  1. i would suggest you go with the heavy / moderate fast ....
  2. what is the biggest anyone has bored (reamed) out a FUJI ACS reel seat ??? the biggest is 17.5 mm , but has anyof you gotten them bigger by boring them out and what size can they be made to (18,18.5,19 ????)
  3. that is exactly what my dilema is , for micro guide tops , the biggest tip top is a size 7.5 and the blank i'm gonna have made has a size 8 tip i have heard of builders splitting the tube and with good wrapping , it will work out ok and be neat . i am gonna have all black thread wraps on the guides so i hope it can come out nice and still be strong ... can anyone post a pic or two of a split tip top and what it looks like wrapped , if that is not too much to ask ;D thanks ...
  4. was wondering if most rodbuilders can modify a 7.5 guide tip to fit a blank with a size 8 , blank tip ??? want to know this cause i'm gonna have a rod made that has a size 8 tip , but the guide tip i want to use only goes up to size 7.5 . please , all you guys that build rods can you give me some feedback , thanks
  5. i think byron velvick is still on the team ..
  6. i fish frogs ALOT and have tried them all , the best frog i have ever fished is the CANYON PLASTICS 4.5'' frog , it is a soft plastic frog but has a tube like body that collapses very easy , i tried the rage tail toads , like them but the canyon plastics are alot better and all i throw now , give them a try here is a link http://www.***.com/descpageFROGSCP-CPF.html
  7. it looks like you put 7 treble hooks on it !!! , that is a weapon !! and a bait you don't want to drop on the carpet
  8. you might want to try P-line CXX in 6# test line , i use it on my 2500 size reels with no problem . even in 6# , the line is very strong and excellent for drop shotting and weightless plastics ....
  9. my spool of carbon pro was ancient !! it was like $3.00 for a 200 yrd. spool ..... ;D
  10. i use the improved clinch for floro , mono , copoly , and braid . with no problems
  11. the reflexxions rod is nice , but their EVX rod is VERY nice !!!!! and only $100.00. check it out -http://www.okumafishing.com/family/297594/EVx
  12. i think it is caused by old line . i got some Seaguar Carbon Pro that was marked down and when i spooled it on a reel i ran it thru my fingers and got that chalky residue you are talking about , i am positive it had sat on the shelf for a long time . anyhow , maybe Seaguar floruocarbon does that when it gets old :-/
  13. ABU GARCIA REVO S !!!!!
  14. also wanted to mention , try the shad , silver shad , and baitfish colors ( that is if you have shad in your fishing spots ) they flat out catch fish !!!!
  15. i don't use the 4'' talon , but used to use the 7'' one and i like the longer baits cause they get more body movement than the 4''and 5'' ones that are more stubby and just have the boot tail swimming . they are good fish catching baits , after seeing this post , i'm gonna have to replace the 7'' osprey that i cast off and pick up some of the 6'' ones also, so try the 6'' or 7'' baits and in my own opinion , stay with the "full" body Ospreys , better swimming action than the flat top ones ....
  16. the hooks they are talkin' about are the recommended Owner hooks that work best with that bait .
  17. i really couldn't see some one order a rod from g-blanks "off the shelf" , that would be pointless in my opinion . for the same cost (or just a little more ) you can have it built HOW YOU WANT IT !!! that is the whole reason behind going custom .........
  18. another good co-poly line is IZORLINE XXX , an excellent line that is smooth and supple , therefore retaining less memory and doesn't kink as easy in turn keeping the line strong throughout and not causing weak spots .
  19. i appreciate all the responses !!! i have decided to go with the micro guides with a spiral wrap . actually , i think all my rods that im gonna have made are gonna have them . i have talked to a rod builder that swimbait fishes and he said that the micros will hold up fine and afford me longer casts and a more stable rod when pressure is applied . btw , im pretty sure im going to go with the alconite micro guides .
  20. the rods i posted were made by G-blanks . but now i'm stepping up my swimbait rods so those two will be replaced by "full" custom rods !! i agree that with the choice of factory rods out there you can pretty much get want you want in a factory rod , BUT , when it comes to specialty rods like swimbait rods , to get exactly what you want and to get options that are not offered ANYWHERE , you have to go custom !!
  21. with glass rods , they have a parabolic bend to them , making them optimal for crankbait fishing with small treble hooks . for me tho , i would choose a graphite rod because they are alot lighter and are effortless to cast all day !!!
  22. here is a picture of my two swimbait rods , the one with the silver reel ( REVO TORO 51) is rated for 3-8 oz. baits and the one with the black reel ( REVO SX ) is rated for 2-6 oz. baits , i now have a REVO INSHORE on it . btw , they are both 7'10'' rods .
  23. been having my swimbait rods made with rainshadow blanks (ISWB945 and ISWB946) but my new swimbait rod ( the one in this post i mentioned) is gonna be built off a Reaction Strike super magnum musky blank that is rated for 4-16 oz. baits !!! i think i am gonna go with micro guides also ... but some other rods i am gonna have built are also gonna be built on the rainshadow blanks . they are very good blanks . i want to have made a 7'6'' medium powered -moderate fast action rod to be used for crankbaits that will be built just like the swimbait rod . and also a 7'6'' medium heavy-fast action frog rod , both built with micro guides , minimal eva split grips , FUJI ACS reel seats , and are spiral wrapped ...
  24. most all of the tackle stores around my area closed up the only other tackle store (independently owned) around here is run by a crook , but there is one that is a chain operated one that i frequent alot , mostly to buy trout bait and occasional hooks and stuff , and a guy who works there that is into swimbaits alot like me , plus they stock line that i use for most all of my setups and the line is fresh , not stuff like wal-marts that has sat on a shelf for years !! but most of my bigger purchases like reels and such are done thru good ol' ebay , no tackle store can touch e-tailors prices !!!
  25. those look very good , thanks for sharing . gots to get some of those , revenge makes some nice spinnerbait colors
