Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
What's up, everyone?! Figured I'd bounce on here, say hi. I got so tied up in chasing fish this year, I forgot to do anything else. I hope you all are happy and healthy in this new year, and have big plans for '17, like I do! I had an amazing 2016, both fishing wise (had the best year I've EVER had), and life wise (started my own business), and I'm gonna ride that Freight Train right through the record books in 2017. I broke my PB (for New England) this year, which has stood at 9-1 for over 5 years, and inched me closer to that double digit mark for NH fish. I'm at 9-4 now, and have a handle on at least 3 places that I've found fish as big or bigger, so I don't plan on holding onto this PB for 5 years. Hope to see you all on the water this year, and best of luck to you all!

Exactly how long do you you expect to keep your "secret honey hole" a secret? By the way, if you go across there to that far East shoreline in the background, to the right of the beaver hut, in the cove where the rocks come down to the water, there's a hump out about 20' from shore, with 7' water on the back of it. Stay back, cast onto the rocks, drag your bait into the water, and slow roll it by that hump. See ya around, and think, McFly!!

Oh yeah, that's what I meant. The thing is a stick of fish-catching dynamite!

Favorite top water for largemouth?
For plastics, the Rage Shad has been ridiculously good to me. Love it, and I'll fish it forever. Megabass Popmax in Bone for a hard topwater bait.

Fishing Rage Craws like Toads
Space Monkey on top is awesome, give it a try! My son catches 'em on a weightless Craw all the time.

Yup. It IS going on. Got 3 fish today in about 5 hours, but one was a 5-3, and the others were chunky 2.75ers. All of them hit a Pearl Slide Swimmer 145 worked wicked slow, just subsurface. Water finally hit 40 degrees, so still cold. If you're patient enough, you can catch 'em. This coming week is going to get 'em moving and eating more.

Ultimate Swimbait rod
I can feel it inside me, Dwight. NH State record is going DOWN!! As for the rod, I cant put it down. It's my favorite by far. I keep coming up with excuses to throw something big, just so I can fish it. Now I kinda want him to make me the twin, but in the next heaviness class down, to cover 2-5oz baits. Bump the Guide select out of the lineup.

That bait looks like a confused bathtub squeeky toy. I agree though, either fish jigs and jerks, or search 'em out with a swimbait. XXslow sinking, suspending, or slow-rolled big baits for me right now. Let's see some catches from the weekend, guys.

Perch are savages!

They were most likely pond shiners. I saw a few dead ones where I was, too. Not sure what kills them, but its common to see in this cold water. Either way, I'd make sure I had a little something that resembles them.

What'd you bring, and what worked
Today was freezing and breezy, but the wind calmed down a bit, and even though it never made it out of the 30's, the sun felt nice, and I was planning on looking for fish today, see where some might be found. I brought 3 setups. One swimbait rod with 20 mono, one jig rod with 17lb floro, and one crankbait/jerkbait rod with 12 mono. I figured I'd use the jerkbait to locate any fish, if that worked, go with a swimbait to see if any big takers in the area. Also was planning on targeting a couple rocky areas on the West end of the Lake where it warms the first, with a football jig, hit laydowns with a brush jig, and possibly slow roll a Rage Blade along if there was anything going on. swimbaits and jigs and a few cranks and jerks Unfortunately, my time on the water got cut short, and I only got to mess around for about an hour. No fish today, but I did learn that I like the smaller SWavers on 17lb flouro better than on the heavier mono, that's for sure. Anyway, I'll stay after 'em if you do.

What'd you bring, and what worked
Yesterday was very windy, pretty darn cold, and most places around me still had ice on them last week. Now things are open and fishable, and I've been caged up in my cave for so long, I'll fish whenever I get the chance. I figured I'd only be able to take a few hours of abuse yesterday, so I kept it light. 2 rods, both my swimbait setups. I went yesterday, with the intent on 1) learning a couple new baits I haven't fished yet, 2) to get better accustomed to my new combos, and 3) to MAAAAAYBE get lucky enough to run into one bite from an early roaming big girl (It does happen, sometimes earlier than some people think. Guys are catching fish all over, even here in NH). So, here's what I brought... 2 rods, both swimbait rods, one with 25lb mono, and one with 20lb mono. For baits, I needed to check out the bass and bluegill baits, hadn't gotten them in the water yet, and a couple others that I brought to fish my conditions. Oh, and a jig. Never leave home without a jig. I figured if I was going to get into one, It was going to be on a big perch wake floater I could work really slow on the outskirts of the warmer flats. It was another day of moving fronts, so I didn't expect them to be doing much in the 38 degree water, which is also why I brought the SWaver 200 (the carp bait, top left). That bait is basically like using a huge suspending jerkbait when you use 25lb line. What worked? Well, I didn't run into any fish, but I did accomplish my other two goals for the day, and it sure beat painting the garage!

What'd you bring, and what worked
So, I got to thinking yesterday while out on the water, about information sharing, and helping others find success in bass fishing. I know personally, that information I've picked up on this very forum, has helped elevate me to higher levels, which I believe is what most people want. Sometimes it's a big thing, like bass movements and patterns, sometimes is the tiniest tid bit of info, like why one knot is better than another for this condition. 10 years ago, if you would have told me, that today I'd be using 25lb mono for bass fishing, I would have given you a funny look. But there is a time and a place for everything. I also realized, that most guys that want to go fishing with me, want to go with me to LEARN something from me, and I love that. Helping other people get a new PB, is one of the most satisfying feelings I get out of this sport today. I would like to help you get a new PB, too. We here in the Northeast have similar seasonal patterns to think about, so I'm pretty much mostly relating to this area. So, I'm going to do a running thread on my outings (not every single time I go out), and invite you all to do the same. I'm going to expose what I chose to bring with me to fish, and why I brought what I did. Things like equipment, rods, line choices, and baits. I'm also going to talk about my successes and/or failures. And I'm going to use pics/vids whenever possible. Hey, even if no one else gets into it, at least you'll know what's up with what ShaneJ is doin' !! Have fun out there, all, and I'm looking forward to hearing all about your fishing trips, so we can all help each other catch more or bigger fish!

Ultimate Swimbait rod
That is a 301, my friend. Aaaahh! I'm literally doing it now. Got some ST 41's going on the Slammers immediately. Yeah, was just basically tuning baits and stuff, but you're right, that would be when the biggest fish in the lake wakes up, when I have the world's crappiest hooks on! Good lookin' out, man!

Ultimate Swimbait rod
Shoulda mentioned, it's built on an 8' MHX blank, 3-8oz. Split foam grip, micro guides, gold accents to compliment the reel, and a couple personal touches for fun.

Ultimate Swimbait rod
So, for a long time, I have considered having a rod built just for me, to do precisely what I want it to do. Well, I recently made up my mind, that the next rod critical to my full-spectrum arsenal, was a swimbait rod to handle the upper end of what I want to throw. So, having made up my mind that I wanted to go custom, there was only one person I wanted to talk to. That helpful guy that's been building people their dream rods for years, and servicing our reels to better-than-new condition, Mike, at Delaware Valley Tackle. I cannot stress enough, that your builder, is your best friend in getting the rod of your fantasies. You gotta have a vision, and have someone on the other end who gets it, and Mike GETS it! Awesome guy to work with, and his rods are simply amazing. For my project, I wanted performance first, comfort and balance was important to me. I had envisioned a simple, classy, but with a sophisticated finish, rod that I would not need to upgrade ever. I think I chose the right guy. Thank you, Mike, for an amazing rod. Your attention to detail, and the quality in your work, is mind-bending. I haven't stopped fishing this rod since I got it, and it is KILLER! Wooo Weeeee! This rod's gonna be in my hands for a lot of hours, and I couldn't be happier!! If you're on the fence, just call DVT and chat with Mike, you won't regret it.

At least now most of the water around me is iced out, so I can start using all this stuff, but here's a few more goodies. " but, Shane, what are you ever gonna throw those big old baits on?" Well, the crown jewel of my arsenal just arrived today, as well. Built by one of the best in the business, and one heck of a craftsman, Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle. My new swimbait beast, "The Record Breaker" has landed. Built on a 8' MHX blank, can handle all my 3-8oz bait throwing needs with ease AND style! Of course, paired with the new Queen of the reel arsenal, the Calcutta Conquest 301.

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
Went out today with a buddy to test out some new baits and stuff. Wind made it tough to really operate, but it was nice being up on plane on an open lake again. What wasn't so cool, was casting off a $50 bait, on the very first cast with it, and nope, it wasn't a floater. Oh, well. We didn't catch anything, but I did find baitfish in 11'. There's no time too early, guys. Go find 'em. I'll be out in the jon tomorrow. Good luck, fellas.

Some sexy jewelry for my new swimbait rod that should be done very soon. I hope so, at least. The wait is getting expensive. Actually, the bait monkey has just moved right into my house.

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
Anybody looking for a 10' Jon boat? Or know anybody? '07 Starcraft. I think I'm gonna make a move to go up to a 12', now that the boy is getting older. I'm gonna sell it with the Humminbird downscan GPS. Padded floors, and carpeted seats make it pretty d**n comfy, especially for 1, VERY stable, all welded. I have spent probably thousands of hours in this boat, and I've always been glad I had it, even when I did still have the big boat. Seriously A LOT of fish mojo in this thing! I've caught more big fish out of this boat, than any other vessel ever, and it's because it's so easy, always ready to go. Zero maintenance. Going to also include the 45lb Minn Kota Endura, but not the battery. $750 takes this bass assassinator home. Feel free to txt me with any questions or whatever. It's registered for 2016, too. (603)219-8487. Thanks, dudes! Whoever gets it, gets to take me out fishing wherever they want, we'll go for biggest fish, and if I get beat, I'll knock $50 off. That's an old pic. I got her tightened up a bit more since then.

Rage Tail Swimmer
Yeah, A-Jay. I like em on a Rage Blade, too. So slow on the fall, and lots of kick, while being able to walk through the wood and stuff.
