  1. After my Promariner charger crapped out, I’m trying to decide between a Minnkota ($110) or a Noco($130) 2 bank charger. Both have 3 year warranties. Does anyone have experience with any of these two brands? Both are sold by Amazon.
  2. Don’t worry about scratches or dings! I fish with two guys who are like that. Their boats are immaculate, but they’re always worrying.....my boat has scratches, but I have fun!
  3. My Promariner Prosport 8, purchased in March, 2019, just crapped out. The wareanty was one year. The Basspro chargers only have a 2 year warranty. What’s the longest lasting onboard charger? I hate changing them every 2 years!
  4. I always heard that in Arkansas, dogwood blooming coincides with crappie spawning, then bass follow, then shell cracker, then bluegill.
  5. I recently ordered a Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv from BassPro, however Garmin says this model doesn’t have a swivel base and bail mount, which I need to mount it on the bow of my 16’ flat bottom boat. Who makes the best aftermarket swivel and tilt mount?
  6. 1) Mechanical issues. 2) High wind ( don’t mind lightning.....just don’t fish in it at all!). 3) Partners that ***** about everything.
  7. If you Store it in the dark under room temperature it should last forever. If it ‘spoils off a baitcasting reel, next time you’re on the lake, let it out behind the boat to remove the ‘set’. This always works for me. Change it often on your reels, though. Sunlight deteriorates it.
  8. The Shin knot has worked well for me. It seems less bulky than the Alberto knot. I’ve got a mental block on the Palomar knot—just can’t tie it!
  9. I get lures unless I have to fight off big cottonmouths. Then, I’ll just break the line and come back later.
  10. I was at Walmart today and they had a stack of Lews Mach 2 medium heavy 7 ft. bait casting rods, originally listed for $58, for $15 each. I bought one, and a man there said he’s purchased about 30, for door prizes. Has anyone used these rods, and are they any good. I know they’re not up to Dobyns, etc., but for $15????
  11. I’ve got yellow braid with a mono leader on two worm rods and mono on my spinnerbait, crankbait & surface rigs. Just starting off, like the others said, I’d start with about 12-14 lb. mono, for the reasons they stated. Might decide to stick with mono.—I’ve caught a lot of bass with it over the years.
  12. Same thing happened to me; my kill switch connector slipped out—long story short, I worked all afternoon trying to ‘fix’ the motor. I told my story to guys at work, thinking they would all laugh at me...well, no one laughed—they’d all done that!
  13. I’ve got a 4 stroke 9.9 hp on a 16 ft. boat, and my 3 gal tank is more than enough. One disadvantage of a 6 gal tank is that you’ll probably leave old gas in the tank. If you fill a 3 gallon at the start of the trip and run out, the lake’s too big for a 14 ft. Boat!
  14. It's a good idea to carefully review your policy with your agent, and learn what exactly is covered. Also, see if your policy has replacement coverage or depreciated value coverage. A 'used' fishfinder probably is worth what a 'used' television is. Remember, insurance is designed to cover items that you can't afford to replace--not for every little thing.
  15. Well guys, this what I decided—right or wrong. We fish mostly smaller lakes with tree lines, and I went with 61/2’ rods instead of 7’ ones. I chose three bait casting outfits; 1 medium action for spinnerbaits, jerkbaits and crankbaits, and 2 medium heavy for 3/16 oz Texas worms, etc. She ordered 3- Lews TP LFS reels @ $139 each and 2- medium heavy Dobyns Sierra rods @ $129. We’re going to BassPro tomorrow to get a Carbonlite medium action rod, line, and lures, etc. for stocking stuffers. SO was sold out of medium action Sierras. Sportsman’s Outfitters rods & reels will arrive in 2-3 days, and BassPro has their rods in stock at their Memphis store. The rods & reels will run a bit over $800, with line, worms, lures, etc. will easily make up the extra $200. These aren’t the highest end rigs, but things he can use comfortably for a long time and (hopefully) catch a lot of bass.
  16. A friend’s wife asked me to advise her on buying bass fishing equipment. He’s retiring soon and his gear is mostly junk ( he borrows mine when we fish together). Her budget is $1,000 “but I don’t mind spending more if I have to” (she said). My choice of reels are Lews Tournament Pro lfs, at $139 each, but I don’t know about the rods. We’re close to a Bass Pro, and are their rods any good? I’ve got Bionic Blade and Duckett Ghost rods, but would like to step it up for him. Thought 3 rigs would be a good start—two med-heavy rods & 1 medium, all 61/2 ‘. Any advice??
  17. I hate cleaning fish, so I don’t keep any. When friends come down to fish, we keep & eat all bass shorter than 13”. They’re pretty tasty.
  18. I’ve got a lot of 6 ft rods, because our lake had many trees with limbs that loved lures. However, the Forest Service dropped the lake 5 ft., and now 7 ft. rods work a lot better.
  19. My email is; bobandjuliaglover@gmail.com. I’ll try Zoom, but am no expert by any means! Bob Glover
  20. Our local lake has a 13-16” slot limit, so everyone has a measuring board instead of a scale. One close estimate of the weight is: Wt(lbs)=length (in) cubed /1600. That’s what I use also.
  21. How do I find out the size of my micro guides? My rods are Duckett Ghost, 6’8”.
  22. You’re right: I stand corrected!
  23. I’ve changed to 30 lb yellow braid with a 12 lb mono leader, tied with a Shin knot. All my rods have standard guides. Would this knot/ line combo cast well on rods with micro guides?
  24. BassPro has an Echomap Plus 93sv with GT52 transducer as a clearance for $599. Was originally $999. I’ve got a 3 yr Garmin StrikerSV, but it doesn’t have the mapping capabilities. Is this new Garmin a good deal, or should I wait for the electronics to upgrade. I bought my Striker a year early; the newer ones have map capability. I’d like to eventually add a Livescope on this unit, but who knows what they’ll have out by then!
