Troubleshooting Power to Headunit
This sounds worth doing. Be sure to double-check any connections, splices etc. for good connections. I recently had much the same problem and discovered a poor connection. Same thing happened to me several years ago with a trolling motor. Bet your problem is something simple.

Ozark Trails Lures
OT curly tail worms last ten times as long as Zooms, and catch as many fish. Same goes for their creature baits. However, they’re so tough you need to place the hook point on the outside of the bait, inside just enough to make it weedless. Their crank baits have caught me many fish. As Bill Dance once said: “bass aren’t bankers, they don’t care how much a bait costs.”

The Found Lures Thread
Read somewhere that a guy sank a bed mattress spring at a good fishing spot….brought it up every so often & had many baits!

Best line cutter
I’ve used the Rapala braided line scissors with success; however they’re black & get lost in the boat. Solved that problem by getting a can of fluorescent Orange spray paint & painting the handles of my scissors & pliers. Works well.

Garmin ECHOMAP UHD repair?/
Went out this morning and the Garmin wouldn’t turn on! Checked the power to the cradle & didn’t have any. Searched the power cord & found a really loose connection where the boat wire connected to the power cord. Cleaned the wires, applied dielectric grease on the connector & retightened. Everything ran fine for the rest of the morning. Looks like Todd was correct; thanks! Hope this solves the problem.

Garmin ECHOMAP UHD repair?/
Update: cleaned all the connections with electronic cleaner and cleaned the carriage holes with small craft wire. Went on the lake yesterday for a trial. Ran good for about 5 minutes, then went blank. Restarted ok, and it ran for almost one additional hr. without turning off. Going out tomorrow morning for another trial.

Garmin ECHOMAP UHD repair?/
I don’t have another unit, but I checked the voltage across the outside cradle pins & it read 12.8 volts. Both the cradle and unit pins look ok. I sprayed them with electronic cleaner, and that didn’t help. I’m going to try on the lake again this afternoon to see if that’s the problem.

Garmin ECHOMAP UHD repair?/
My EchomapUHD 93SV won’t turn on. Garmin support said if it’s out of warranty they’ll exchange it with a refurbished unit for $250. The refurb. unit only has a 90 day warranty. But they don’t do repairs. Does anyone repair these units?

Double Uni knot for braid to fluro?
I use the Shin knot as it’s a little smaller than the Alberto. I haven’t had one come loose, and can even tie it in the boat. Doesn’t work on micro guides, though. Don’t want to attempt the FG knot!

Braid-to-leader on a bait-casting rig?
After putting up with mono, I switched three of my reels to 30 lb. yellow braid with a 5-6 ft. , 12# fluoro leader. Using a Shin knot, it goes through standard guides well and doesn’t break. However the knot doesn’t flow smoothly through micro guides. I’m thinking of changing one of my mono reels to fluoro. A couple of friends, better anglers than me, use all fluoro.

For fishing tiny creeks on a light setup/1000 sized reel do you prefer mono or fluro?
Bass & sunfish are less line shy, but trout are VERY line shy. I found that out the hard way!

Power needs for Garmin Panoptix
I’ve added a Panoptix to my Garmin 9svuhd fish finder. My current 12 volt battery runs both the fish finder and my 45 lb trolling motor. Will this power source be adequate for the Panoptix, or should I have a dedicated 12 volt battery for the fish finders?

- Is a 9” Echomap wide enough for Livescope?
I’ve got a 2 yr. old Garmin 9” Echomap UHD, and am thinking about adding a Garmin Livescope. Bass Pro has them on sale now. My question is: is a 9” screen wide enough to use the Livescope effectively, or should I go larger , like a 12” screen( for another $1,500)?- Kastking braid line: good or bad?
Has anyone used Kastking’s Kastpro 8X finess braid? Their ad has it for a really good price, but is it any good? My braid’s getting somewhat worn & fishing season is coming up as soon as it gets a bit warmer!- Garmin Livescope purchase
I’ve got a three yr. old 9” Garmin Echomap UHD. A friend insists all I need to do to change it to a Panoptics Livescope system is purchase the latest Panoptics transducer, about $450, instead of purchasing the entire Panoptics system, which runs about $1,200. I know very little about the Livescope, but is he correct?- Alberto Vs Uni to Uni for braid to flouro
The Shin knot is similar to the Alberto; just make 9 loops instead of 7 forward-7 back. It seems easier to tie (for me, at least!) and makes a bit smaller knot. I haven’t had one break or slip, so far.- Circle hooks on crankbaits
The reason I’m interested is that Bill Dance used rear facing circle hooks; this makes the crank bait practically weedless ; they won’t get snagged nearly as much on logs, timber, etc.- Circle hooks on crankbaits
I recently watched a Bill Dance program where he fished crankbaits in cold water, and fitted the crankbaits with rear facing circle hooks. Sounds like it might work! Did anyone else view this show, and do they remember the size and type of hooks he used?- Difference in Merc 9.9s ?
Mercury small motors are made by Tohatsu. They’re reliable motors, but a 9.9 on a 1754 won’t set any speed records! I wasn’t aware you can convert them to 15 horsepowers.- Walmart Ozark Trail plastic worms
I’ve starting using the ‘Ozark Trail’ plastic worms from Walmart. They’re a lot tougher than Zoom’s, less expensive and catch just as many bass. Opinions??- Alberto knot question: knot cuts through leader
I’ve found that the Shin knot is easier to tie than the Alberto, and the loops don’t overlap. I always wet the knot before tightening. Never have tried the two half hitches after the knot, but that sounds like a good idea.- Why is it so difficult to find rod socks longer than 5.5 feet? I feel like this can’t be good for my 7’+ rods to keep the tip bent like this.
Not much work at all; takes less than 10 minutes/sock. One nice thing is if(when) one blows out of the boat, you only lose the cost of a tungsten weight, not a high-dollar crank bait!- Why is it so difficult to find rod socks longer than 5.5 feet? I feel like this can’t be good for my 7’+ rods to keep the tip bent like this.
Navy Toad & Fly Fisher’s answers are spot on! Just get that stuff from Amazon, shrink wrap for the tip, an empty beer bottle for a mold & make them yourself. I’ve made enough for almost all my rods ( all the ones I use) for a little over a buck apiece. Utube is your friend.- Garmin Echomap UHD side view problem
Thanks! I’ve got an iPhone, but this information will send me in the right direction. Here in AR, it’s just too d**n hot to fish anyway. Caught several earlier last week, but went out last Friday evening—water temp. was 94 degrees. Fished ‘til dark—no bites. Gotta wait for a bit cooler weather. - Is a 9” Echomap wide enough for Livescope?
