  1. I do believe that you might be supplied by the refinery located in Indiana. They had a fire and have shut down the refinery and that is why prices have risen in your area. Same here in Michigan. Everyone else has seen a substantial drop and our prices rose 30 cents yesterday to an average of $2.68 in the area. They are still predicting sub $2 by the end of September here even with this shutdown.
  2. You need to call the VA back and ask for an outside referral to a non-Va dentist. I see VA patients all the time and am getting more and more referrals as my name gets out there. Patients get their work done quicker and usually with better outcomes. Only problem I see is when they don't preauthorize the needed work and I have to wait for the approval and the time it takes to get paid by them. I don't have an in office crown machine because I have not been sold on the new Cerac Machines (cost vs income is not there yet for me), but 2 weeks is my turn around and as long as you are in a temporary it really shouldn't matter. Root canal are done by a specialist I refer to and 3 days is about the turn around. Double up on the antibiotics for and out round couple of doses and you should good in about 24-36 hours. If not you will need a different prescription as they are not working.
  3. May God be with you all as your family goes through this.
  4. Thanks for the info. Good to know about the thin material area on the polymer lowers. Looks like I will just get an extra 80% to work on for the wife and keep it as light as possible. Michigan is gun friendly, but not full auto friendly. Gotta move to Kentucky if you want that friendly.
  5. How was completing that 80% lower? I am considering getting a few myself to complete. I have been looking at completed uppers just for the sake of easy install, but may piece those together as well. Btw...anyone ever use one of the polymer lowers? I am considering one for my wife to shave some weight off.
  6. We built our home back in 2003 and we have used propane the entire time. We would go through about 1500 gallons a year to heat the home (~2500 sqft). Well a few years ago we had a really mild couple of winters so I saved the cash and invested in more attic insulation. We had 10-12 inches of blown into the attic as it was, but I added rolled r30 over the top like a blanket. Did the same thing at my office as well, total cost about $1000 for both places just materials. The last two winters have been cold as heck and I just had my second fill up of propane this winter. Total so far is 550 gallons and there is a chance it will get me through until next fall if spring hits a reasonable time. We also upgraded our thermostat to a programmable one and drop the temp in the house at night. No other changes and the insulation has already paid for itself after last winter and this one.
  7. I bought an IWB from them about 9 months ago. I like it and it is very comfortable to wear. Only downside I have is that it can be a little difficult to put on and take off from my belt. Other than that I love it. Price is a positive as well compared to others of similar quality.
  8. Ok, after reading this whole thread I am going to go out on a limb and say something completely unpopular here. Let me start by saying that I am not anti-vaccination, but I have some serious questions in regards to how they are delivered and when they are delivered. My experience is that of a father who had a child get a combo vaccine to start public school at age 4 and he ended up having a severe reaction to it. It could have very well killed him, but we were reassured by our local physician and the CDC that this was a rare occurrence and that vaccine was safe. 18 months later we took our youngest daughter in for her combo vaccine and when we inquired about which one she was getting our physician said that the one our son had was pulled by the CDC because too many kids were having reactions. RED FLAG!! After a ton of research and listening to medical professionals my wife and I have decided that our children will no longer be vaccinated until they are closer to being teenagers or unless we travel outside the country. Let me post some links to a few of the many articles I have on vaccines. Please take time to read them and educate yourself. I can go on and on for hours on this subject and yes I have been called an idiot many times and even stupid (my education begs to differ). Again, I am not anti-vaccination, but I am against the current protocols and delivery methods. I am not hoping to switch you to the "darkside", but I am hoping to give information that is not only opinion but also scientific. http://www.vaccinationcouncil.org/2012/07/05/herd-immunity-the-flawed-science-and-failures-of-mass-vaccination-suzanne-humphries-md-3/ http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/herd-immunity-myth-or-reality http://vaccineimpact.com/2015/arizona-cardiologist-responds-to-critics-regarding-measles-and-vaccines/

Prayers for you and your daughter. It will take some time to recover, but kids are pretty resilient. Take good care of her.
  10. That is a nice gun. I got the SR9c in black and my wife got the stainless one. I preferred the 9c due to the smaller carrying profile, but a big guy can conceal the regular SR9 pretty easy. Nice choice. Now if Magpul or someone else would make aftermarket mags for the thing.
  11. If you are looking to build and have any aptitude you can do this pretty easily. If you are nervous you can buy already assembled complete uppers and lowers and just pick what it is you are looking for. Stripped lowers can be had for as low as $45, Complete lowers can be from $110 to skies the limit. Uppers can be had from $280 to skies the limit. I was just looking last night for a lower and upper for my wife. I know she will shoot...but not as much as me and it will be purely a plinking gun. I found a polymer lower for $110 online and a 16" chrome lined upper with a quad rail handguard and BCG/CH for $349. Both have free shipping and my buddy get $20 for the lower FFL. All chambered for 5.56. That is not a Colt or Daniel Defense or SW, but it is a good reliable plinking gun for my wife. On a side note, you can then order a 300AC Blackout upper and be ready to roll with either round by changing out the two uppers.
  12. We have always used the diesel fuel method as well. Not a ton of labor, you don't have to struggle with heavy equipment or chains and you can work on other projects while they burn. Heck, if you look at commercial grade stump removing powder it is just salt peter. Mix it with a little sulfur and charcoal and the stump will go boom.

I suspect you will fall in love with it. A very nice gun and easy to carry if that is what you are looking for. As for your wife, mine absolutely hated the small .380 pistols on the market like the LCP and the Bodyguard. She said that they didn't feel comfortable in her hand. Plus the recoil can be a bit much for that little pistol. If you get a chance check out the SR9c or the M&P Shield if she isn't comfortable with the smaller guns. Just my 2 cents.

Went up 25 cents Tuesday here in Mid-Michigan.
  15. He truly was one of the great ones. His story is that of strength and courage. He lived life fully and his legacy already is showing in those who have spoken of him since his passing. He touched so many. RIP

My friend bought his wife the Ruger LCR when she got her CPL last fall. She was intimidated by it so she would not carry it. It was too big for her hand and just made her uncomfortable. My wife felt the same way with it. Now my buddy and I loved it. He ended up buying his wife the Ruger SR9C and using the LCR as his backup weapon when he is on duty. I thought it was a nice gun, reliable and the weight was pretty good. Give it a try.

I am gonna skip the first question and let someone else answer that. Opinions on caliber of bullets and their ballistics differ greatly and we all know that opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one. As for the second question...is your wife familiar with guns at all or did she grow up around guns? If this is a no, then you really need to get her acquainted with them and what purpose they serve. I grew up around guns, but never handguns.....my wife did and she was the one who convinced me to get our CCW's. I was oblivious to what was going on around us and she made me become more aware of our environment. You need to have a serious discussion with her and not a macho kill everything kind of discussion. Lay out your concerns and why you feel the need has become important. Then introduce her to a range where she can watch you shoot and then offer to let her shoot a handgun that she would be comfortable with. Too often I see guys hand their spouses the largest gun they can find and think it is funny to have them shoot it. It isn't funny and can be down right dangerous. Start with a small 22 or something that doesn't kick. This isn't an overnight process and is gonna take some time. Good luck!
  18. I carry the SR9C as well. Probably as many rounds through mine with no problems. My wife has the same gun and she loves her too, no problems either. I have 4 holsters depending on what I am wearing. I like the FOBUS Holster for the cooler months when I can just throw a jacket over it and I don't have to worry about tucking it away. If I am wearing shorts I like to use my Remora Holster and they make it in a waterproof version so the sweat doesn't get to your gun. If I am just wearing slacks or a jeans I like my AlienGear IWB holster. They have a great warranty and several options to choose from. Sorry for the jack.
  19. There is absolutely nothing wrong with obtaining and CCW and a carry gun for protection. I have one, my wife has one and our family shoots regularly. We have gone beyond the basic training for our CCW and did so based on the changing of the times in the area we live and work. My concern is you feel a threat in an environment where there are a lot of people present and opening fire. 15-17% of rounds hit their intended target during the heat of moment. Those extra bodies in the bar or club can quickly become casualties. I am not sure I would carry in that environment where there is such a high risk for hurting others. Now to carry it into the building and lock it up while on the floor and retrieve it before I left, I get that. Again, just my 2 cents.
  20. While I fully support your right to carry, in this situation, you really need to think outside the box here and the long term ramifications of carrying as an employee. Who is gonna be responsible for the liability of you carrying that weapon? Why isn't the owner carrying if he is that worried? Mace typically will not kill another person, a bullet can. My daughter was witness to a bouncer opening fire in a bar where she worked. Nobody seems to know the entire situation, but it is rumored that the owner of the bar had a "no guns allowed" policy and may have not strictly enforced it. At the end of the night there was a patron who was shot by the bouncer after being hit in the head with a bottle. More than one shot was fired and this placed was packed. My daughter was standing back to back with the bouncer when he opened fire. He made every effort, by her words, to remove others from the line of fire, but that is a huge risk. Now the bar is claiming they had no knowledge of him carrying and they have hung him out to dry. Not saying your situation is the same, but you should train heavily and determine when you would be willing to use that gun to protect yourself. Just my 2 cents. If you are serious about carrying you definitely need to take a class and go to a range where you can rent guns. Shoot several of them and see what is comfortable to you. Everyone is different and everyone has an opinion.
  21. I have been blessed by the big man upstairs so many times over my life that I try to pay it forward when I can. Whether that is paying for a struggling families groceries as they are standing in line trying to figure out what the to put back so they can afford all they got, paying for a table of Marines' dinners, doing free dental work on a struggling single mom who waits tables, etc... My favorite time was during our honeymoon. We were building a house, just paid for a wedding ourselves and I inherited a pre-made family so money was a little on the tight side I thought. We went out for a quick breakfast one morning to the local Bigboy Restaurant before we headed off for our daily adventure. In walked a young man who was seated and then given a menu. You could tell from the look on his face that this was a huge treat for him and he almost seemed guilty as he sat there counting change from his pocket to figure out what he could afford. He was in his work uniform from the local Wal-mart and knowing the area he was more than likely supporting his mom and family. When the waitress came to take his order he turned down a drink so he could order a cinnamon roll because that was all he could afford. When asked if he wanted eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, or anything else he said, "No mam, this is all I can afford...thank you". I called the waitress over to our table when he wasn't looking and bought that young man a the largest selection of food any teenage boy could eat. I even bought him a "to go" lunch. The look on his face when all that food came to the table was priceless.....he told her there had been a mistake and that he couldn't afford it, then she told him it had all been paid for and that there was a lunch as well when he was done. I don't know where he put it all but that kid ate everything on the table and had the biggest smile on his face. Made my whole day and I still get smiles as I think about it. I grew up extremely poor. I wish that nobody ever had to go through that, especially a kid. I worked to help support my family too I am fortunate to have parents who pushed me to get an education and make something of myself. Today, we take our kids to the local Rescue Mission to volunteer once a month so they can see how others live. Puts a lot in perspective for them.
  22. I have the TC Impact and love it. Have used it for the last two seasons of Whitetail Deer. Was looking for a good shotgun when my buddy said to check out the muzzleloaders and he couldn't have made a better recommendation. He was using a CVA Optima and after he shot mine he went out and got the TC Bone Collector. That is a nice shooting gun. I use 2 pellets of pyrodex and 245 grain PowerBelt hollow points. Took one deer at 125 yards last year with very little drop (maybe 1-2 inches). I am going to get some ShockWaves this year to try as I have also heard great things about them.
  23. I have read the same thing, but there is way more into it than just the tomatoes. The soil type, the water, the growing season and many more factors play into the acidity of a tomato. Would be impossible to make a general statement that the tomatoes themselves were less acidic. I am sure they have crossbread some to be less acidic, but I doubt the tomatoes as whole have changed. I also grow using heirloom seeds so that can make a difference as well. When in doubt just use the lemon juice or pressure can. My wife has been doing it this way for a while now and only ever had one jar of Salsa go bad...we knew it the moment we grabbed the jar and the top wasn't sealed any longer.
  24. My wife cans all the time and she says that tomatoes already have the right pH so there is no need to add vinegar or lemon juice. She said if you feel the need, then use the lemon juice in the bottle. You get a consistent pH with that and no variation. Doesn't take more than about a teaspoon she says. Just her 2 cents.
  25. I completely understand when you are buying one component at a time, but if you bought everything and had it all to assemble was what I was asking.
