weight measuring?
I found an Argus Bean water resistant camera for 49.99 5mp and clips on tacklebox. I really like it. I also carry a measuring tape and they have a great link to estimate weight on this site. Measure Length and girth and enter numbers.

Ever go up to a stranger's house and ask to fish their pond/lake?
Thats a great story...thanks for sharing. I live in the edge of kansas City. There are ponds everywhere. I have talked my way into 2 of them. The one that I have been to one time is full of great spotted bass. The lady was absolute that no one would fish there. Itjoined the back edge of a park and people would just invade this place according to her. As we talked she said "do you have your gear?" I said yes and she told me to go fish in her yard. I sent a thank you card and have not been back, but I will. Also have 2 more that I have permission for. 1 is full of great bass I have pulled a 6 1/2 and a 5 pounder out of this pond on wacky rigged senkos. Be polite, tell them who you are. Also sympathy for their previous messes helps. I always tell them that I will not be drinking and just like to fish. Ask them if they like fish and catch some crappie or 2 pound bass and filet them and take them some is always appropriate. Play your cards right and you not only have a new fishing hole but also a friend.

Rattle Sinkos
I love Senko's. I almost all I ever use anymore. I have heard of people putting a rattle inside of them. I have thought about it but always forget to get the worm rattles when I am out. Anyone ever put worm rattles in these? I always fish wacky with them.

Another good post. I have been reading articles here for a while but did not post. So many sites have such drama. I agree fish ultimately are there to be harvested. Selective harvest and stewardship allows for healthy good fish and animals. It's why we have limits and conservation departments.- Re: for all yall that don't have a boat!
I look for non boat accessible areas. I love strip pits and smaller neglected ponds. My neighbor tells me he catches less fish since he got his boat. He spends more time looking for them than fishing according to him. I have thought about one of the plastic 2 seaters though. Would fit in the back of my trailer and maybe save some blood loss from briars.- Catch & Release Vs. Keep and eat
You mentioned the Kanawha and Ohio sounds like Parkersburg to me. PHS class of 1984. Live in Kansas City now. Miss good old WV go back sometimes and visit some family but don't get there enough. I am 42 & I remember when the ohio river had no fish except carp and cats. Full of shad now so it is a lot cleaner if you don't mind a little C8.- Catch & Release Vs. Keep and eat
I read in a recent Cooks magazine that the taste was from certain types of Algae and was very common in pond raised fish. They said Tillapia and catfish were especially prone to this. Buttermilk supposedly contains proteins that help to break the organics down.- Catch & Release Vs. Keep and eat
I am also glad to see this on a Bass forum. I love fish Bass, Crappie, and large Gills especially. I know a public lake that is stocked with large hybrid and longear panfish. The limit is 30 over 8 inches and you can catch way more than that when they are hitting. I fill my freezer with these guys a lot. I take some bass and it depends on where I am and how often it is fished and other things. I mostly bank fish on smaller lakes and ponds most of these areas are overwhelmed with dinks. Truly they get fished mostly by local kids with a worm and a bobber. 1 in particular is filled with 10-16 inch bass. Overpolpulated really. I keep some out of this pond when I want some meat. I have relocated some also. I moved a couple of 4-5 pounders to another pond that was recently built behind my house. I put them in a cooler got a pic and brought them home to a new stable. This pond is fairly new and was stocked with some small fry size fish. Also I fish some very remote rugged coal mine strip pits down in central southwest Missouri. These areas are never fished. You literally have to machete your way into some of these. I do keep fish all the time out of these as there is no one fishing them. The ones by the road get some pressure but any that recquire a hike get ignored.- Confidence
The bait is not going to locate the fish, you are the one who locates the fish. Ok let me rephrase you will have faith to throw it enough to locate fish! If I am not sure I tend to just throw everything but the kitchen sink and neglect patterning.....maybe thats just me though :-/- No more fishing for me?
I am new here and also do not have a boat. I live in Kansas City and just got back into fishing in the last 2 years. I have found some wonderful small ponds near me and have really cleaned up. Look for areas with no boat launch and they sometimes get ignored except for people looking for cats and gills and such. The Senko has worked all year wacky rigged and is still producing when other people haven't done squat. I will attach a pic of one from a small apartment subdivision pond from near my house. My neighbor said he never new of anyone to fish this and was shocked. look for overhanging shady areas and algae covered aeas. The bass will stay cooler in these than in the deep areas. Also do not forget the late evening and early morning bite in these small ponds. After dark can be awesome did not get a chance to go until after 930 the other night. The guys were fishing for cats in this pond and I pulled out 5 largemouth all around 2 pounds.- braided line for finesse fishing
Yes I can feel so well I have switched everything I have to braid. Use different colors and size depending.- Confidence
This is a good post! It did make me think. My idea of confidence is I know that a bait or lure is going to produce and locate fish if they are in the area where I am. Therefore I take the bait and work the structure and areas with it instead of taking everything in my bag making a couple of casts in some randomness and switching. I have a couple of confidence baits. Senko or Dinger would top this list. I really use very little other than these, but rig them differently depending on what I am seeing and conditions.- Need Eyewear Help
Lots of good choices! I absolutely love Muai Jim sunglasses. The polarization is unreal. I have the grey and the bronze for low light had to buy a pair for my wife so she would leave mine alone. - i feel bad
