  1. this is what i did on advice from a trolling motor dude. take the CAP OFF the motor, there are several wires in there, take the red and Black wire apart and connect them directly to the battery, this will show the Motor is good. re0connect. take a Jumper wire to the Foot switch( the one you push to move) jump the two together, if the Motor runs the switch is good. now take the Power supply Cable (HOT) and touch each of the Connections on the Board that controls speed settings. each should run the motor at its respective speed. if not Board not working. if all that is Fine, then start testing contunity in wires, get a Volt meter set it to Ohms and be sure wires are all good. if thats all fine, take it on so they can do the same thing, or throw it in a stream bank you are having problems with falling in, and get a new one. 2. it sounds pretty simple to me, it got hot, and the smell you had was from the switch burning up inside (the speed control). and it shorting out all over. i would replace the board, and go on.
  3. is that 6 from the Battery? i think its an Old Motor Guide Foot controlled. real nice littel dude. Be nicer if i had it running. talked to a guy in Texas, seems i can get a Prop (3rd party) for it.
  4. i thnk i know the answer to this question but wish to get some opnions. i just got this little Jon boat, it has a Older Foot feed trolling motor. it seems the Wire from the Battery is from a Dryer cord (the Big), my question is this, whats the best size wire for that? also, being older, the prop on the Trolling motor could stand to be replaced. this i know nothing about.. with no markings on the motor what do i look for to get the right one. thanks in advance.
  5. i am buying a 14' Jon. will get it this weekend. its coming with a 5hp gas motor. what can i expect from it as far as speed and power, i know i wont break records, but i have no idea.
  6. i had looked into this. and YES you can use them for bass fishing. check out www.kayakfishingstuff.com if i had not found the Jon i did at the price i did, no doubt thats the way i was leaning. i really like the Malibu x factor and Cobra f-n-d
  7. yes, it has a trolling motor plate, most of what i read about them say so, plus look at the picture of it, you can see it above the basket.
  8. most of them will completly break down, and you can put them together without tools. i liked the Trout Unlimited Colorado Pontoon. but remember, look at SamsClub.com. they have that one for 340.00 everyone else is 389-500 for the same one. Good Luck
  9. well i just rolles into a deal, a 14' jon with trailer, trolling motor 5hp gas motor Fish Finder seat .... all for 300.00, cant pass that up. now i want to do what you did, would love to hear about your process in detail and what products you used. coloradobulldawg@yahoo.com Tom
  10. on the x-16 i have, we just ran the wires along with the steering cables.. and to the gps antenna we just took a piece of PVC pipe threaded one end to fit the antenna. then just stuck it in the cup holder. we could remove it as well, i didnt want it on all the time.
  11. thanks for your thoughts, yes most all of these boats have a plate for a trolling motor. i have been looking for a little Jon like you have, (nice job) but havent found one, my problem is i have a lcx16-ci fish finder i want to trade or sell to get a boat, but no luck so far. those pontoons are very safe, most are rated for class I III or III rapids. and me being alone most of the time it would be nice. thanks.
  12. yep, thats excatly what i am talking about. i really like them, but didnt know if anyone had experience with them bass fishing. guess a guy would just modify it to your needs.
  13. Keith, im in Columbia, i do a lot of fishing around here. i see those same boats too, but the weight and manuverability by myself seems it could be an issue. heck, i used to have one, and im telling you there not very nice to move around alone.
  14. Greetings, i live in Central Mo, i fish mostly by my self. i have looked at Kayaks, bellyboats(float tubes) and the bass buggy or plastic type boat. i really like the Colorado Pontoon or that style of boat. does anyone have experience with them? would they work for bass fishing? the Waterskeeter 'fish guide' is really nice. compared to a kayak easier to transport and cheaper. just looking for opnions. thanks in advance.
