Adding a Deck the same height as bench
ok, id like some opnions please. im adding a front deck to my 14' boat. on this boat there are channel brackets that the wood bench seat were attached to. i want to add a deck from that point to the front of the boat. can i just use some more channel along both sides to the Eye bolt hole and flathead bolt them to the side of the boat? then cut 5/8" ply for the deck it self? not wanting to lose all the space under it i also want to maybe put in a storage spot. can i use 3" PVC to support it underneath? waiting patiently for the masses to stear me in the right direction. thanks ahead of time. Tom

Update on my jon boat project :) (lots of pics)
well, after i read your post, i did a little research because i couldnt Visualize it. Now i can. basically this method is like putting a "CAST" around the wood. when you lay your strips, / on one side and\ on the other are they going across the sheet end to end?. did i see right? you used 7/16 ply?

Is a '71 Johnson 20hp worth $300
if you dont want it and its near me, I'll buy it. he-he. from what i know, 300 is pretty cheap, new 20's are running 2000.00 or better. i am looking for a 20 also, and wouldnt passs on that deal. get some pictures of it running, and with the cover off so you can see the Hoses and wires. i dont know where you live, but i did contact a guy in TN that is willing to trade my 9.9 plus cash for a 25hp.

Redecking a boat
well, i am using 1x3's on edge with 1x3's laid flat across the top, with the edgeds of those resting on the edge on each rib.. once i get it shimmed it should be pretty dang solid.(RIGHT?) i have a 1970 starcraft seafarer 14'. its kind of a Mod "V" 61" wide at top center. i am thinking of using 3\8 ply sealed with thompsons or something. then im going to add back in the front and rear bench seats, with added width for storage, and a rod locker along the side. am i crazy for this approach? it will be braced down the middle by 1x3. any thoughts?

Redecking a boat
i AM in the Middle of adding Floors to my "V"Bottom, never even thought of using PVC, do you have any info you could share or pics with me? i am doin this from scratch and could use some fresh ideas. thanks Tom

Floors
thanks for the responses. i have seen LBH's threads and got a little out of them for this. the boat is a v-hull Aluminum. with no stringers. are stringers just a wood frame running the length of the boat under the floor to attach to? i am doing this from scratch. so i wanted to do it without affecting the weight to much.

Floors
i know this should be easy but id like to discuss it before i move on. on my 14' starcraft, i am going to pull then add 3 bench seats out and add a Floor. the 3 Pedistals that could slide to either side of the boat. along with some properly placed storage. Heres my question. what should i use for the Floor itself (3/4" ply) and whats the best way to insure it wont bend.. what type of structure under it to keep it from bending when you walk on it and to support seats. any ideas would help. thanks TOM

Bottom Contour
i guess it depends on the Sonar/Finder. i have now a Wide 100 its basic, just shows me the way the bottom looks like, ups and downs or just Flat, not anything else. i had a LCX-16 CI, NOW that thing would outline a tree laying on its side, and all other debris. so, it depends on the quality and brand. to me.

Solar powered charger?
we used solar charger for hot Wire fences on the Ranch. 2 12v batts, one solar charger for 25 miles of Fence. it would keep a fence hot enough for 5 months. i cant tell you the draw of a fence charger, but if you have an AG store close. check out Fence chargers. might be worth it.

Boat Title Question
well heres the Deal. If you have purchased a boat with no Title, you must get the Last known registered owner to give it to you. this is a MESS. but in MO to get registered i have to have it, i could have kept my mouth shut i guess and did it with the wrong title but thats not me. the guy i got it from now has to contact the guy he got it from, and so on until the title is found. the state even though they have the name and address cannot give us that info, nor would they contact him for us. A MESS. if we cant get the title then after all this (plus the work i've allready done on the boat) it will be one of those boats you see sitting at a pond on someones farm. i hope this works out, and none of you go through it.

Boat Title Question
well i agree, its a big hassel. but please understand i am working off the price that i purchased the stuff for. with no regard to its "REAL" value. thats why i bought it. a little tlc and this thing would double or better my money. i paid 250.00 for the whole thing, then the Motor isnt worth in this case its real value of (150.250) its worth is relative to the price paid. i think we are going to work it out, we have to, if i gave it all back im out some cash for what i have already done to it. will keep all posted.

Boat Title Question
more info. it appears the vin# on my boat is registered to another person that has a few other boats as well. the vessel # on the title i have is the one from the guy i got it from, the vessel# on the boat hasnt been renewed since 1990. so, the we think the guy he got it from gave him the wrong Title. now we have to find the person that is on the Title and have them sign it over or whatever, in order to get the right Title to me. then the one i have has to go to whom ever has that boat. a big mess, but so far, its not a stolen boat or anything like that. DVM can look up a boat title by the Vin number, and tell you whos name it under now, the dang thing is, since i am not on the title (yet) i cant get any of this information, even though i've paid and have a bill of sale. none of that matters, its whos on the title.

Boat Title Question
Gambler, he offered it to me first, and anything else i wanted off the boat before he took it back!! so i dont feel that I am giving him the shaft. i just talked to the MO State Patrol and the DVM office in Jefferson City. DVM says i cant get it registered without the proper Title, and to do that, we need to find the Orignal title for the boat and who its registered to. State Patrol thinks there is something wrong, and want to do a vin search to see if it was stolen. if it is stolen, I GOT THE SHAFT NO MATTER WHAT!!

Boat Title Question
Here is the Bigger Problem. In Mo its my understanding i have to have a Title on the trailer, boat and Motor, the Bill of Sale will work for the Motor. The Title that this young Man gave me, He actually had to do a lost title search to get it. and its the one he got!! untill i brought it to his attention that it was all wrong , he never knew. the reason he never checked was it was registered with new MO tags and numbers till 05' when he got it., now i have to register it and its a problem. i have a gut feeling that he is a good Kid and has no idea about the boat. i dont know where he got it but i am going to call the DVM today and will post my Findings. as it stands now, i have stopped working on it, and we are going to exchange back the money for the boat. i am keeping the Motor and fish finder because they werent working when i got it but are now after i tinkered with them.

Boat Title Question
i bought this Landau 1447 2 months ago from a Kid (23). it was a good deal 300 for boat, 4hp merc, Trolling Motor, wide 100 FF AND TRAILER. the trolling motor ended up not working so i called the guy and he gave me 50.00 back. so ive got 250.00 in the deal. now i got the Title on the Trailer. and was waiting on the title for the Boat. he sent it and its not the title for the boat he sold me. he said it was the one he got with it. the year on the Title is 64' and i know its a 79' serial # wrong vessel # wrong its not for this boat. my plan was to use it, fix it up and sell it in hopes of turning a profit and getting a bigger better boat. with out the proper title i cant do that. what should i do? at this point i just asked for my Money back and for him to come get the Boat. can i file for a Title for this boat with the serial # from Landau? any thoughts?

Good deal on this boat?
You know, for the Money you have alotted to spend on a Rig, i would look at e-bay. i know you can stumble across some great deals on Jons already decked out for less than 1500.00 you have to be patient and wait them out but if you read the ads, look for no reserve auctions and also look to see if they NEED to sell, not to pick on folks at hard times but if they need to get rid of it for whatever reason, they'll do it Cheap. there is a G3 1544 on there now, with a 25 hp motor that isnt working well, its a 1999 boat and the bid is 200.00 for the Boat, trailer and motor. from what i know about the g3's thats a pretty good deal. stick a few buxks in the motor to fix it and wal-la!! heres the boat.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4569039818&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Transom on Old Jon
i have a 79 landaue 1448, its in pretty good shape, but there are things i would address to make it better. One is the Transom, the wood on this one isnt rotted or anything it just looks Ruff, or Red Neck, i dont mind red neck but they can still do it better. the wood is on the inside, i noticed in newer Jons the wood is on the outside. what things should i consider before tearing into it and replacing it. should the wood be on the outside? it looks to me (without takinf the wood off) the inside has a 3/8 or 3/16 alum plate across the transom, then covered by wood. thanks in advance Tom

Impeller Question
i've got a Merc 4 hp 1972 Motor. it didnt push any water out so i ordered an impeller. i removed the Lower unit and the top cap of the water pump. found the impeller to be in pieces. i am trying to remove the old impeller and am finding it difficult because its in a tight spot. i am doing this without a Manual (for now) but how does one take the shaft off to give me more room to remove the impeller. and yes i am to get a Manual. just thought i'd tap the knowldge base here. Thanks

Standing in Jon Boat
i have a Landau 1447, 14' long 47" wide at it widest. i have stood up pretty easy in it and felt comfortible. now with another person with me i dont know. just make sure you can swim, and know where your gear might go and do it in "TEST" mode, close to shore in daylight so you know.
