If I had to guess it could be a a couple of things. I like to grind my meet and fat really cold. This keeps the fat from melting as I grind. I also like to keep mine a little on the course side for summer sausage. I find the finer grinds to be more bologna like. Just my two cents.
  2. That LCR is a great little wheel gun. My buddy picked one up for his wife and brought her over to shoot at my place. She hated it, but loved my Ruger SR9c. I offered to buy it from him and he is still contemplating. Nice little gun though.
  3. Glad to hear you are getting back to normal. Thoughts and prayers for those who were not as fortunate.
  4. Well I am glad that they have what they need with minimal damage. Trees are the last thing I am sure they are worrying about other than removing them to get the power on.
  5. Are they getting what they need other than power or are they in need of items that maybe we could get to them in some forms or fashion? I just donated a ton to a group called New World Flood who has sent a trailer out east from Michigan, and they are sending another this week I gather. Yet if they need something I am sure the wife wouldn't mind me helping out.
  6. That is a tough situation. Not to be hard on you, but you need to learn to trust your gut. Now for some insight. You need to contact an attorney ASAP. Not a good attorney, but a GREAT attorney. I know it is going to cost you, but is it worth the extra money to make sure you don't come out of this any more in debt long term than you already will be? The second thing you have to remember is that you have two kids. They did not willingly sign up to go through this divorce with you. They are there by circumstance. NEVER and I mean NEVER bad mouth their mother to them or in front of them or at any time where it can come back to haunt you. I see it all too often when one parent runs his/her mouth to the kids. Be civil and follow the letter of the law in your divorce. Remember, the courts are usually for a mother's rights and being a father can be a hard thing to understand. If you need to voice your opinion to someone then why not find a Chaplin or Priest or Pastor or Minister to talk to. Your best friend when armed with this info can become your worst enemy and same goes for family. Keep your business to yourself and follow your legal counsels advice. Good luck and remember your kids come first. Don't retaliate at either your wife or her fling. This will only make things more difficult for all of you.

You darn well better know where your family is if you are going to be shooting a rifle throughout your house. Most on here were worried about over penetration with the daughter being so close. If you are not worried about penetration then it is just a personal preference and what you are most comfortable with. Being woke up in the middle of the night to something like this I would be closest to my handgun and not as close to my M4.

Glad to hear everything went well. Good luck with the recovery and don't over do it.
  9. Obviously this is a preference thing. I personally use the Federal LE Ammunition rounds. On a side note, my LE friend and I were having a discussion the other day about "cheap" ammo and he was dead set against it. I said it was better than having none and that even most "cheap" practice round ammo will place a hole in a target. It just may not be in the same exact location or at the same distance.
  10. What a truly remarkable story. I had not seen this before and thank you for sharing.
  11. I was doing a residency at a family health clinic. Performing a consult on a lady who was debating about having a tooth extracted. First plane hit at the beginning of the consult. No TV, only a radio so we were kind of in the dark. Lady opted to not have anything done when the second plane hit and my girlfriend (now my wife) called to tell me to get to the gas station and get home ASAP. About 5 minutes later we were in a lock down cause someone called in a bomb threat.
  12. From my experience the best gun you can use is one you are comfortable with. You should follow Jim's advice and shoot a few of them before you make your mind up. I went to a range where I could rent guns and shot 5 or 6 before I bought. I had a .40 Semi given to me by my father and I hated that gun. I ended up getting a Ruger SR9c. My wife also shot many guns and she was comfortable with the same weapon. I like ths fact that recoil is light, the gun is a little heavier than a sub compact, it comes with a 10 and 15 shot magazine. I am 6'2" and 225lbs. It feela good in my hand and the smaller magazine is great for conceal. Again, it is a personal preference and more importantly, you will need to practice often. You can never practice too much when it comes to using a firearm.
  13. I have a 14 y.o. stepson who had to have one last year when he started high school as well. He is an extremely smart kid, but has little to no motivation. We have tried everything. So with him starting HS we decided to try some reverse psychology and get him one under two conditions. 1) He kept his grades at a "B" average and 2) he helped out around the house. He lost it by Christmas only to work a little harder and get his grades back up. As soon as he got it back, down went the grades again. So at the end of the school year when he brought home a "D" average his mother took the phone. He cried enough to his father that he went out and got him a new phone under one condition..............that he doesn't let his mother or me tell him when he can and cannot use it. So I have made it the rule that he can leave it at his father's house and don't bother to bring it here. Classic Co-parenting skills!! Back to the question......I am ok with my kid having one if they are a good kid and willing to hold up their end of the bargain. However, you earn it, you take care of it, and don't ignore my rules. I also ask for the phone every now and again and you better hand it right over......you have no privacy if you live in my house. My buddy is a county sheriff and he says they get called the schools all the time about kids texting inappropriate pictures to one another. They give the parents two options....1) destroy the cell phone by driving the car over it in the parking lot or 2) take it back to the lab and erase it completely with a report being made and passed along to the prosecutor. He said you would be surprised at the number of parents who say destroy it and then they file an insurance claim on the phone and the kid has a new one in a day or two. No lesson learned.
  14. There is also the old saying, "if the army wanted you to have a wife they would have issued you one." With that said........hope things have worked themselves out.
  15. I know this may not help, but if you can contact your local congressman/ senator. They may be able to push things along for you if you are not getting the answers you need. My B-I-L was being medically discharged after having a stroke and they yanked him around for almost 6 months. He finally contacted our local congressman and had his stuff taken care of almost immediately. Not sure how it will work for you, but it can't hurt.
  16. Not trying to start a war here, but I would have to respectfully disagree with you on this statement. By hiding what had happened on that campus Penn St. did gain a competitive advantage. They were allowed to recruit without any future players knowing the true crimes that were being committed. Ohio State lost a recruit this year after it was found out that he had attended a party with an Ohio State "superfan" who was a convicted sex offender. The recruit decided that it was creepy enough to not want to attend OSU and decided to attend another university. How many Penn St. recruits would have thought twice about attending a school where these problems existed? I also feel that all the negative publicity would have affected recruiting as well. The initial punishment may have been smaller than it is now, but there still would have been the stigma attached to the school. The hid this to avoid that stigma. That gave them a competitive advantage as well.
  17. Penn State got.off easy and the NCAA looks like an inept enforcer. If this thing really did go from top to bottom in covering it up, that is the ultimate punishable offense according to the NCAA. Lack of institutional control from the top down. The death penalty is the only option. Now the current players and recruits have the ability to either transfer (good luck) or ride out their entire career for a team that plays with a severe handicap. This punishment solely affects the current coaching staff, the players, and the recruits who had nothing to do with it. Give the the death penalty where they lose all revenue and are forced to still pay for facilities, scholarships, and the fines. At least with the death penalty those players who can't transfer are not subjected to torture and rridicule for under achieving. I also believe the NCAA ruled here out if their rules and bylaws. Penn State was never given a formal notice odds allegations and an investigation was never performed. This has been a bad precident for this NCAA to set and the teams to accept. I believe they have a right and an obligation to rule here, but only if done correctly.
  18. As we were told in our CCW class. You can be a sheep or a sheep dog. Those who carry are sheep dogs who help protect the sheep from wolves. Most people would not have opened fire in that theater to go after the shooter. Unless the opportunity arose we were always taught to get to safety.
  19. Can someone explain to me how a 20 something year old "kid", without a job can afford the kind of arsenal he had? This kid had enough tactical gear, firearms, and explosives that he had to have dropped between 15k-20k. Not to mention the know how and expertise needed to fabricate the explosives he had rigged in his apartment. This kid was either a mad genius with serious access to cash or something is fishy here. On the other side......this is just another reason to carry as often as I can. I was sitting in my office this past week when I was reading the local paper. The headline was "Three robberies all connected to same person". Two were professional businesses. A doctors office and an insurance office just up the road and shots were fired at both. I told the girls to keep their eyes open and watch the parking lot. My wife carried her 9mm all week just to be safe. They caught the guy Friday. Thank heavens. You just never know.
  20. If you want a phone you can pull out of the box and it works then go with an iPhone. If you want something you can tweak and customize then go with an Android based phone. I am a Samsung supporter. They offered the original Samsung Fascinate for Verizon and I am still using mine as I type. I have upgraded the SD card to a larger one and have been running custom Android software for about 18-20 months on this phone. Samsung did not release the SG2 for Verizon so do not bother looking. They released the Galaxy Nexus. It is a nice phone as well. My wife owns it. My only problem with it is that there is no SD card slot to upgrade the memory. They will BS releasing the SG3 in July and it will have a SD card slot to upgrade. If you are looking at something other than a Samsung then you have a couple of decisions to make. If you want to customize the Android software then you need to make sure it can be "rooted". Some have locked bootloaders that are not able to be rooted. You also need to decide between 3g and 4g service. Check to see what is available to you. As with any new phone, expect a learning curve. These things are micro computers as much as they are phones. Get the larger data plan if available to you. You will need it when you get used to using it.
  21. Thoughts and prayers for your friend and his family.

We have open carry here, but like others have said.....I prefer the element of surprise and the right to know when and when not to pull my weapon. I carry concealed most of the time and within 6 months of me having it my kids have completely forgotten about me carrying (ages 6&7). My wife carries about 50% of the time. She surprises me when she goes to get her gun. Like others....I have different guns and holsters to make sure I stayed concealed.
  23. come on......Tin Cup is a classic!

Have you looked at a good used Chevy Trailblazer. I have owned one for 10 years and don't regret it at all. I can do most of the work on it if something has needed to be fixed and runs very nice. Fuel economy is between 17-19 for city travel. I can get up to 23 on the highway. Plenty of power to tow with as well. Just my 2 cents.
  25. Golf, Soccer, the NBA....
