  1. I hooked myself last week in the fatty base of my thumb on the palm. That was not bad. Once out, it never bothered me. Every time you use your finger that has to throb, at least for a few days.
  2. That would be me , my camera is cheap, most of the times I don 't even carry it and my scale, it 's cheaper than my camera and like the camera, most of the times I don 't carry it. An old trusty Langley Deliar? ;D
  3. I have a Rapala digital, and it reads to the hundredth of a pound, not pounds and ounces. How accurate is it? I don't know. One ounce equals 0.0625 pound
  4. You know, I'm not sure. Maybe it was two pounds. If I live long enough, it might become 15 pounds. Now as I recall, it might have been closer to 2.5.
  5. The moral to this story is, never ask a girl to marry you, unless you are certain she will say "NO". Did this "hero" also like to play Russian Roulette?
  6. I find the "everybody does it" excuse to be pathetic. First, I know not everybody does it, and I only can know for a certainty what I do. Ergo, since I do not do it, not everybody does it. Second, those who say everybody does it has to be doing it, otherwise, they would know what I do, that not everybody does it. The "I made a mistake" confession is worse than pathetic. A mistake is saying two plus two equals five. When you know two plus two equals four, and you say it equals five, you know you are wrong, it is no mistake and you are being deceptive. A person who cheats knows it is wrong. When they do it it is neither a mistake, nor bad judgement.
  7. I thought "jerk" baits were quite effective for catching bass. On the other hand, and for real, some girls like jerks. Look at all the proposals convicted. imprisoned murderers get from otherwise educated women.
  8. Do you use a single hook, or rig them with two or more? If a single, how often do they get torn apart from strikes below the hook?
  9. Re: Need some help naming my kid!!!! OK, I'll be the wiseguy here. I didn't go through all the pages, so apologies if someone already posted this. Since a "kid" is a young goat, why not "Billy"? Nanny, for a girl.
  10. Ooooops! How'd that get in there. A tributary of the Atlantic ain't a lake. But a money maker it is, or was, for me.
  11. Here's one source. Google "aluminum rivets" and you'll find plenty. http://www.rjleahy.com/Store/rivets/arvf.htm
  12. Braid is horrendous in the rocks, but it excels in water hyacinth and lily pads. It saws through them like butter. Four or five foot leader of fluoro, tied with an Albright Special to the braid works great on my spinning rods. I can reel the leader onto the rod, and cast without a tick as the knot passes through the guides. It will tick when reeled in because of the nature of the knot. On the way out, the braid leads. The tag end offers zero or nearly no resistance. I like the braid for its thin diameter, and its lack of memory. Casts much better than the equivalent pound test of mono or fluoro. On baitcasters, it's probably not as noticable. The great thing about fishing is that we can all do it our way. Whatever floats your boat is the way to go.
  13. Make sure the belly is bowed downward. The greater the bend/bow, the easier it will "surf". You'll have to fiddle around with the bend 'til you find what suits you best.
  14. Did you manage to land any of those trucks? If so, did you lip 'em, or net 'em?
  15. I'd be expecting the dealer to replace it, not repair it, or getting my money back. Sounds to me like a problem with the welds. Too much heat, weakening the hull material, or too little, not enough penetration to make a strong connection. A welded hull should not depend on riveted parts to maintain structural integrity. The rivets should just hold parts in place. The hull should not depend on those parts for stiffness. That's supposed to be the advantage of a welded hull.
  16. The woodwork at the transom. Is it the transom, or is it just a cross member, to which the motor is clamped? Is it plywood? First order of business. If possible, get the wood piece out intact, so you can use it to trace its shape on the new wood. If plywood, use marine grade plywood for the new piece. Marine grade plywood uses the same adhesive as exterior plywood. The difference is there are no voids in marine grade plywood. A transom is no place to skimp. When you say the drain plug looks boogered up, are you refering to the tube or the plug? Is the tube welded to the aluminum or is it a tube which passes through wood? A simple solution is to use a through hull fitting of the appropriate size to allow a plug to seal. They come in plastic, bronze, etc., but plastic would work fine for your application. Install, then cut of the excess. I you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
  17. The mods created a sticky called "Read Me - Before Posting Questions" for a reason, if a member doesn't want to follow directions, we'll call them out on it. This isn't something new that we have been doing, it's been going at least since i've been here. And i'll continue the tradition, and my kids will follow in my footsteps. This isn't done to be mean, to be a a$.s, to single out members, it's meant to help guide these members in the right direction. If we let members "Run Loose", this forum will end up like many other forums and will go down hill quick Here's where I beg to disagree with the above statement. In my opinion, that is the job of the moderators, not the membership at large. I do believe there is a "report this post" feature. If anyone has a problem with a particular post, it should be reported and the mods will handle it as they best see fit. It's not up to me or anyone else to "call them out". That is the sole domain of moderators. edit: It's not a "report this post" as I stated earlier. It's "alert moderator". Sooooo, if you really want to play by the rules ....................
  18. Today was a first for me. I was working in some thick hyacinth with my canoe. Thought I had bumped a submerged rock when I heard and felt a thump. Then I felt two or three more thumps. What the heck. It was calm. I wasn't moving. What the heck am I hitting with the boat. Then behind me came a series of thumping slapping sounds. I turned around, and bouncing around on the bottom of my canoe was a pound and a half largemouth. The question is, does that fish count as a catch? I mean, if you hook one, and it gets away it doesn't count. But if you don't hook one and it jumps into the boat, then it should count.
  19. No, you won't go backwards. If the wind is that strong, you shouldn't be on the water. Fish finder. Yes, you can. You can mount the transducer on your trolling motor. Or use a suction cup mount. You can mount it as it comes, on the transom. Mine is an Eagle Cuda portable. Uses 8 AA batteries. It will probably run fifty hours or more before you need to change batteries. That's just a guess. When I had it on most of the time, the batteries would last a month. Average more than twenty hours per week fishing.
  20. Oh yeah! That crown molding job in the bedroom got me a compressor, a Senco finish nailer, a Bosch sliding compound miter saw, and a Rigid stand to mount it on. That's all well and good, but what will you say when she tells you she now wants crown moldings throughout the house? Then come the nicer casings around the windows and doors. Hmmmm, how 'bout some wainscotting? I like tools too, but they come with strings attached. My wife is always saying something like this, "Now that you have your (fill in the blank), you'll be able to (fill in the blank).
  21. Here's your AMEN!!!!!
  22. Is the pond a bowl, or does it have a shelf which gradually drops from the shoreline, then at some point has a steeper dropoff? The pond I regularly fish has a shelf. The shallows are not truly shallow. There are few places where you can get a boat close to the shore, even a canoe. It is very rocky. Where you cannot navigate a boat there are pockets two or three feet deep between the rocks. Get away from that rocky area and there is two to three feet of water. This gradually drops to four or five feet, then drops quickly to six feet. A foot or two does not sound like much, but experience has taught me that foot or two can make all the difference in the world, in this pond. The pond averages six feet deep away from the shelf. When the fish are not biting in the shallows, I try the shelf. Sometimes they are right at the edge of that dropoff, at other times they are in the six feet depth, right at the base of that dropoff.
  23. I'm guessing the wrap is the same graphics material used by sign shops, for lettering commercial vehicles, race cars, etc. The stuff is a type of vinyl, and very durable. It is susceptible to abrasion. It should be UV resistant since it's subject to a lot of UV rays from the sun. A coat of carnuba wax will also provide a measure of UV resistance. Probably some of the glazes do as well. I have to believe there are different levels (qualities) of material. El cheapo for short term, disposable use, expensive for "permanent" applictions and in between levels. I had graphics on my business truck for seven years, and they looked as good when I traded it in as the day they were applied. Like anything else, it is only as good as the care it receives.

Uncooked bones don't splinter. Cooked bones will, and they can do serious damage. Get 'im some beef knuckles from the meat department. Most also sell bones that have marrow in them. Cost a bit more than cooked scraps, but also will do a better job at cleaning his teeth.
