  1. Probably Articaine (about 4 hours duration) or Marcaine (6-8 hours duration). Nice work for the implant. Gotta love them, easy to restore.......expensive, but worth every penny.
  2. That is a pretty funny story Rhino. I have patients who do the same thing. They always tell me that it is "Legal" to get high on my stuff. I use it for fillings and major stuff when the patient wants, but I have those that think they need it for cleanings. That is where I drew the line and they get charged for it. There are 3 patients in the office that feel they have to have it and they get charged. It is not necessary, they just like the buzz. You are right about it not making it feel numb, just takes the edge off. I have patients who take nothing for fillings and the such. I even have patients who have crown work done with nothing. They would rather tolerate the pain than be numb for anything. It is weird the variation between people and their pain tolerances.
  3. I might be able to shed some light here as I do this for a living. Welcome to wonderful world of Dentistry. First let me say this, nobody uses novacaine anymore in the US. It was a substance that cause far too many reactions and worked poorly. It was pretty much taken out of the market in the late 70's to early 80's. Now there are a few other types of anesthetic used. Most commonly used are Lidocaine (xylocaine) with epinephrine for a faster more localized effect and then Carbocaine (Mepivicaine) without any epinephrine. There are also a few others that are used for longer procedures, but for the most part these are the two that are commonly used for fillings. They both last about 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours depending on the person. I can tell you that I have two patients in my office (1500 patients total) who do not react to one of the anesthetics I use so I have to be specific in what I use. It is very rare. I also have patients who seem to burn through the anesthetic faster than others, but there are only a handful. Depending on where the cavity is you can expect one to two shots and in a difficult case sometimes a third. I know that for most everyone I have to give one shot for either a lower or an upper. Now there are times where I have to give an additional shot, but I cannot remember the last time I gave three shots for one filling, it has well over a couple of years. I am also a chicken when it comes to pain. I expect that my patients will be pain free during the entire process. This includes giving the shots and finishing the work. I want them to be comfortable and I truly do not like to cause pain. Almost every patient can give you a horror story about some guy torturing them and I do not want to be that guy. I can also tell you that I achieve this without topical anesthetic or Nitrous in most cases. I get responses all the time about how well I give shots and that they didn't even feel it. Now, if you are one of those who is difficult to numb then you might ask to try a different anesthetic. If the same thing happens then I might suggest finding a different dentist. I don't know who you use and it really doesn't matter, but there is no need to routinely get 4 shots for anything, especially a filling. With the whole side of your face going numb and down the neck it leads me to believe that maybe the site of the injection is the problem and not the former. Now as Sirsnookalot has said. Nitrous does not make you numb, it only lowers your ability to feel pain. It relaxes you and makes you less aware of what is going on. For some this is all they need to get through a filling, for others this is what they need to get through a shot. Either way it can help.....but not everyone likes it. I for one cannot stand the feeling. I also see that you only go every three years......can I ask why? I routinely see patients who wait until something is bothering them before they come in. By then most of the problem has compounded itself and could have been remedied faster and cheaper. I can assure you it is also cheaper to come in more frequently. I know it is about $150 for a cleaning, xrays, exam. It is also about $150 for one emergency visit and that does not include fixing what needs fixed. If it is a simple filling then $100-200 more and if it is something other it could be $500-1500 or more. I usually tell my patients who like to wait to make it at least once a year. Often in a year you can see changes without terrible damage, unless there is a major diet or medical issue. So for a yearly exam and such you are spending $10-15 per month. Decay can be prevented, it is harder in some people. A good fluoride rinse will help as well. Again as Sirsnookalot said, there is a direct link to gum disease and heart disease. You are 40% more likely to have heart disease if you have gum diease. The bacteria are the same. You can also share this with your spouse through contact. The hard part about gum disease is the fact that you usually do not feel it until the problem is really big. Then it costs a fortune to fix and is never fully resolved only maintained. Just my 2 cents.
  4. I am sorry to hear of their loss. I did not think it would affect me much when our dog (the dog we got for the kids about 6 years ago) gets to that point......but last week she came down with a respiratory infection and was vomiting. I slept next to her on the floor for 2 nights while she recuperated. My wife thought I had lost my mind. I guess I am kind of attached to the old girl. Kind of funny we got her for the kids and now she is definitely my dog.
  5. I am hearing rumblings of a new build for some fixes before Froyo. Maybe they are going to incorporate it into Froyo for Verizon.
  6. It is funny that you say that. From what I have read Samsung has actually releaased Froyo for other Galaxy S phones and Verizon isn't releasing their version yet because they want certain things included in the update. It seems that Verizon is the one holding up the update being pushed to the phones. Either way.....I can wait. I would rather have a solid update build than a piece of junk one that makes this phone useless. I had an LG phone and will never go down that road again. They do update their phones a lot, but whoever tests the updates does a poor job at it. They released two updates for my old phone that literally disabled the thing with constant reboots. The last one was the final straw so I upgraded to this one. Their hardware was ok, but their software was terrible. Funny it seems to be the other way around now.
  7. Got the Angry Birds Seasons and it is great as well. I also found the Spaghetti Marshmallow game yesterday and it is addicting as well. I love my Samsung Fascinate......now if version would fix a couple of little things in an update we would be all set. The only complaint I have is when typing on the keyboard I consistently hit the "," button instead of the space button or the "mic" button instead of the space button. If I could change that I would. Other than that a great phone.
  8. I too have seen this a lot. It always seems to follow a particular pattern and from what I can tell the parents end up with most of the blame. I can't count the number of times I have seen kids who have been handed things their entire lives turn out how they were not supposed to. Graduate high school....honors, athletes, prima donna types.....go to college. Either graduate doing the same thing they did in high school or drop out and begin to slide from there. Get into the real world where nobody hands them anything now and they suddenly don't know how to achieve. Too many parents have raised children too be dependent on them for everything, without teaching them to think, act, or do things for themselves. Too bad. My wife gets on my . all the time about being tough on he kids and holding them accountable for when they mess up or commit to doing things. Hopefully they turn out to be productive adults. Case specific. The most popular girl I went to high school with. Dad was the Assistant Principal and she was the star basketball player who was supposed to go on to play at college. She was an ok student and definitely a prima donna. Graduated and left for college. Daddy was no longer there to hold her hand and she dropped out after 1 semester. Bounced from odd job to odd job and then got caught shoplifting. Tried to overdose on pills cause she was ashamed. Went to therapy and found a 9-5 waiting tables. 5 years later her dad died of massive heart attack and she has yet o be right since. She was voted most likely to succeed in high school. The girl that graduated top of my class. Went off to college and got into the party scene. Dropped out and moved to NY for an acting career and music career. Found her way into some celebrity circles. Got hooked on drugs and now has 4 kids....all different dads, never been married and lives off her gov't check she gets every month. The fourth kid in my graduating class. Mom and dad didn't have a pot to pee in and he was not popular at all. Kid's hated this kid. Was as bright as they come. Graduated high school....barely because of fighting. Had more scholarship money by himself than he rest of his entire class of 87 kids. Left for college in another state and flourished. Graduated in 4 years with a double bachelors degree in Chemistry and Biology. Went on to Dental school and graduated in 4 years. Has since opened his own practice, done well and has a wife and 4 kids. Was voted most likely to end up in prison. (that would be me).

Nate is right, You are going to love that phone and the Android OS. There are apps for everything under the sun and a phone that is fun to use. I got mine about 4-6 weeks ago and have not been able to put it down long enough to give it a break. Even my kids love it......they found a tic tac toe app and they play it all the time. Keeps em entertained.
  11. Tin.....good luck with your endeavour. I am with your on your alternative treatments for things. I never believed in non-traditional medicine until my wife was diagnosed with Lupus. We tried the traditional medicines for a couple of years and she had very little success in relieving her discomfort/ alleviating her symptoms. After some research (on our own) and in talking with other professionals we decided to try some alternative treatments. Now after two years on these alternative treatments she is feeling better than she ever has and her antibody levels have dropped to a point where the disease is almost undetectable. I applaud your ability to try to solve things on your own and applaud your ability to find a doctor who was willing to work with you on your endeavour. Let us know how it works out.

I too have two bags that I carry depending on the season. It sounds odd, but I am one of those that sleeps hot too. So I carry a 20 degree synthetic Kelty bag for my cold stuff and then I just use a small fleece bag for the other stuff. You can always put on or take of clothing as needed. Was headed out a couple of years ago with some friends. Rained he entire way to the trail head where we were camping the night before we took off. Temps were supposed to be in the upper 40's for a low, but when we woke up it was 31 degrees and had 4 inches of snow. I was plenty warm with my 20 degree bag (that was the one I took just in case).......everyone else froze in their 45 degree bags. Needless to say we started our hike early that day.
  14. Congratulations and enjoy every minute. Be there whenever you can and never put yourself first. It won't be long and she will want you for the keys to the car, money for whatever she is doing, and then for the shoulder to cry on when her heart gets broken. Be a good fiend and an even better father.
  15. That will make you have to change your underwear. Very lucky.
  16. I'd send them over to you, but my wife wants a waiver and all kinds of legal mumbo jumbo and something about large amounts of cash into a vault. I can let you chat with her if you think you can convince her otherwise. Best of luck.
  17. I will have to check that game out. I have heard a lot about it, but have just stayed away from it so my son doesn't want to use my phone all the time. ps. any good apps out there to lock files. I have some text files that I want to lock for my office (personal info and such) and some nice pics from the wife that I would like to lock. I know, I know...........I have tried Vaulty free and the trouble is viewing them after you want to unlock them. You have to search the file folders to even find the files. Something simple like a password protect when you click on thee file would be sweet.
  18. I'll look into that. Thanks.
  19. Anyone else got some Apps they really like. So far I have: Weird Facts: Cool little app with weird facts to pass the time Barcode Scanner & Shopper: Price check thingy Flashlight: Tesla one would not work on the Fascinate App Brain Astro Google Maps & Nav Google Sky: got this for the kids Adobe Reader Photofluent: Nice little app for photo settings, not perfect....but pretty cool Dolphin Browser HD: got this because it is supposedly able to show sites in non-mobile format, but have yet to get it to work. I am still looking for something to transer my itunes to the phone. I have looked at a bunch of them, but have not picked one.
  20. Stopped to take this on the way home from a funeral Monday. Wish the leaves had more color.
  21. T-mobile does not have great service around my house. it works fine at the office, but not at home. Same with Sprint and AT&T. I guess that is what I get for living in the country. I was reading the local paper yesterday and there were about 10 different notices in there about multiple locations where AT&T is going to be erecting towers within the next year or so. That may change things a bit.
  22. I am with you Nate. Love the screen on this Fascinate. I agree with you on the whole keeping them in demand and then pushing them to their own phones. It is a sweet display though. I reckon the only real issue I have seen with it is just like any other electronic device you buy nowadays there has to be a ton of extra BS on it. I would like to delete about half of the preinstalled apps as they are not ones I would use. Yet Verizon has decided that this is no possible nor needed. Oh well, I will keep on messing with it.
  23. Just got my Samsung fascinate yesterday and this thing is sweet. I cannot believe the difference in speed and usability compared to my old LG Touch. The screen is super bright, nice colors, very easy to use from the touch side of things. This thing is a beast. Still playing around with it, but the more I find the better it gets.
  24. Got the Samsung Fascinate. It is sitting at home waiting for me to break it out of the box. I will have to play a little soccer with the kids first so that they don't think I am choosing the phone over them. Nate.....you are right, I will now always have a phone that I can use.....the touch has a terrible camera. I found a few new places to take photos....the wife says we can come back this weekend and get them if I want to. She is good like that.
  25. I am surprised that you were able to land him. Quite the whale. p.s. can't wait to get my new phone. It is supposed to be delivered on Monday morning!!!
