I like the spro bronze eye forg, they are a bit pricey but are the best i've used, the colors i've have best luck with is a dark green body and black legs http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SceneSevenDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10151&langId=-1&section=Home&productId=-73278&scene7Path=BassPro%2f248-969-chartb&sourceName=images2%2f200-000%2f248-969-chartb.jpg&type=1&linkEnabled=false the one in between the brown and white frog. And yes braid is a must have, 50lb tuf line is best in my experience. You need the heavy line to pull big bass out of the slop, or you will break off. As far as rods go i use a 7' rod that has a lot of back bone, about 80% back bone and 20% tip, you need the stout rod to better pull out bass frog the slop, it's like the difference between, fishing for grouper with a twig and a tree trunk, you're gonna what to have the tree trunk to get the fish out of the out of the rocks and into the boat. It's the same with bass. You also need to have a tight drag so you can bull the fish away for any hang ups. As far as color: Think about a bass under the water. Now think about the sun in the sky. Think about how it is for you to look upwards at bright light. You can't see well, don't want to look up much but turn your gaze aside and down. That's how it is for bass. They don't like too much light. They hang out under shade and cover when they can. Hence, you want to choose darker colors for top-water lures. In this way, you work with bass behavior best. When they look up, they will be "squinting" (not literally, but you get the idea: they are averse to bright light). They will see *the silhouette* of the lure and perceive its locomotion by sound and feel (their ear and lateral line), connect that it is food and react to capture and eat it. This also explains why a top-water lure that appears like a "jackass"--like no instance of actual prey in the natural world--catches bass. A bass's perception of top-water lures, and other lures like spinner baits, is merely impressionistic. You will simply walk the dog with hollow body frogs and buzz the frog on the top if you use soft plastic frogs.
  2. I fish the same stuff in the same place, I have great luck using white 3" jerk baits, bass Oscar, tilapia, bream, and gar all hit it, the 4 foot divers work best for me.
  3. The best way, and most common way to fish a jig is to cast, and let it sink to the bottom, and bonce it up and down always keeping a tight line. However, they do have specially made jigs used for swimming, it's made by strike king bait company, and designed by Kevin VanDam, he's a pro bass angler that has won tournaments using the swimmin' jig. You can most likely pick them but a Wally World (Wal Mart). But their is a a lure that is like a swimming jig, but better, it's called a spinner bait, it looks like a big, but it has a spinner on it! It's gives it flash and vibrations! you can get some smallish ones a Wally World, for a buck. If you need a pic here's one: http://www.mikescustomlures.com/spinnerbaits.jpg To pick a spinner bait you fist must look at the waters you most fish at, If the water is clear, than use a natural color and a small willow blade it will give of less flash, and vibration. Willow blade: http://www.basscraftlures.com/WillowBladeColorsChartOrangePearlWhiteNickelGoldBl.JPG It the water is murky than use a bright color, and a large willow blade, with a Colorado blade, such as this one: http://www.secretweaponlures.com/images/SB_Diagram.gif Colorado blade: http://www.xtackle.com/index_files/image134361.jpg All this info should start you off good, email me at g.snapper@yahoo.com if you need some more help.
  4. what BassAkwards said is true, If pop-r's a lot and that seams to be the best and ezest way to pop them!
  5. Thanks, seems bout right!
  6. you sure it's only an 1 1/2" thats really small, i was thinking it would be at lest 2"
  7. bass between 1 and 10+ pounds? Heavy cover, need rather long casts, but i do know how to wight the frogs more so, wights not much of and issue! 8-)
  8. for all yall that have them, could you get out a ruler and measure them? how long's the body and how longs the legs, both jr. model and the original model? thanks!!
  9. i've only caught a 2 and a half pounder, but i don't have a boat so it's not that bad, and i also caught it on 3lbs test in a bunch of weeds. all things considered, a nice fish!
  10. Well i was gonna give you the same link as bigbadaaron but, he kinda beat me to it, but its a great video and will tell you all you need to know, hooks, tips, and the best worms to use! But i can tell you that floating worms work the best by far they stick up so they can be seen more easily, and the don't sink to the bottom making it look dead. As far a wights,I like to use between 1/16 once and 1/8 once, when the worm is sinking, keep your line tight because a bass my come a grab it, and if you don't have a tight line, you won't feel the a would be fish! ~~~tight lines~~~
  11. I like Berkly Wooly Hawgtail, in green pumpkin color, it works well if you fish it like a frog, wight less or Carolina rigged!
  12. Yes i do have "pet bass" two of 'em, they're only about 2 1/2 inches and 1 inch. I get them by taking a net and going to a local pond and scooping in the water near land, they will look like minnows, to find them, find the minnows. As far as feeding them, I use frozen blood worms, you can most likely get them at any pet store that has fish store, I also find baby frogs and put them in, it's fun watch them get 'et, I can also get super small minnows that the can eat. You don't need much ether, i keep them in a 10 gallon tank, with some rocks, and artificial weeds. I use a ordinary filter and aerator. I also take some bigger rocks and add them to the tank. If you want more than bass, you can get small bream (blue gills) and tilapia, they get along fine.
  13. I'm just know getting into top water hollow body frog fishing, and any tips, or tricks would be great. Also which colors, wights, and modifications are best, and what are the best brands under $6.00.Any
  14. What's your favorite season?
  15. Ya the storm almost always wreck my fishing plans, I all ways end up waiting until after the storm, up some times they go till dark. About the mosquitoes, you cold but on the bug replant on when you get to the fishing spot, some of the repellent my rub off in your car. You can also bring some tiki torches that have bug repellent, it will get rid of some of the mosquitoes and give you some more light.
  16. Ya I'm i Florida to and it's HOT!! so when i do go (about once a weekend), it's at about 5:30, so i it's ether the heat that skunks me, or the sunsets with out telling me! >
  17. Me? Geez, I'd say about about 5 times a year, but that's only by the fish, i get skunked about once a year by a real skunk! ;D
