:(Took a friend of mine out to do a little catfishin' on the James. He caught 17lb, 23lb, 14lb, and 10lb Flatheads. Then a 40lb 11oz Bluecat. Followed by another 30lber. I caught a couple flatheads around 17lbs each. Good times.

Thanks. Micro, yeah, I do have on a dry top. UnderArmor as base layer, then wool sweater. Then dry top, then wind breaker. Waders and pfd. I know a guy down in VAbeach who tested the drytop with waders, with pdf in his pool and said you hardly get any water getting through. It's crucial, because hypothermia is so fast.

You could use small clousers. They're my favorite to use. But your local flyshop usually has some specially made shad flys. I usually go to Orvis (it's the only fly shop I know of in Richmond). You'll be better off with sinking line too.

On the yak, bank is too crowded and too many things to snag on during the false (back) cast. I've only got one, but we can switch back and forth. They'll hit spoons and darts too on a spinning rod. I even caught some trolling a spoon. You gotta make it. It's some of the easiest and fun fishing trips. It's 5 minutes from my house! Nice avatar by the way

42lb Bluecat, 2/8/09, James River, caught using cut bait, on a kayak. Hella fight, tons of fun.

There's a great shad run in Richmond in late March through April. I always use a flyrod for them. They're like mini tarpon. Eddie, if you make it up, I'll let you try the flyrod out. I just went catfishing today. Check out the post in "other fish" section.

sometimes it's really unproductive.... I dunno. Other days, it's pretty alright. It used to be awesome ( and by awesome, I mean crazy awesome) about 5 years ago when they had the section with the lilly pads in there.

Took my friend catfishing and got skunked. I had bluegills on bobbers and bottom riggs. My friend did manage to hook into this decent smallie though.

Went to the concrete pond again in Byrd Park (Richmond). Caught 2 around 2lbs each. Then a 1lber (no pic). All on Yum red n black paddle tail worm with no weight.
