I'm a mad scientist...

Recommended Posts

So after months of reading and reading and reading, I'm going to be my own test dummy. I have consulted my doctors, along with a few biology, chemistry, and anatomy profs at my school and nothing is holding me back now.

My hair started to fall out about a year before being diagnosed with Crohns (typical recieding hairling and thinning down the middle. Needless to say I'm doing everything I can to not go bald. I have been reading about this subject for months and consulting a few profs at my school when I had a question. Now I'm ready to try my own crazy concoction to regrow hair and thicken it up without a prescription, without Rogaine, and without spending more than $30 a month. This should be fun.

The doctor wants me to have blood work done once a month to make sure everything stays well. But everything I'm doing makes perfect sense so there is a good chance it might really work.

Hopefully I will be a billionaire soon, lol.

Well, I'll certainly agree with the "mad" part.

Not going to say what it is yet. I just wouldn't want someone to try it an a major organ shut down. What I'm doing only really messes with hormone levels.

So, what you're saying is you might have to change your gender to a "she"? ;)

But seriously, though.  Is having a whole head of hair really worth risking serious side effects such as liver or kidney damage (or worse)?!  Dialysis, I hear, isn't a lot of fun.

So instead of trusting an industry of people with numerous degrees and more years of knowledge than you have been in this world. You want to trust a couple months of reading and questions to professors with your health just because of hair???

My doctor said he doesn't see how it could case any major issues. Its vitamins, a specific diet, and some minor things. Read the post. Plus profs have years of research, two of ones I talked to were doctors, one at Dana Farber for years and another at Mass General. So yes, they also have years upon years of research.

LOL at man boobs Redline...Muscle Milk and Jagerbombs take care of that.

Geez...

Buy a couple of rats or maybe a few thousand.

Experimenting on yourself is absolutely ridiculous!

I could participate as a test dummy if need be.  Other than the specific diet part.  Thats the only thing thats a little worrisome to me.

Cool! Let me know how you make out. I'm starting to part my hair down the middle as well. Besides, I'm not ready to get rid of the Flowbee yet... ;D

Oh yeah, that stuff in the spray can leaves your pillow a mess.

In all sincerity, good luck.

Tin.....good luck with your endeavour.  I am with your on your alternative treatments for things.  I never believed in non-traditional medicine until my wife was diagnosed with Lupus.  We tried the traditional medicines for a couple of years and she had very little success in relieving her discomfort/ alleviating her symptoms.  After some research (on our own) and in talking with other professionals we decided to try some alternative treatments.  Now after two years on these alternative treatments she is feeling better than she ever has and her antibody levels have dropped to a point where the disease is almost undetectable.  I applaud your ability to try to solve things on your own and applaud your ability to find a doctor who was willing to work with you on your endeavour.  Let us know how it works out.

I am just like you,...in that i am not a doctor.  So, excuse the confusion on my end,...but I thought crohns disease messes with the other end of things...i.e. You are not going for hair on the back end are you???  :'(

Just take a couple of cycle of roids to help your hair fall out, shave your head and look like a freaky muscle dude, some hot girls dig it. Nevertheless, if your experiment works I know some venture capitalist you can call if you are somewhat successful.  :-/

The bloodwork will cost you, or someone, more than thirty dollars per month.  The fact that your doc wants you to have bloodwork done once a month seems to contradict his go for it advice.

It doesn't seem wise to me that any doctor would approve of  patient using themselves as a medical guinea pig.

To do so would put them in a lawyer's crosshairs should this experiment go awry.
