  1. Fishingbuds, Here are some more thoughts on yours situation. 1) I have seen several teeth that are symptomatic, but I can never find what is wrong with them. They come and go with pain and one day the patient calls and says that it broke. The pain goes away, but now they need more work. 2) With this tooth being the second tooth from the back you still have the option for a bridge, but it will cost more than a root canal and put more stress on the other teeth. 3) The root canal is often cheaper and less involved than any of the replacement options. 4) If you are having problems with TMJ you have a whole new set of problems to deal wtih. Most dentists will try to get you fitted for a bite splint or something similar. I am going to seem like a quack here, but I am getting better results using a chiropractor to check the TMJ than I am using a bitesplint. The splint therapy is expensive, and it never really cures the problems.....it maintains the teeth. I have seen 6 TMJ patients in the last 2 months and have referred all of them to chiropractors. Every one of them said they are have less pain (and most of them no pain), less jaw clicking, and fewer overall problems. Not exactly sure of the methods the chiropractors are using, but the results are very convincing for me as a professional. I will say that 99% of my molar root canals that I send to my specialist are 1 visit trips about 2-2 1/2 hours. Very pain free and the hardest part is holding your mouth open. I don't know your dentist, but most general dentists are not educated enough and do not use the same equipment as specialists. Just my 2 cents. This is one place you do not want to skimp on when it comes to $$.
  2. Coming from a dentist.... Depending on why you need a root canal, it is usually best to get them rather than pull the tooth and try to replace it. I encourage this in my office, but like I said....it depends on the situation. Root canals should not hurt under normal circumstances and are relatively succesful. Where I tend to see failures are in people with a history of fracturing teeth and those who clench/grind heavily. Depending on the tooth it is often adivsed to get a crown afterward to help prevent fracture. This is due to a ferrel effect (like the rings around the old wood barrels....each piece is held in placed due to the ring). I would be happy to give you more feedback if you need it. One piece of advise......specialists cost more, there is a reason for that. If it is molar tooth I highly recommend a specialist. They do nothing but this for a living. A good specialist will use a microscope to make sure all the canals are properly cleaned and filled. just my 2 cents.
  3. Prayers are with you and your family. I hope that your school is doing more than our school is about this problem. We have lost two kids on average the last 5 years due to stupid things like this or poor driving. The school is not that big (about 100 kids a class year), and instead of helping these kids through their troubles they have just said nothing. No conferences, no assemblies, nothing to address this. Kids are not totally stupid, you can talk with them, you can get them to see warning signs, but they have chosen to ignore it for fear of liability. It is shameful.
  4. Maybe you need to get one of those donut shaped inflatables for hemorrhoids. Now that would be funny.
  5. There are several forums about boating where you can get multiple answers. I have had both allstate and farm bureau. Both have taken care of me very well. There are a couple of insurance companies out there that have many complaints about how they handled claims. I am not going to name them, but you might be surprised. Also remember that there are 3 sides to every story. Yours, theirs, and then what really happens. So just because there is one little tiff don't always put too much weight into it unless it appears someone is being honest.
  6. Looks like a well thought out plan and great execution. How much lower does she sit in the water? Do you happen to have a final shot showing the entire boat? Nice work though.
  7. Keep at it, nice looking rig. This was the same style boat my grandfather first taught be to fish in. It will someday be mine after my father has his way with it.
  8. Dave, You may want to check out the iboats forums. They have a lot of info on there about decks and restoring old boats. Tons of info, tons of people to help, and tons of mistakes to learn from.
  9. Congrats.....now let the spoiling begin!!
  10. Everyone here has pretty much covered it, but think of the situation this way. For a few bucks you can correctly fix the lights on your boat, or one day another boat and you can collide because it did not see you. When this happens there is a chance that you or someone else has gotten hurt or worse. Is your life or another persons life worth a few bucks? I know mine is. You wouldn't drive a car without headlights at night would you? Seems really simple, but this is how I think about whether or not I will correct something that is potentially harmful. You will end up doing the right thing and fix the lights. Then you will be happy you did and not have to worry about the ticket or the other situation. Keep them lines tight.
  11. Red..... This seems like a simple question but, is actually more involved than you think. You seem like you are set on a 30lb thrust? Is that going to be enough for your boat (depends on size of boat, weight, and overall desire of performance)? If it is.....then great. You will definitely want a deep cycle battery for your trolling motor. Just like SAM said you can get a million answers for this one. If you are trying to stay inexpensive give Wal-Mart a shot. They actually sell a pretty good deep cycle trolling battery. I know many who have used them with nothing bad to say. I use them as well. As for a charger.....bought mine at a place called Tractor Supply. Simple set-up. Has a slow and fast setting on it. I use the slow setting when I have enough time to charge it, or if I am in a hurry I use the fast setting. I have not noticed any major effects on the battery....but I do get a better charge on the slow setting. You will also need to talk wire at some time. Come back when you get it. As for running a fish finder....remember this- a deep cycle battery for trolling should be just for that. If you are out on the lake and you are running many things off the same battery you are going to get less time on the lake. In an emergency situation I would rather have too much battery only running one thing than not enough running multiple things. Just my 2 cents.
  12. Good follow up. Nice to hear that you took a little time to investigate. You are right....better than spending another $800.
  13. Skillet, Did you already purchase the 6 gauge wire? Can you post a little more specifics on the type of TM and the info on it? Here are a couple of options that hit me just now. 1) shorten the distance from the battery to the motor 2) remove the 8 gauge wire from the plug and resolder in 6 gauge 3) double check and make sure you really need 6 gauge wire I am going to link your other thread.....I had to hunt a little to find it. If you can give me a little more info I would be glad to help. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1230068530
  14. This is dependent on a few factors. I am going to give you the exact way to measure here. This is directly from Minn Kota. In short it depends on the length of the run, the amps from the motor and the loss of voltage. Try this link for to get a better idea. http://www.minn-kota.com/Minn-Kota-faq/Minn_Kota_FAQ.htm#6
  15. According to the Motorguide website where I loked up the manul they recommend a 50 amp. Recommendations Battery Type The recommended battery is a 12- volt Deep Cycle battery. Circuit Protection MotorGuide recommends installing a 50 amp manual-reset circuit breaker in line with the trolling motor positive leads within (1.8 m) 72 inches of the battery(s). To order a circuit breaker kit, contact your local Service Dealer, request kit number MM5870.\ Wire Size For optimum performance, MotorGuide recommends the use of six (6) gauge (13 mm) wire if extending existing wire beyond the standard battery cable supplied with the product. Bow Plugs For temporary trolling motor installations, MotorGuide recommends the use of a quality plug designed for marine applications Here is the manual link: http://sites.mercurymarine.com/pls/portal/docs/PAGE/MOTORGUIDE/MOTORGUIDE%20SUPPORT/ONLINE_MANUALS/MANUAL_CONTENT/MM6900%20-%202004%20-%20OWNER'S%20MANUAL_0.PDF There is also a nice diagram for how to install the battery and the circuit breaker iin the manual.
  16. Here is a link to a circuit breaker. Make sure you get a manual reset one so you do not have to wait for it to rest itself after overloading. To install just run a wire from the positive terminal to the breaker, then run another wire from the other post on the breaker to the device you are wiring. No need to do anything with the negative battery terminal. Just run the negative terminal on the battery directly to the trolling motor. Pretty simple, get some wire connectors to make the connections easier and some heat tape to seal the connections good. probably cost less than $15 to do it all with shipping and less than 10 minutes. Not saying you have to do this, but for me it was cheaper than buying a new T.M. http://www.iboats.com/Resettable_Circuit_Breaker/dm/cart_id.062020380--list_time.1233181349--session_id.607294580--view_id.39690
  17. You are absolutely right Surfer, you do not NEED a circuit breaker. Yet for the small cost of adding one versus running the risk of accidentally ruining your TM, it seems like a little bit of insurance at a very low cost. Cheaper to buy a circuit breaker than it is to buy a new TM.
  18. The inline circuit breaker will keep you from burning up the motor. If you get into some weeds or heavy cover or for some reason you get a short in the equipment the inline circuit breaker will pop before it burns the TM up. You can also get things overlaoded by using too small a gauge wire. Mine was installed using too small of wire, an inline fuse, and I replaced it two years later after the inline fuse melted and darn near burnt the boat down. I had no idea until I was listening to others on forums like these. I changed the wire, added in inline circuit breaker (not a fuse) and now it runs flawlessly. I also found that my battery charges better and I can run for longer periods of time. Just my 2 cents.
  19. Congrats man, better get shopping for that new PFD.
  20. This could go several ways. It may just be that someone from the Pro staff will contact you about how well you like their products, kind of a courtesy call to make sure you got what you asked for. It may also be that they see you showing some interest and would not mind asking you to showcase their products and get others to buy them. Sometimes good people are treated how they should be and maybe this is just going to be one of those times. Your email might have just set right with the guy/gal behind the computer and maybe he/she wants to see if there can be something more made of it from a company point of view. It never hurts to listen, ask questions, and then think about anything they might offer.
  21. We could use a little more info from you before giving and opinion. If you have a 10 foot jon boat you might be alright, if you are looking at a 12 or 14 foot hen I would definitely move up to a 40lb thrust or more. I have a buddy who built a deck on his 12 foot jon boat and installed a 40lb trolling motor.....it hauls butt. You will need to get a 12 volt deep cycle battery- check wal-mart they actually carry a decent one. You will need a charger for that battery as well. Might be able to find one in Wal-Mart or check out a Tractor Supply if you have one near by. Most of all.......Have fun.
  22. Nice and Clean looking. Keep at it.
  23. I have had mine for 4 years and have put it through the ringer. I can say I have never had a problem with it getting up to speed. I went out and checked the pin in mine just to be safe.....no problems at all. You might actually have a "true" mfg defect. Might be worth a call to MinnKota to see.
  24. Great grab. You made out on that deal.
