  1. Great review Micro! Thanks for all the information!
  2. You sirs are not true fishermen or tackle aficionados. Have you no shame?
  3. You guys are awesome! I'm going to start jig fishing this coming year as well. How do you guys rig your trailers? For example a Zoom Chunk? Do you guys just stab the plastic right through the center of the large square? or do you thread the plastic on like threading a worm? Pics would help a lot!
  4. How do you like the Mojo bass rods? That's a sexy looking combo btw!
  5. That Dobyns rod is warrantied for 1 year...until Dec 2009. A lot of people are thinking that they will buy the rod, break it, and turn it in for a newer model. Is this going to work? Probably. Should you do it? No. Do I care if you do it anyway? Nope.
  6. Powell uses a better cork and blank than the Dobyns Champion series...if you get the Xtreme series then it is just a step above the Powell Max rods, but at that price point I'd be looking at something else TBQH.
  7. I have a Revo SX and STX and love them both. Smooth as butter (this technically makes no sense) and very reliable...never handled the Premier and I've always thought about getting one...just never pulled the trigger. Everyone that owns one really enjoys it, I feel like the lower bearing count may make the reel feel less smooth and I've read a lot of people say that the eye pops out in a lot of the reels...how true this is I have no idea, but I have not purchased one yet because of these claims. Maybe a Chronarch D when it comes out?!
  8. I've heard rumors on another forum that the Ike fishing rods use the same blanks as one of the early Berkeley rods...I don't know how true this is, but several people commented that this was true.
  9. Spinning for light weight plastics...baitcast for everything else for me.
  10. That's pretty much what I've been thinking Micro, luckily I have a bunch of VISA gift cards laying around :-X
  11. I understand that the back play does not effect the performance of the reel...I'm just a really picky person when it comes down to things like that. And to be honest I didn't notice the play the first couple times that I fished the reel because I was using spinner baits, but after I had re-spooled the reel and tied down the line to the cast control knob I noticed a wobble in the handle... I'm not saying that the back play will reduce the performance of the reel...I'm just REALLY REALLY picky. None of my Abu reels have any back play at all, which is why I returned the Curado E.
  12. Question...does this reel, for sure, get rid of the back play that the Core has?
  13. It does have a lot of back play and I actually returned it for a Revo STX. If you don't notice it or you deny that it's even there...I don't know what to tell you :/
  14. I don't care what anyone thinks...I think this reel looks pretty awesome. I've been waiting for Shimano to release a new reel that includes all of their newest technology in a full aluminum frame/side plate...and most importantly...DIDN'T HAVE ANY PLAY IN THE HANDLE! That's what drove me nuts about the Curado E...the back play in the handle and the lack of bearings in the knobs. Retrieves didn't feel as smooth as my Revo STX and had tons of back play.
  15. I tried Hybrid in 12# test and thought that it was pretty thick and unmanageable...is this because the 12# is much thicker than it's rating? Should I have moved down to 10#? And I was throwing it on Revo SX.
  16. I've used Spiderwire Stealth, PowerPro, and Sufix and Sufix is by far the better braided line to use. I've had PowerPro break on me before and my brother has lost a buzzbait because the line just snapped. Never had any problems at all with Sufix...the BEST braid IMHO. I've used both braids in all different tests too.
  17. My medium rod throws the worms and my medium-heavy rod throws the jigs. My opinion is that I'll throw a lure that is in the upper range that the rod was designed to handle. (ie. 3/4 oz spinnerbait on a medium-heavy rod rated at 1/4-1 oz)
  18. Wait till mid January...new batch of Dobyns rods coming in with different blanks
  19. SPARE SPOOLS?! This is a definite no no from the bait monkey > Just buy more reels!
  20. A man and his fishing rod/reel is like a woman with her shoes/purse, you just never have enough. Not to mention you will get more use out of your fishing equipment than she ever will with those "for fancy evenings out" shoes/purse!
