  1. How long did it take you to assemble? Never done one, but am considering doing one for the "fun" of it.
  2. I have used HP, Lexmark and Brother printers for my office and home. I would never buy another Lexmark to save my life. They use ink and toner like they are going out of style and I could burn one up in less than 12 months. The HP laser printer that I owned was nice, but the toner and drum were outrageously priced and it dies after 2 years. I do medium use for work and at home I don't do much. I now have two brother lasers printers at the office. The first is an all-in-one machine that does color and the other is just a color laser printer. Both of them are going two years strong and the toner is reasonable compared to other manufacturers. The only problem I have with them, they don't tend to printer pictures very well, but everything else is great. Just my 2 cents.
  3. Is that the M27? They are of the 5.56 caliber and can be either belt or magazine fed. Range on them is supposed to spot on at 500-800 yds. Kind of a dual purpose rifle for the field.
  4. We have been doing the garden thing for the last 5 years. We started just tilling a space in the our rather large yard, but after two years we quickly realized that our heavy clay soil was no good for growing and we would work ourselves to death doing it. So 2 years ago we put in some raised beds. Each year we have added more beds and will be again this spring. We plant onions, carrots, peppers, strawberries, potatoes, sweet corn, green beans, snow peas, tomatoes, broccoli, squash, zucchini and cucumbers. I might be missing some stuff, but oh well. We also have a local farm we visit for blueberries, peaches, apples and raspberries. My wife is a big time canning person. So we can go almost all year on what we grow. People are shocked when they see how much we put away for the year. I also planted some fruit trees this last fall so hopefully in a couple of years we will have our own fruit trees. We try to do everything organic the best we can. Anything that doesn't get used goes right back into the compost pile and returned back into the garden at some point.
  5. I agree that they landed that bad boy somewhere. Too many things point to a hijacking and have all along. Now as the pieces come out, there is no other option. They want this plane for either a ransom (highly unlikely as thay haven't said a word) or for another terror attack. They are just waiting for the world to give up looking so they can move it again.

Lol, that was pretty funny. The Michigan one is a little off though. There are no white guys left in Detroit so they would probably assume he belonged to the Michigan Militia.
  7. Nah, I am a civilian dentist located close enough to several bases who don't have full time dental staff. I am the good guy who actually takes care of you when the military dentist screws it up. The military pays like crap, but I consider it my service to my country.
  8. I live between two bases and work right next to several. I have seen a rather large amount of flying via helicopter lately at my house. Probably 2-3 times per week I have heard and seen them for the last 3-4 weeks. They fly extremely low which is rare since we are in the middle of nowhere. Also kind of odd since we have had such cold temps and large amounts of snow. I am used to seeing the flying in the late fall or early winter, but not usually this time of year (they need to get their night flying in and they try to do it around the time change). At the office I have seen almost nothing from my Marine neighbors, but I have seen a lot of movement on the army base. They also had an odd drill this last month and possible that they may continue this month. Usually it is pretty quiet here. They have been using the gun range a lot the last month as well. No major deployments going on from what can tell. Usually I am notified because I get them dental ready for overseas tours. Oh well.
  9. I don't have their sandals, but I do own a couple pair of their shoes. They are super comfortable and like you said, very stable on the terrain. Unfortunately, they are not real versed in the area of dress attire. They can be awkward to wear if you are doing more than just running to the store or for what their intended purpose is.
  10. Thank you shootermcbob. We are far from perfect parents, but we are trying go raised responsible adults. My oldest two (stepchildren) have now left our home for the greener pastures called land of no rules. They have a father who is so self absorbed he gives them whatever. Hopefully they come around, but I will be darned if my two are gonna act that way. As someone who has looked at technology in schools, we will be heading that way unless something better comes along. IPads are a cheaper alternative to buying text books anymore. As books begin to age, as material outdates quickly and as resources of information grow the IPad grows with it. It is just a fact. Kids these days learn more visually and from hands on than previous generations. Schools taught more auditory learning for those who are 40+. That whole change has only widened in the last 10 years. I am not sure we will ever see every student with one, but they are definitely using them as learning tools and for instruction in our local elementary schools. Those grades usually don't have textbooks for each child. There are a lot of workbooks and worksheets. Again, just my 2 cents.
  11. We didn't get our older two children phones until 12. At twelve they got pay as you go phones and I bought the first "X" number of minutes. The deal was they always better have enough minutes for me to get ahold of them or I would take the phone. If they wanted more minutes, they needed to use their money to buy them. At age 14 we added them to our plan with a basic phone. We paid the monthly fee for the basic service. If they wanted unlimited text or more minutes they had to pay for it out of their bank. They also had to leave their phones on the counter when they went to bed. Nobody needs to be texting or calling after a certain hour at that age. If they violated the "phone curfew" rule or they went over their minutes/ texts they lost the phone for a month or until they could pay for the overage. At age 18 my daughter got a phone with the works, but again ahe paid for the up charge. She has since quit paying and I shut the phone off. I am now the worst parent ever because all of her friends get their entire phone bills paid for by their parents. Oh well, she will learn the adult lesson that if you don't pay, you don't play. Now I have two younger children, ages 7 & 9, who don't have phones. I have am old basic phone that I have around the house because we don't have a land line. They get to use that around the house and in emergencies. They do not get to carry it everyday or need to carry it. They need to be kids who are my responsibility, not unsupervised kids who's parents think that giving them a phone makes them supervised. As you can see, our house is big on earning a privilege and not being entitled to it. Just my 2 cents.
  12. Those looks pretty sharp, but how do they sound? That is the real question.....
  13. I have some experience with modular homes. My f-i-l used to sell them for about 15 years. My wife and I have one of the last ones that he ever "built". Now as there is with anything, there are good companies and bad companies. You need to look at the floor structures, the wall structure and the ceiling trusses. Our house is built better quality than most of the local built homes. He quit selling them almost 10 years ago because it became more expensive and time consuming to have one built than it did to stick build the same identical home. He has never looked back, but still builds to the better standards. You might want to find a floor plan and then find a reputable local builder to compare the cost. You are still on the hook for the well, septic, foundation and HVAC. The only costs that can be different are the framing, rough in and finishing. A reasonable builder might even beat those costs. The other thing to consider is the ability to customize. Modulars have less ability to change from the local builders. One last thing to consider is who stands behind the work when the modular needs service. Some companies will put the homeowner in the middle between the builder and the modular company. Just a heads up.
  14. Answer 1: I don't personally think that everyone open carrying will make us any safer. The element of surprise when being attacked not only works for the attacker, but also the person being attacked. Unfortunately there are way to many people who get Steel Courage when carrying and would become more confrontational because of such. We as a society will always judge others based on appearance and carrying an openly visible weapon won't change that. Case in point- Michigan State University had an alert issued this week saying a man with a gun was seen entering a building. The man turned out to be an ROTC recruit with a training weapon going to the ROTC offices located in the building. It is all a matter of perspective. Answer 2: I do often consider that the other person could be well armed. Part of carrying a weapon is knowing how to use it and being proficient at using it. If you always second guess yourself or your ability you probably don't need to be carrying. Part of my training is learning to assess the situation and remove myself of at all possible. If it gets to the point where I am forces to pull my firearm then I have no other option. My experience is that ultra agressive people usually do it for attention and to get others do give in to their demands. Answer 3: In the State of Michigan any business owner has the right to say if you can or cannot carry. In Michigan most employees are at will. If you can't follow your employers rules at the work place then you can either seek other employment or you can ask to discuss the rules. I let my staff carry as long as they are licensed, but I know other employers who strictly prohibit it. Not really any different than visiting a place where you cannot carry, they have the right to ask you to leave. just my 2 cents.
  15. My wife grilled a pork tenderloin last night. High temp was 10°F when she started and was down to 8°F when it was done. Just need a little more charcoal to keep it hot enough. Kids and I chowed on dinner.

Not toasted Crust on Chunky PB any one of my wife's homemade preserves homemade Amish white or wheat My son likes raw honey on his and he will only eat creamy PB. My daughter likes the marshmallow fluff and creamy PB with no crust. In the last three years we have started to eat less processed food and have stores more from our garden. We also are lucky to have neighbors who share their fruit crops because they are abundant. So much better for your health, but like Redline Robert said....makes it hard to eat out.
  17. Sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

I had not seen that new Glock either. I will definitely be calling around tomorrow to see if I can get one in my hands. I would like to shoot it before I purchase. I am not a huge fan of shooting the LCP, too small for my hands. Hopefully this Glock will fit a bit better. I also see they released the Glock 41 at the same time.

Congrats! My only hope is that my wife will let me live that long.
  20. We had T-bones, sauteed mushrooms and brussel sprouts. We prepared it as a family. We love fresh brussel sprouts. Cut the ends off and remove and dried leaves, quarter then and blanch in boiling water for 4-5 minutes. Sautee some bacon and chopped onion in a seperate pan with a little EVOO. Finally add back in the brussel sprouts and saute until you see some caramelization. My kids love them this way. Was a great dinner, nothing like firing up the grill on a chilly 17° evening.

Ok... so you will all think that my wife and I are bonkers, but this is the product that we use around our house when someone has the flu. It will work for most any flu like virus and we swear by it. When the H1N1 flu was the latest pandemic we used this on our two sons who tested positive. Both had their symptoms resolve in less than 12 hours and were back to normal function within 24 hours. It was recommended by a chiropractor friend of ours and we have since passed it on. We get it Wal-Mart or a local pharmacy of your choice. It is best to take it as soon as you feel symptoms, but it will work even after an extended delay to reduce the symptoms. It is all natural and no side-effects. It has a sugary taste and no after taste. Just my 2 cents. http://www.oscillo.com/
  22. Last night we hit -16 degrees with a wind chill of -40. When I woke up this morning it was -14 degrees with a wind chill of -33. Got to my office and the vacuum pumps are frozen and the air lines seem to be froze somewhere as well. Hoping to get them unthawed soon as I have already called of 1 day this week due to extreme snow.

    Prayers sent. Keep us updated.
  24. We got 10" here in my neck of the woods (Michigan) the past two days. All light and fluffy stuff. Awoke this morning to -18° without wind chill. -25° with wind chill. This was all after getting 8-10 inches the week before Christmas, then having a quick two day melt off and an ice storm the Saturday and Sunday before Christmas. Lost power for 5 days and then this all hit. Has been a heck of a winter so far.
  25. You can change the energy of the round by changing the amount of powder used. I like to use pellet form powder and I usually use two pellets (50 grains each). This will get me from 50 yds to 200 yds easily. If you want to shoot more distance, use 3 pellets or a higher grain pellet. For most of my shots, I could probably get away with using only 1 pellet of powder as I try to keep them between 50 and 100 yds. Like I said, I am fairly new to ML hunting, but this is my basic understanding from shooting and learning.
