone here has used one? How does it perform?
  13. Great way to end the season. Congrats!
  14. A-jay you have a future in broadcasting. Call Zona tell him u want his job! if not broadcasting writing. I think you could get published, you did an excellent job describing your big catch.
  15. If you are taking ppl along I would recommend a bass hunter type boat. Very, very stable, light and easy to handle. I weigh 230 and I can stand on the edge of mine no problem. I think u will be very careful, but I don't trust anyone else to be. BTW you don't want to know how many floaters I picked up with life jackets on. If u can't swim the only safe jacket is one that will float u face up. Get knocked out while flipping and you are toast.
  16. Michigan has thousands of lakes, most natural, so doesn't surprise me no map exists. Learn to read the water. The shallower the structure the easier it is to find by learning to read the surface. Position your boat near some known structure, watch how the surface interacts around the intersection of the open water and the structure. Apply what u learn to find other pieces of structure. Good luck.
  17. Not only can u change your guesses, but I'll count both! But you are limited to two guesses
  18. I see allot of guess in the 7lb range for the one in my hand, go look at AJay pictures from Baccarac, and allot of under 4lbs for the one on the ground. Both are waaaaayyyyyyy off. Ok fellas, since its Sunday I decided to offer some help. Most ppl are way off, no one has come within 2lbs of the one on the ground, so that fish is the biggest. The one in my hand most guesses are way off there too. I know this isn't scientific but it goes a long way to showing how picture angles and such make us think a fish is much bigger or smaller depending on the angle. I will post the weights tomorrow morning and notify the winner, come on guys win the baits.
  19. To catch bass, learn the ways of the crawfish you must.................. Short answer to your question, yes some species of crawfish eat plant material and basically live in the weeds.
  20. Congrats on the new PB'S to Dwight and Boats. And again on being a member of the DD club Dwight. Can't wait to see the pics A Jay. Great story telling too.
  21. There ya go, will definitely make life easier. Does it also have a mowing deck?
  22. With bass pro, they typically call it a limited, or tournament, and in this case a silver edition pro qualifier. That's your first clue that it isn't the same reel. Just read the specs
