South Fl "cool Front"
When the peas are active and chasing bait I using a moving lure, top waters, hard jerkbaits, spinner baits, or twitchbait. Not active it's the crappie jig. I fish a place where the "staff" fishes for peas every morning. They fish daybreak with Walmart combos and roostertails, very successful at catching them. I've done well myself at daybreak once the weather heats up.

Quantum Smoke Sale, Thoughts?
Like 0119 & smalljaw67 I was talked to in a condescending manner a couple of times, didn't bode well with me. A customer rep should take care of each case exactly the same, without prejudice to the price of the product. Dealing with Quantum 2 times, none of which was on the phone, my service was taken care promptly and to my satisfaction. I like their spinning reels too, they may get the nod the next time around for me.

4 Carrier Vs 8 Carrier Braid
I have 20 some odd spinning reels spooled up with braid, 1 with PP slick and the rest 4 carriers. With the exception of 1 reel all are quiet. The noisy reel is quiet when no line comes thru the bail, under the bail it makes noise (the bail assembly and parts have recently been replaced), owning the identical reel using the identical braid it's quiet quiet, in my mind it's the reel. Doesn't irritate me enough to replace the reel, still performs nicely. The PP slick is nice line.

I agree.......winter and work up north, retirement and year round warm weather here in the south.

Bass Fishing Physics
Physics aside, all you really have to do is just reel the fish in.

What Can My Rod Handle
A rod should not break from a 30# fish, things do happen though. I have landed tarpon 50-70# on a mh rod (20# braid and 30# leader) quite a few times, bigger fish on a 25# class rod. Drag is important, a good amount of line, a strong back, stay cool and take your time. This is real important, sometimes you just gotta break a fish off, too big to land for the gear being used. Keep the rod perfectly straight with no bend on it, lock the drag and or grab the spool, should break off at the lure. The excessive bend with a locked drag is what can break a rod, as long as the fish is pulling out line, the rod should be fine.

Bass Fishing Physics
Saltwater fishing 101, a good reason why those rods have foregrips. Not uncommon to have a hand or 2 above the foregrip on the shaft for more leverage, quite helpful in pulling a fish away from a pylon for example. That same technique works when pulling a bass out of thick cover.

Peacocks will hit anything a bass does, I've caught them using a black marabou jig. Peacocks can be aggressive and will nail anything or quite passive, then they have to be "teased", that's when the jigs work well. A lure I've had success with is a Mirrolure twitchbait, Catch jr. for peas and bass, Catch 2000 for inshore species.

Dropshot With Swivel Above?
Line twist on spinning reel happens due to a few reasons, the lure or bait spins around, swivels help. The physics of the line being wrapped around the spool on retrieve causes twist. The b/c has it's spool at a right angle to the rod, the line feeds on straight with no twist. A caveat regarding twist and conventional reels, line twist happens when bait is turning over from the drift, very common. I could see this happening in freshwater as well, the spinshot hook seems like a good concept.

Vero Beach Fl
I've fished both inshore and the river with a guide several years ago, I believe Reinhardt was his name, owns a tackle shop up that way. The area around Ft Pierce is an excellent fishery, saw bait pods over a mile long and I/2 mile wide, caught 30-40# jacks and tarpon. Not far from Vero is the Sebastion inlet, just an outstanding place to fish. You can fish off the jetties, back by the river or the beach at both Sebastion and Ft Pierce inlet. Fishing a small boat in the river could be a lot fun.

Dropshot With Swivel Above?
I use swivels more often in freshwater than I do in salt. Using spinning gear and lures that can turn over my line twist isn't as bad. Where I do really prefer a swivel is when I have to cut out a wind knot, much easier for me to tie the leader back to a swivel than a line to leader connection if it's windy. I once got a tip from a saltwater tackle shop about using a smaller swivel for less line twist, I do think the guy was right. I use a #10 as as well for freshwater, for salt when I use them it's a #2 BB (45#), been good sizes for me.

Peacock Bass In Fort Lauderdale/boynton Beach Area?
You have caught peacocks @ lake Ida bridge, they are still there, also all the way back in the park by the canal there is platform, I've caught them there. I'd use a topwater lure because of the vegetation. They are pretty much any where in the El Rio canal, near bridges and culverts are good spots, plenty of foot access. I prefer fishing them on foot, I can walk the banks and sight cast. Quite often I have to tease them with multiple casts, crappie jigs and in line spinners work well for that. I know for an absolute fact they can be caught near where you stay, I've caught about 20 of them there. I've only caught them in 2 locations, there has to be other places in the connecting canals.

River Monsters
He doesn't fish for bass, the need for modern lures and small tackle isn't his thing. For what he fishes for cut or live bait is probably the best weapon. There aren't too many lures that pre date jigs, still widely used today and catch just about anything that swims, including bass.

Bass Fishing Physics
Amen to this. I not only read bass forums but other species forums as well, I do pick up a tid bit here and there. I rely on what I have learned on the water, nothing has taught me more than my experiences over the years. If I find the fish or the hot bite everything just nicely falls into place, if I don't I struggle like a lot of people do. I know from fishing the last 10 years my spots change constantly, not only day by day but hour by hour. The current changes, sometimes flows backwards against a sea wall (I change my tactics), how to fish certain wind conditions, water depth, etc, etc etc. You aren't going to learn this information on the web, you have to be there and learn on your own. 2 things I never confuse myself over, tying knots or the lure I'm going to use. I just know because I do this every single day.

2015 Reels
As one can see this item has been returned to sender after clearing customs March 4. This has happened to me well over 20 times, from all over the orient. On average I get about 2 shipments per month, some fishing items and other items too. I've had the same scenario happen from Europe. http://www.track-trace.com/post

Reel For Variety Of Techniques
A little more is good too for faster moving fish. Using a variety of different lure types on a single combo for me, not everything is retrieved with the same speed. Many of my retrieves are done with moving the bait with my arm then reeling up slack, other lures are reeled in at a faster pace. I adapt to me lure and technique.

Bass Fishing Physics
Finding them doesn't guarantee success, it does increase your odds. Rods, reels, lines, lures, etc are great conversation topics, but nohow is the best producer. Whatever the species I'm a sight (hearing too) caster first, I'm always looking to cast to a target

South Fl "cool Front"
I've been struggling with both bass and inshore fish the last week or so, I did catch 3 peacocks Thursday and Friday. After being skunked again in the ICW Saturday hit one of my local ponds, caught 5 bass on an xrap in about an hour, size wasn't bad.

Angler Snags Giant Paddlefish
I don't view snagging fish as angling, legal or not I would't do it. I never bought into this notion of trash vs gamefish. Some species of "trash", are excellent on the plate, not easy to locate and entice strike, can give an outstanding battle, or be cut up and used for bait. If a fish is useful or gives sport I can't call it trash. On the other there are gamefish that are not dinner favorites, don't fight all that well and not the hardest to catch given the fact 50 in day can be caught. Why are they gamefish, because a lot of money is spent on catching them, elevating their status from trash to game.

What's Your Money Saving Tip For Fishing?
I don't look to save money, but I see no reason to needlessly spend on items that won't catch me any more fish. If XYZ lure is productive for me I'll buy it over and over again. If I'm looking to save, I'll dig up worms and use a cane pole.

River Monsters
This kind of teaser, can be bought at about any coastal tackle shop. Feed the line thru the eye, put an egg weight on then tie your hook, 4/0 is good. Makes an inexpensive jig that will catch about anything. Very versatile, it can be casted, trolled or jigged, have caught many species with it. They come in a 3 pack for about 5 bucks.

Trouble With Improved Clinch Knot With Flurocarbon
I've used Vanish for kingfish, on occasion I did have to tie my knot a few times to get it right. Once tied correctly with just an ordinary clinch knot, both the knot and line held up just fine. I went back to mono leaders as I saw no advantage to FC leaders.
